'All things must come to an end': 5 beloved NYC businesses that closed in 2025

"Last Call for Beloved NYC Businesses: 5 Iconic Spots Shut Down in 2025"

New York City's ever-changing landscape has led to the closure of several beloved businesses, leaving locals and regulars reminiscing about the good old days. In 2025, five iconic institutions decided it was time to hang up their shutters for good.

First to go was Classic Pizza, a Staten Island staple that had been serving up some of the city's best pies for an impressive 36 years. After running the shop since his parents' passing, owner Brandon Rocchio announced that he was leaving the business due to health concerns. Despite its closure, fans of Classic Pizza still rave about its signature "pizza rustica," which has been taken over by another beloved institution, Pizza Mia.

Across town in the Bronx, a 50,000-square-foot furniture store called Corner Furniture is liquidating its inventory ahead of a permanent closure. The venerable shop, which has been voted the best furniture store in the Bronx for years, was forced to close its doors due to an inability to secure new funding. As it tries to sell off remaining pieces, patrons are enjoying drastic markdowns on everything from sofas to side tables.

Meanwhile, Brooklyn's beloved Marlow & Sons – a restaurant and general store that offered everything from oysters to sour cabbage pancakes – bid farewell in April after 21 years of serving up its unique brand of small-town charm. Owner Andrew Tarlow cited the unaffordable rent increases as the reason for his decision to close, thanking the community for supporting him over the years.

In Manhattan's Times Square, a legendary jazz and supper club called Swing 46 is also closing its doors after three decades of hosting some of the city's best big band music. Owner John Akhtar cited the challenges of maintaining a business in one of the world's most competitive markets as his reason for shutdown. Despite his closure, swing enthusiasts will still be able to dance the night away at other local venues.

Lastly, in Queens' Glendale neighborhood, Zum Stammtisch – a German restaurant and deli that has been serving up traditional dishes since 1972 – announced in February that its accompanying store would be closing, while the main restaurant would remain open. Patrons are lamenting the loss of their beloved spot for apple strudel, bratwurst, potato salad, and mini franks, but the business assured fans that "all things must come to an end."

I'm so bummed to hear about Classic Pizza closing down... like I remember going there with my friends from high school and we're still talking about their pizza rustica 😔. It's crazy how times change and businesses can't keep up. I got the news yesterday that they sold out of inventory at Corner Furniture, I was thinking of buying a new sofa for my place but now it looks like it'll cost an arm and a leg 🤑. Marlow & Sons always had this cozy vibe that made you feel like you're in a small town, not NYC... what's going on with the rent prices?! 🤔

😔 its sad to see these iconic spots closing down i mean classic pizza has been around for 36 years its crazy how it had to shut down due to health concerns and corner furniture is like a staple in the bronx they were voted the best furniture store for years but couldnt secure new funding 🤑

i wish marlow & sons wasnt closing though its been a favorite spot for so long and the food is just amazing 💔 as for swing 46 i love big band music but i guess times change and businesses need to adapt sadly zum Stammtisch has been around since 1972 thats like forever itll be sad to see them close 🤗

It's like, honestly, a bit sad that these iconic spots are shutting down. I mean, I'm not gonna sit here and tell you that it's all good or anything, but I do think we need to talk about how fast the business world moves in cities like NYC. These places were staples for generations, and it's weird that they couldn't adapt to the changing times.

Take Classic Pizza, for example - 36 years is a long time! You'd think someone would've been able to figure out a way to make it work. And then there's Zum Stammtisch, which has been serving up traditional German food since 1972... I mean, come on, that's like, a lifetime of service!

It's not just the places themselves, though - it's also what they represent. These spots aren't just businesses; they're part of the community's fabric. And when they close down, you can feel the loss.

