A Detroit cigar baron’s mausoleum was stripped by thieves, but no one ever told the family - Detroit Metro Times

A Detroit cigar baron's mausoleum was stripped by thieves, but no one ever told the family.

The owner of San Telmo Cigar Company in Detroit, Oscar Rosenberger, had a beautiful mausoleum built at Woodmere Cemetery. Thieves broke into it in 2012 and stole valuable items such as copper doors and stained-glass windows. What's disturbing is that no one from the cemetery notified Burns, his only living relative.

When Burns discovered what happened online, she was devastated. She described the scene as "desecrated" and said she felt like someone had "disrespected her family." The mausoleum is now left exposed to the elements with blue tiles scattered on the floor.

Burns plans to hire a lawyer to file a lawsuit against the cemetery owners. She's frustrated because the mausoleum holds cultural significance, and the damage is irreplaceable.

🤦‍♀️ I'm literally shook by this news! Who steals from someone's family without even asking? It's like, what's the point of stealing all that copper and stained-glass stuff if you're not gonna put it to good use? 🤑 And to think no one told the only living relative about the break-in... that must've been super stressful for her. I can understand why she's upset, tbh. The mausoleum's like a piece of history or something, and now it's just lying there with blue tiles all over the floor 🛋️👎. It's not just about the stuff they stole either, it's about showing disrespect to Oscar Rosenberger's family and their legacy. Burn (pun intended) those cemetery owners! 💥

I just can't believe this 🤯... like, what's the point of even having a fancy mausoleum if no one's gonna look out for it? 🚮 I mean, copper doors and stained-glass windows, for Pete's sake! Those are irreplaceable pieces of art 🎨. And to think the family didn't even know about the break-in... that's just heartless 💔.

According to some stats I found (📊), in 2012 alone, there were over 14,000 burglaries at cemeteries nationwide 🚪. So, it's not like this was a one-time thing. It's a pretty sad state of affairs when we have so many valuables being stolen from these sacred places 💸.

And, btw, the mausoleum is now literally exposed to the elements... blue tiles scattered everywhere, just lying there 😷. I'm guessing that's gonna be a real pain to clean up 🧹. It's gonna cost Burns a pretty penny to fix this too 🤑. Guess she'll need some financial support from her lawyer 💼.

I'm shocked that no one thought it was weird that this guy's mausoleum got robbed and then everyone just went about their day 🤔👀. I mean, what's next? Thieves stealing priceless art from museums or something? It's like, hello! Someone gets burgled and you're supposed to be all sympathetic and stuff, but apparently not here...😒. And it's even more messed up that no one told the guy's family, especially since his only living relative is a woman who's probably got some emotional baggage already 💔. I don't get why she's planning on suing the cemetery owners when they're just following protocol...it's not like they were trying to make money off of it 🤑.

I mean, can you believe this? Like, someone steals from some old dude's mausoleum and then just forgets to tell his only living relative... 🤯 What's up with that? It's like they thought they could just get away with it or something. I'm all for people looking out for each other, but apparently not in this case.

I can imagine how frustrating it must be for Burns, though. Losing stuff of cultural significance is a big deal, you know? And now the mausoleum's just a mess... blue tiles everywhere 🤦‍♂️. It's like they wanted to make sure everyone knew that the mausoleum was "desecrated". I hope she gets some justice out of this, but it's gonna be tough to get that kind of thing fixed.

It's wild how we can all just assume someone else is taking care of things when we should probably be checking in on each other ourselves. Guess that's just the old-school way of thinking, though 😂

Ugh, can you believe this? 🤯 I'm all for people having a good time and stuff, but stealing from a dead person's family? That's just low. 😒 The fact that nobody even told Burns about what happened is just shady 🙅‍♂️. I mean, come on, it's not like they're hiding the mausoleum in a dark alley or something, it's right out in the open at the cemetery. And now it's just a mess, blue tiles everywhere... 😔 It's just so disrespectfull 💔. The family is already grieving the loss of Oscar Rosenberger, and then you take his stuff? Not cool 🚫.

🤯 I mean can you even imagine having your family's legacy torn apart like that? The fact that no one told Burns about what happened in 2012 is wild to me - it's not just about the stolen items, it's about disrespecting her as a person and a relative. And now the mausoleum is basically in shambles... I don't know if hiring a lawyer will help at this point though? The damage is done, right? 🤦‍♀️ Anyway, I do hope Burns gets some justice for her family's sake... it's not just about the money, it's about closure.

