Above-zero temperatures in the forecast for Chicago area after winter storm passes

Above-Zero Temps Loom Over Chicago After Devastating Winter Storm

A week of subzero temperatures and a blizzard that dumped several inches of snow on the city have finally come to an end, but residents are in for another surprise: above-zero temperatures. Starting Monday, Chicagoans can expect to see warmer air move into the area, with highs ranging from 8 degrees in the north to over 17 degrees in the south.

While it may seem like a welcome relief after last weekend's storm, officials are warning drivers to exercise caution on the roads. Temperatures will be stuck in the single digits and teens through Thursday, which means that even though snow is not forecasted to fall again, the conditions remain hazardous.

The past two days have been particularly challenging for travelers, with hundreds of flights grounded at O'Hare and Midway airports due to the storm, as well as a surge in car accidents on state highways. The Illinois Department of Transportation reports that most roads in the city are still covered in snow or ice, making it difficult to navigate.

For those struggling to stay warm, warming centers will be open starting Monday, offering safe spaces for residents to spend the day. Locations include community service centers across various neighborhoods, as well as libraries and police districts.

🤔 so warmer temps in chicago after a brutal winter storm? that sounds too good to be true... how can they know what's coming next? weather forecasts are always kinda hit or miss, right? and those warming centers for people struggling with the cold? that's super thoughtful of the city, but i wanna know more about them... like, how many spots are there, and which neighborhoods get priority? gotta check the gov website for deets before i start spreading the word

OMG I'm soooo done with this winter storm already 🤩 like, can we just go straight into spring already? I know some ppl might be like "finally warmer temps!" but like, at what cost tho? the roads r still super icy & slushy rn 🚗💦 and all those flights grounded at O'Hare? poor travelers 😓. On a more positive note tho, warming centers r set up for ppl who are strugglin' 2 stay warm so that's a huge relief 💕 can't wait 4 the sunshine & mild temps to finally arrive ☀️

🤔 so like people are all relieved that the super cold weather is finally coming to an end but then they're also worried about driving in the snow and ice because temps won't be back down till Thursday? 🚗😬 it's crazy how things can just switch from bad to even worse. i feel bad for ppl having to deal with car accidents on the highway... have u seen those vids of cars sliding all over the road? 😱 anyway, warming centers are a lifesaver, can't wait to get outta these frozen shoes 👠💁‍♀️

above zero temps are coming tho 💸🔥 better be ready for some warmer vibes 🌞

Yaaas, winter is finally over in Chicago 🙌! I'm so done with that subzero temps for ages! But omg, now above zero temp? That's a whole different story 😂. Can't wait to trade my scarf for some sunny skies (ish) this week. And can we talk about how treacherous the roads are gonna be? Like, I get it, safety first and all that 🚗💨, but can't we just have a nice warm day for once? 😒 On the bright side, those warming centers sound like a lifesaver for anyone struggling to stay cozy. Community service centers to libraries... gotta love the resourcefulness of Chicagoans 😊. Bring on the sunshine (or at least some tolerable temps)! ☀️

omg u guys i'm soooo done with this chicago winter storm 🤣 like seriously can't we just have a lil sunshine already!!! anywayz idk how ppl r gonna deal w/ the warmer temps tho... i mean its def better than freezing 24/7 but still gotta be careful on them roads 🚨💥 & wow hundreds of flights grounded lmao thats crazy! 🤯 and warming centers? that's awesome!! thx gov for lookin out 4 us 👍💕

🌡️ I feel so bad for all those people stuck in Chicago with subzero temps still going on... like I know a lot of us can relate to feeling cozy at home but it's just not the same when you're freezing outside 😬. And I'm guessing all that snow is gonna be a real pain to shovel and clean up - been there, done that! 🤣 Anyway, it's good to hear they got warming centers set up for those who need 'em most ❤️. Can't wait for some warmer air to move in... my toes are getting the itch 😄.

ugh, can we talk about the weather forecast on this site? it's always so vague 🤔. like, "above zero temps" doesn't even give you a range or anything! how am i supposed to know if i should bundle up for a brisk walk or just grab a hoodie? and what's with all these warming centers popping up everywhere? i mean, isn't that just a fancy way of saying "community service center"? can we get some more concrete info about the centers, like addresses and stuff?

and have you guys noticed how the site always puts the most relevant info at the bottom? "hundreds of flights grounded" is super important to know before heading out, but it's buried on page 3 or something. can't they just put it in a big ol' box with a warning sign that says "TRAFFIC ALERT"?
