BSO sergeant arrested on domestic violence charges in Pompano Beach, authorities say - WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports | Fort Lauderdale

A Broward Sheriff's Office sergeant has been taken into custody on multiple charges of domestic violence, following an alleged violent confrontation with a woman in Pompano Beach. The incident occurred at around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, when deputies from the BSO Special Victims Unit were called to the scene after a reported disturbance.

According to investigators, a verbal argument escalated into a physical altercation between Sgt. Scott Nida, 54, and the victim, resulting in the woman sustaining facial and neck injuries. The victim claimed that Nida grabbed her arm and face, restricting her movement and causing her significant distress.

The victim stated that she was pushed to the ground and dragged across the lawn before managing to break free and flee towards her vehicle. However, Nida allegedly followed her, forcing her into the passenger seat of his car until she was able to convince him to release her.

Broward Sheriff Dr. Gregory Tony has expressed disapproval for Sgt. Nida's actions, stating that "domestic violence is unacceptable, especially from someone who is sworn to uphold the law." The sheriff emphasized that the accused officer will be held to the same standards as any member of the public.

Sgt. Nida was arrested and booked into the Broward County Main Jail on charges of false imprisonment, domestic battery by strangulation, and touch or strike battery. He has been placed on administrative investigative leave without pay and remains behind bars pending a court appearance.

The incident serves as a reminder of the severity of domestic violence, with authorities urging anyone experiencing similar situations to contact local support services, including BSO Victim Services at 954-321-4200, Women in Distress at 954-761-1133, or the Florida Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-500-1119.

Ugh, this is so sad ๐Ÿค•... Sgt Nida's actions are disgusting and completely unacceptable, especially being a law enforcement officer. I mean, who does that to someone they're supposed to protect? It's like he crossed a line from being a cop to being a perpetrator. And the fact that he was able to follow her into her car is just chilling... I hope the victim is okay and that she gets the support she needs.

It's always shocking when you see something like this in the news, especially from someone who's supposed to be enforcing justice. It makes you question everything and wonder how someone can do such a thing without losing their job or facing more serious consequences. The sheriff did the right thing by disapproving of Sgt Nida's actions, though... domestic violence is never okay, period.

Wow ๐Ÿคฏ This is so sad! I cant believe someone who is supposed to protect and serve is capable of doing something like this ๐Ÿš”๐Ÿ’”. It's just a reminder that domestic violence can happen anywhere, even in positions of power. Interesting ๐Ÿ‘€ how the sheriff is making an example out of him by putting him on admin leave without pay ๐Ÿ’ธ.

Ugh, this is so messed up ๐Ÿค•. Can't believe a cop would do that to someone. It's like they think they're above the law or something ๐Ÿ˜’. I mean, if you're gonna hurt your partner, it doesn't matter if you're on duty or not. That's just sickening ๐Ÿ’”. And what really gets me is that the victim was dragged across the lawn and forced into his car ๐Ÿš—. Like, are they kidding me?! The sheriff is right to be disapproving and all, but can we also talk about how this guy should've been held accountable way sooner? I feel so bad for the victim ๐Ÿ‘ง๐Ÿ˜”.

This is like a real-life episode of 'Cops Gone Wild' ๐Ÿ˜‚โ€โ™‚๏ธ! I mean, who knew that someone who's supposed to protect and serve was going to end up getting caught up in their own domestic drama? ๐Ÿคฃโ€โ™‚๏ธ The more I read this, the more I'm thinking that maybe Sgt. Nida should've taken a self-defense class... on how not to defend himself against his partner ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ˜ณ. But for real, it's super concerning that someone in power would resort to such violent behavior. Maybe we should all take a page out of Dr. Tony's book and remember that domestic violence is never okay, even if you are a badge-wearing law enforcement officer ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’•.

**๐Ÿ˜ฑ this is just heartbreaking** I'm really glad that the authorities took immediate action and arrested Sgt. Nida - domestic violence is never acceptable and it's especially horrific when it happens to someone in a position of power like an officer. It's disheartening to hear that it escalated into physical altercations but it's great that the victim managed to escape.

It's also a good reminder for law enforcement agencies to have zero-tolerance policies for domestic violence within their ranks - we can't afford to allow one bad apple to tarnish the reputation of an entire department. I'm glad Sheriff Tony is taking this seriously and holding Sgt. Nida accountable.

The fact that there are support services available for victims of domestic violence in Broward County should be a huge relief - it's essential for people to know they have help and resources available to them. We need more awareness about the severity of domestic violence and the importance of supporting those affected by it. ๐Ÿ’”

๐Ÿค• just saw this news and I'm still trying to process it... domestic violence by someone who's supposed to protect & serve? it's just not right. i think we need to hold our law enforcement accountable for their actions, especially when it comes to something as serious as domestic violence. 54 years old, a sergeant, and he's still using physical force on someone? that's just not acceptable behavior. the sheriff is taking steps in the right direction by holding him to the same standards as anyone else, but we need more systemic changes to prevent this kind of thing from happening in the future. ๐Ÿš”๐Ÿ’ฏ

Ugh, this is just getting old... ๐Ÿค• another high-ranking law enforcement officer caught in a domestic violence scandal. I mean, how many times have we seen this play out? It's not like it's some sort of isolated incident or anything. Anyway, what really gets me is that Sgt. Nida was supposed to be "upholding the law" and yet he ended up committing one of its most egregious offenses. And now he's just sitting in jail with no pay, while the victim's life has probably been turned upside down. Can't we just have some accountability around here? It feels like all we're seeing is a revolving door of bad behavior. ๐Ÿšช

what a joke ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ that he's sworn to uphold the law and yet can't even treat his own wife right... like, who tries to drag someone into their car? ๐Ÿ˜‚ and what's with the fact that he was doing it in public... you'd think you'd have some level of respect for your fellow human being, especially when you're supposed to be a respected authority figure.

I donโ€™t usually comment but itโ€™s crazy how this is happening to someone who is supposed to protect and serve... a domestic violence incident by an officer is super disturbing ๐Ÿคฏ. I think we need more support systems for victims, not just law enforcement, and also stricter accountability measures for officers like Sgt Nida ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ. He thought he was above the law, but now his career is over and heโ€™s facing some serious charges ๐Ÿš”. The sheriff said it all, domestic violence is unacceptable no matter who you are, especially not someone who is supposed to uphold justice ๐Ÿ’ฏ.

This is super sad ๐Ÿค• and really disturbing ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. I mean, someone who's supposed to protect people can actually hurt them? It just shows that we still have a long way to go in fighting domestic violence ๐Ÿ’”. The fact that Sgt. Nida was able to get away with this for so long is just appalling ๐Ÿ™„. We need more support systems in place for victims and accountability for perpetrators, no matter who they are #JusticeForVictims #EndDomesticViolence #AccountabilityMatters