This guy's family mausoleum gets robbed and you'd think they'd be like "oh great, just what we needed, some more stress in our afterlife" 😂 but nope! The cemetery just sits there like a chill aunt who forgot to invite them to the funeral 🤣. I mean, can't you just put a sign on it like "Abandoned Mausoleum: Don't Touch or Cry About It"? And what's with the copper doors and stained glass windows? Were they trying to create a fancy new home for the ghosts of cigar lovers? Asking for a friend... 🤔

I just can't believe this 🤯... I mean, what kind of people do that? Steal from someone who's already grieving and has no one to turn to. It's not like they're taking something valuable or rare from a collector, it's family stuff! And for them to not even bother notifying the only living relative? That's just heartless 😔. I guess you could say the mausoleum was already in a state of disrepair, but still... it's just so sad. You'd think people would have some decency left in this world 🤷‍♀️. The fact that no one told Burns until she saw it online is just ridiculous. She's been dealing with this emotional blow for years, and now she has to go through the hassle of a lawsuit? It's just too much 💔.

I'm so gutted for this lady Burns 🤕. I mean, who does that? Steal from someone's family after they've passed away? It's like, basic human decency, you know? And to not even notify her? That's just cruel. The mausoleum is more than just a tomb, it's a piece of history and culture for her family. I'd be fuming if someone did that with my loved ones too 🤯. I think the cemetery owners should get in big trouble for this, they're basically accomplices to these thieves 🚫. And what really gets me is the 'desecrated' thing... like, it's a mausoleum, not some sacred temple! 😡

Oh man, this guy's mausoleum was like the ultimate party crasher 🤦‍♂️! Thieves just walk in, help themselves to some fancy copper doors and stained-glass windows... meanwhile, no one tells the poor guy who's still kicking (pun intended)! I mean, can you imagine if your grandma's tomb got broken into? You'd think everyone would be like "OMG, GRANDMA'S TOMB IS A MESS!" 🤯 But nope, just the usual online vigilante detective work to find out what happened 😂. The fact that it's culturally significant makes me wanna say "well done" to the thieves... I mean, who needs a mausoleum when you've got a sweet collection of stolen copper and stained-glass windows? 💎 Anyway, hope Burns gets some justice (and maybe a new set of tiles 🛠️)

Ugh, I'm so salty about this... I mean, come on! The family didn't even know what happened? That's not right 🤔. But at the same time, shouldn't they have done something to secure it in the first place? I mean, it's a mausoleum, not some random storage unit... and now it's just a mess 💔. Burns is totally gonna win that lawsuit, no doubt about it. The cemetery is gonna get roasted for this 🙄. But, like, what's the point of having laws if people can just break into ancient tombs willy-nilly? I guess that's just part of living in Detroit... 🤷‍♀️

The desecration of Oscar Rosenberger's mausoleum at Woodmere Cemetery is nothing short of appalling 🤯. The fact that no one from the cemetery notified Burns, his only living relative, about the theft, is a glaring example of institutional neglect and a lack of basic human empathy. It's unconscionable that the mausoleum, which holds significant cultural value, was stripped of its valuable items without any consideration for the family's feelings or well-being.

The exposure of the mausoleum to the elements, with blue tiles scattered on the floor, is a testament to the disregard shown by the cemetery owners. This incident raises questions about the accountability and responsibility of institutions towards their constituents. It's essential that Burns' lawsuit against the cemetery owners serves as a catalyst for change, highlighting the need for greater transparency and respect for the rights of individuals and families.

Ultimately, this tragic event highlights the importance of cultural preservation and the devastating consequences of neglecting our collective heritage 🌎💔

This whole situation is just wild 🤯... I mean, who breaks into a private person's mausoleum and steals valuable items without anyone knowing? It's like, what even is the point of that? And the fact that no one at the cemetery even bothered to inform Oscar's family is just crazy. I can see why Burns is so upset - it's not just about the monetary value of the stolen items, but the fact that her loved one's final resting place has been desecrated.

And now the mausoleum is just a mess 🤪... copper doors and stained-glass windows gone, leaving it exposed to the elements. It's like someone took all the respect and dignity out of a sacred space. I can understand why Burns wants to hire a lawyer - she needs to make sure that something like this never happens again.

OMG what's up with that?! 🤯 I mean I know it's bad when someone steals from you, but stealing from a family's final rest place? That's just wrong... 😱 A mausoleum is supposed to be a sacred space for people to pay their respects. It's not like it's some random old house or something.

And can you believe the cemetery owners didn't even have the decency to tell Oscar's family what happened? Like, how hurtful must that be for them? 😔 I would've thought they'd at least send a condolence message or something, but nope. They just did their own thing and left it all up to Burns.

I'm really glad she's planning on suing the cemetery owners - it's the least they can do after what they've done. And honestly, who knows how many other people have had similar experiences? It's time for some accountability! 💁‍♀️

🤦‍♀️ This is straight up theft, but you'd think they'd have some decency to notify the family. I mean, it's not like Oscar was asking for their permission to come in and take whatever they wanted... Copper doors and stained-glass windows? That's a piece of history right there. It's all about respect, you know? 😒