Now, I'm not gonna sugarcoat it: sometimes you gotta pivot or move on to stay afloat in this crazy world. But can't we do better than just shut down and sell off what's left?

man its like new york city is losin its soul or somethin 2025 already feelin like a bummer year 🤕 can u blame anyone who's been around for a long time they're just tryna make ends meet but the rent keeps goin up and up and it's hard to keep up with that 💸

i mean classic pizza on staten island was a staple 36 years is crazy what happened to the place like we all know our local spots when they close its like losin a piece of ourselves 🙏

and Corner Furniture in the bronx has been voted best furniture store for years but now its just liquidatin everything feels like a shame cuz you cant put a price on history and all that 💔

man i'm so bummed about all these iconic spots closing down 💔🍕 pizza mia better bring its a game or else classic pizza fans will be stuck in the past 🤦‍♂️ corner furniture liquidation sale is like, 50k sq ft of sofas and side tables at fire prices tho 👀 maybe we can find some new life for those pieces elsewhere? 🤔 marlow & sons was more than just a restaurant it felt like a community hub, r.i.p to the brooklyn food scene 🌆 i'm not surprised swing 46 shut down though man that place was a total institution 💃 zum stammtisch is like, german heaven in glendale i mean who's gonna get that apple strudel fix now 😩

man i just saw this and it's heartbreaking 🤕, all these iconic spots shutting down its like losing a piece of nyc history, you know? corner furniture in the bronx was literally my go-to spot for furniture shopping, and marlow & sons in brooklyn had the most amazing oysters... Zum Stammtisch in queens is still sad news though, who's gonna get their apple strudel fix now? 🍰 anyway, can we talk about layout a bit? the way they wrote this article is kinda all over the place, some paragraphs are super long while others feel rushed. and what's up with the lack of consistent headings or subheadings? wouldn't it be nice to have some clear sections on the different neighborhoods or businesses that got shut down? just my two cents 💸

ugh its sad to see all these iconic spots shut down 🤕 i mean we're lovin it on one hand but our city is gettin like a ghost town in the other 🌃 its not just about economic struggles, what about preserving history & culture? these places were landmarks for generations and now theyre just memories 💭 marlow & sons was more than just a restaurant, it had character 🎨 corner furniture should be preserved or repurposed instead of being liquidated 🤷‍♀️ and zum Stammtisch has been around since 1972! thats over 50 yrs of tradition 👍 we need to find ways to support these small businesses & keep our city's soul alive 💖

Man, I'm so sad about all these iconic spots shutting down 🤕. You know, places like Classic Pizza and Marlow & Sons were more than just businesses - they were part of the fabric of our community 👗. It's crazy that we've lost Corner Furniture too, a staple for furniture shopping in the Bronx 🛋️. I'm sure it was tough for owners to make those decisions, but at least their stories are still being told.

And Zum Stammtisch? Forget about it! Who doesn't love apple strudel and bratwurst? 🤤 Those are memories we'll hold onto for a while. It's bittersweet seeing these beloved spots fade away, but I'm sure we'll find new favorites to replace them soon 💕.

It's all part of change, though - NYC is always evolving 🌆. We just gotta appreciate the history and nostalgia behind each spot, and move forward with love ❤️. Those classic spots might be gone, but their spirit lives on in our hearts 💫.

Wow 😊, it's always sad when these iconic spots close down... like, you never forget those places 🤯. I mean, who can resist a good slice from Classic Pizza or a night of swing music at Swing 46? 🕺 It's crazy how fast time flies, and before you know it, businesses that have been around for decades are gone 💔. Corner Furniture was always the best place to find deals on furniture, and Zum Stammtisch had the best bratwurst in Queens... what a loss! 😢

I dont no what's wrong with these places 🤔 They're like a part of NYC history or somethin. I had pizza from Classic Pizza once and it was soooo good 🍕 I mean, who cant miss a spot thats been servin food for 36 years? Corner Furniture is like my grandma's old living room - I loved browsin through all the furniture and decorations there 😂 And Marlow & Sons sounds like the coziest place ever! I had heard of that restaurant from friends but never got a chance to visit 🤔 What's wrong with NYC thats makin all these places close down? Didnt they make enough money or somethin? 🤑
