1 year after deadly Northeast Philadelphia plane crash, inside 10-year-old Ramesses' road to recovery

A Young Survivor's Road to Recovery: Ramesses' Miraculous Journey One Year On

It's been a year since the devastating medical transport plane crash in Northeast Philadelphia that left nine-year-old Ramesses Vazquez-Viana as one of the youngest survivors. The incident claimed six lives and injured two dozen people, including Ramesses' father, Steven Dreuitt, who died in the car fire.

The tragedy also left an indelible mark on Ramesses, with more than 90% of his body burned beyond recognition. However, against all odds, he managed to climb out of the burning car and was airlifted to a burn center in Boston for treatment.

Ramesses' family has been nothing short of remarkable in their support and resilience. His mother, Jamie Vazquez-Viana, described her son's recovery as "nothing short of a miracle," adding that despite the extent of his burns, Ramesses can still hear and see, albeit with some vision loss.

The young boy's progress has been steady, with multiple surgeries, including partial amputations on both hands, to help him recover. His medical team praised his miraculous survival, noting that only his feet were spared from the burns.

In a remarkable display of strength and positivity, Ramesses spoke about his experience, saying, "I want them to know God is there." He also expressed gratitude for the support of his community, which has rallied around him in every way possible.

To celebrate Christmas last year, Smedley Elementary School threw a surprise pep rally, where CBS News correspondent David Begnaud presented Ramesses' mother with a brand-new car courtesy of David Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram in Glen Mills. The school also received a $50,000 check from Canva to support the family's ongoing needs.

Today, Ramesses is back in Boston for another surgery that will keep him hospitalized for about five weeks. Once he recovers, his family plans to return to Philadelphia and enroll him in Smedley Elementary School. Despite facing immense challenges, Ramesses has shown remarkable resilience and a determination to overcome his ordeal.

The story of Ramesses Vazquez-Viana serves as a poignant reminder of the power of hope, faith, and community in the face of tragedy. His miraculous journey is an inspiration to all who have followed his progress and will undoubtedly continue to touch hearts for years to come.

OMG, this kid's story is literally giving me all the feels ๐Ÿคฉ! I mean, can you even imagine being 9 and going through that kinda trauma? The fact that he's still got some vision left is just...wow ๐Ÿ™Œ. And his positivity is everything - "God is there" might be what helped him cope with all that pain ๐Ÿ˜Š.

The community has come together to support this family in the most amazing ways, it's like they're shining a light on the power of kindness and love โค๏ธ. I'm also loving how Smedley Elementary School stepped up to help - who throws a surprise pep rally for a 9-year-old in need? ๐Ÿคด๐Ÿป๐ŸŽ‰

Five weeks in the hospital is a long time, but Ramesses is already showing so much strength and resilience ๐Ÿ’ช. I hope he gets through his surgery smoothly and gets back to school soon - this kid deserves all the sunshine and happiness in the world โ˜€๏ธ.

I feel bad for the guy, I mean, 90% burns? That's crazy ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. But you know what's even crazier? The lack of safety measures on those planes ๐Ÿšซ. It's like, come on folks! If you're gonna fly around with people on board, make sure there are some basic safety protocols in place โš ๏ธ. I mean, no wonder his dad died in the car fire... it was all connected ๐Ÿ”ฅ.

And don't even get me started on the logistics of transporting a kid like Ramesses ๐Ÿคฏ. I'm not saying he's not a miracle survivor and all, but come on! Boston to Philly? That's like an hour and a half flight distance โฑ๏ธ. What if they had just stayed in Boston for longer? Maybe his recovery wouldn't have been so... eventful ๐Ÿค”.

Anyway, I guess the good thing is that Ramesses is still alive and kicking ๐Ÿ’ช. His mom's story is actually pretty inspiring, but we should also be talking about the systemic issues that led to this tragedy ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ. Maybe there's a way for us to prevent something like this from happening again in the future?

Wow ๐Ÿ˜ฎ This kid's story is insane! I mean, surviving a plane crash and car fire with like 90% burns... that's just crazy! ๐Ÿคฏ His family is so strong too, all the support they've been getting from their community is amazing ๐Ÿ’• And the school rallying around him with a new car? That's what we need more of in this world ๐Ÿ™Œ

can you believe this kid ramesses has been through so much trauma and yet he's still a bright light ๐ŸŒŸ? i mean, partial amputations on both hands and still he's got a smile on his face! ๐Ÿ™ it just goes to show that even when life tries to bring us down, we can always find a way to pick ourselves up and keep moving forward ๐Ÿ’ช. and to think that this little guy is already thinking about school again after everything he's been through? ๐Ÿคฏ it gives me chills! i'm definitely keeping an eye on his progress and sending all my positive vibes his way ๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿ‘

๐Ÿค” I'm still trying to understand how someone can get their hands like that ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ Ramesses' parents are so lucky he can even see and hear with all those burns ๐ŸŒŸ Their community is amazing too, giving them a new car ๐Ÿš— that's crazy! Why do they need a new car tho? Can't the school just pay for his education or something? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ What's going on in Ramesses' life right now? Is he scared of anything? ๐Ÿค•

๐ŸŒŸ I'm so inspired by Ramesses' story ๐Ÿ™. It's like he's got this superhuman strength that's taking him through the toughest times ๐Ÿ’ช. His family's support is incredible, and it's amazing how they're all working together to help him heal โค๏ธ. And I love how he's still got a positive outlook on life - who needs God when you've got community and hope, right? ๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿ’• The fact that Smedley Elementary School has been rallying around him is just beautiful ๐ŸŽ‰. It shows us all what it means to come together in times of need โค๏ธ. I'm sending all my positive vibes to Ramesses for his upcoming surgery and a speedy recovery ๐Ÿคž. He's definitely an inspiration to us all! ๐Ÿ’ซ
