A Detroit cigar baron's mausoleum was stripped by thieves, but no one ever told the family.
The owner of San Telmo Cigar Company in Detroit, Oscar Rosenberger, had a beautiful mausoleum built at Woodmere Cemetery. Thieves broke into it in 2012 and stole valuable items such as copper doors and stained-glass windows. What's disturbing is that no one from the cemetery notified Burns, his only living relative.
When Burns discovered what happened online, she was devastated. She described the scene as "desecrated" and said she felt like someone had "disrespected her family." The mausoleum is now left exposed to the elements with blue tiles scattered on the floor.
Burns plans to hire a lawyer to file a lawsuit against the cemetery owners. She's frustrated because the mausoleum holds cultural significance, and the damage is irreplaceable.
