1/7: The Takeout with Major Garrett

The latest reporting from Minneapolis after an ICE agent fatally shoots a woman is being covered in a special report. The U.S. seizure of two oil tankers linked to Venezuela is also making headlines. In this episode of "The Takeout with Major Garrett," we'll delve into the details of these stories and more. Major Garrett joins us to discuss the latest on the Minneapolis shooting and what it says about the state of immigration enforcement in America.

In our first segment, CBS News correspondent David Morgan reports live from Minneapolis, where an ICE agent fatally shot a woman during an arrest at her home. Morgan explains that the incident has sparked widespread outrage and calls for greater accountability within Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Next, we'll take a closer look at the U.S. seizure of two oil tankers linked to Venezuela. The operation, carried out by a joint task force between the U.S. Coast Guard and other agencies, aimed to disrupt Venezuelan President Nicolรกs Maduro's efforts to circumvent international sanctions.

Later in the show, Major Garrett joins us to discuss his reporting on the Minneapolis shooting and what it reveals about the complexities of immigration enforcement in America. He'll also share some of his thoughts on how this incident fits into the broader national conversation around border security and immigration policy.

Throughout our conversation with Major Garrett, we'll be exploring these stories and more, from the intersection of law enforcement and immigration to the diplomatic implications of Venezuela's efforts to circumvent international sanctions.

We'll also have a chance to hear from some of the people most affected by this crisis, including those directly impacted by the Minneapolis shooting and families of the individuals involved in the U.S. seizure of oil tankers linked to Venezuela.

.. can't believe what's happening with that ICE agent ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. I mean, a woman just trying to live her life gets shot and killed? It's just not right. We need to rethink our immigration system, it's all so... complicated ๐Ÿคฏ. And those oil tankers? Just another example of how powerful countries can manipulate the system to get what they want ๐Ÿ’ธ. But at what cost? Families torn apart, lives lost... it's just too much ๐Ÿ’”. We need to have a real conversation about this, not just talk around it ๐Ÿ‘ฅ.

man this is crazy whats going on with ICE i feel like they're above the law rn we need to be talking about reforming their policies & holding them accountable for these kinds of incidents it's not just about the woman who was shot, its about the countless others who've been affected by their actions ๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’ช

omg just saw that report about the woman who got shot by an ICE agent in minneapolis... it's so messed up how can we justify this kind of thing happening in our own country? ๐Ÿคฏ i feel like we're getting way too caught up in politics and not enough focus on human lives. anyone else think we need to re-evaluate how immigration enforcement is handled in the US? ๐Ÿ’”

OMG ๐Ÿคฏ what's going on with immigration enforcement in America?! ๐Ÿค” like, an ICE agent just fatally shoots a woman at her home? ๐Ÿ˜ฑ that's crazy! how can one person have so much power over someone's life? ๐Ÿ’€ and now they're saying it's sparking outrage and calls for greater accountability... but isn't that already happening? ๐Ÿ™„ didn't we see similar stories of police brutality and abuse of power with Black Lives Matter? ๐ŸŒŸ is this any different? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

I'm still trying to process what's happening with these two stories. I mean, a woman just getting shot by an ICE agent at her own home is just crazy ๐Ÿคฏ. It's like, can't we just have some basic human decency and respect for people's lives? And now the US government is seizing oil tankers linked to Venezuela... it feels like another layer of corruption and politics getting in the way of what should be simple solutions.

What really bothers me is that this woman was a mom or something, right? And her family is still trying to come to terms with what happened. It's not just about immigration policy, it's human lives. We need some real answers on why this happened and how we can prevent similar incidents in the future ๐Ÿ’”.

I'M SO FRUSTRATED WITH THIS RECENT MINNEAPOLIS SHOOTING!!! IT'S LIKE, AN ICE AGENT JUST WALKED IN AND STARTED SHOOTING AT A WOMAN IN HER OWN HOME! THAT'S NOT HOW WE'RE SUPPOSED TO HANDLE IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENT. IT SMELLS LIKE RACIAL PROFILING TO ME AND I DON'T THINK WE SHOULD BE ALLOWING THIS KIND OF THING TO HAPPEN ANYMORE. ๐Ÿคฌ๐Ÿ’”

just heard about that ice agent fataly shooting woman in minneapolis ๐Ÿ˜ฑ what's going on with ICE enforcement? ๐Ÿค” it's time for some serious reform and accountability, you know? ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ’ผ we need to make sure our immigration laws are fair and just for everyone, not just targeting certain groups ๐ŸŒŽ๐Ÿ‘ฅ. this is a wake-up call for us all to take a closer look at how we're treating people seeking refuge in our country โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’•. #ImmigrationReformNow #AccountabilityMatters #JusticeForAll

Wow ๐Ÿ˜ฎ, so shocking that an ICE agent would shoot someone in their own home like that! Interesting how it's sparking a lot of outrage and calls for accountability within the agency... think they need to really re-examine their policies on immigration enforcement ๐Ÿค”. And what's with Venezuela trying to find ways to circumvent international sanctions? Sounds like a pretty tricky situation...

I don't think we should be surprised that another ICE agent went rogue like that ๐Ÿค•. We're already living in a world where cops get away with pretty much anything, so why should immigration agents be held to a higher standard? The fact is, the system is broken and we need to start questioning why people are allowed to carry guns and make life-or-death decisions on their own ๐Ÿ’ธ.

I mean, think about it - ICE agents are basically private security guards in uniforms, right? ๐Ÿš” They're not supposed to be police officers, but they're treated like them. And when someone gets hurt, we just shrug it off and say "oh well, that's the risk of the job". It's like we expect people to sign up for a game where you might get shot at or have your house broken into ๐Ÿคฏ.

We need to start having some real conversations about what we want from our immigration system - do we really need these kinds of agents on the streets? And if not, then why are they still employed?

๐Ÿค” just saw that an ICE agent shot a woman in her home during a raid... so unfair ๐Ÿšซ how can we expect people to trust law enforcement when they're not even following their own rules? ๐Ÿ™„ it's like, what's the point of having laws if you're just gonna ignore them? ๐Ÿ˜’ and now there are calls for accountability... about time ๐Ÿ‘ everyone deserves justice and respect, regardless of immigration status ๐Ÿ’–
