CIA chief visits Maduro successor as Machado vows to become Venezuela's president

US Intelligence Chief Visits Maduro's Successor as Opposition Sees Hope Crushed

In a move seen as a devastating blow to Venezuela's opposition, the CIA chief flew in to meet María Corina Machado, the Nobel laureate who handed over her peace prize medal to Donald Trump. Despite this gesture, experts say Trump has effectively neutralized the opposition movement, sidelining Machado and other leaders.

Machado had vowed to become the country's first female president but now faces a long shot at power. The conservative politician predicted freedom was coming to Venezuela after years of economic turmoil under Maduro. However, her opposition movement has been marginalized since Trump's pre-dawn assault on Caracas momentarily ignited hopes of democratic change.

In contrast, Vice-President Delcy Rodríguez, who is governing as acting president with support from other key allies, appears to have won Trump's backing. The US delegation described their meeting in Washington, citing improved ties between the two nations, while criticizing Machado for trying to "shake things up."

The visit has been widely viewed as a humiliation for Machado, and her move was seen as an attempt to win back Trump's favor after being discarded by him. Eva Golinger, a US lawyer who advised Maduro's predecessor Hugo Chávez, said Trump saw Machado as weak due to handing over her Nobel prize medal.

Trump officials have openly discussed their decision to work with Maduro's allies, many of whom face serious human rights charges. The move is seen as a major betrayal by former Turkish diplomat Imdat Oner, who believes the opposition had "bet fully on the Trump administration" but were disappointed when it didn't deliver.

With Machado effectively out of the game for now, analysts believe Rodríguez will maintain power with little opposition from within her own ranks. The arrival of the CIA director in Caracas has also been seen as a humiliating moment for Rodríguez and her administration.

come on usa you cant be serious machado was all about change in venezuela now shes done what happens to the rest of the opposition lol trump is just playing games with Maduro's allies meanwhile venezuelans are still sufferin 🤦‍♂️😒 machado might wanna rethink her strategy or just retire already 👎

I'm getting really worried about this Venezuela situation 🤕. I mean, Trump's just making things worse by backing Maduro's crew. It's like they're playing with fire here. These people are already struggling so much with the economy... who knows what's gonna happen next? The fact that Machado had to hand over her Nobel Prize medal to get attention from Trump is just sad 🙅‍♂️. And now she's out of the game? It's like their hopes and dreams were crushed 💔. I don't think this is about democracy or freedom at all... it feels like some kinda game where they're pawns being moved around by these powerful players 🤯.

🤔 i just saw this news about María Corina Machado and i'm like, what happened to the hope she had for Venezuela's democracy? it seems like trump is just playing the opposition like a fiddle 🎸 and machado gets punished for trying to shake things up 🔄 meanwhile delcy rodriguez gets the support of the us delegation, which is pretty shady considering trump has been all over Maduro's back lately 🤷‍♂️ i mean, what do you think happened behind closed doors in that meeting? did they just pretend to be friends or is there more to it than meets the eye? 😏

man, this US visit to Maduro's successor is like a punch to the gut for Venezuela's opposition 🤕🇻🇪 they were holding on to hope that Trump would come through for them but now it seems like he just crushed their dreams 😔 machado was always seen as the voice of reason in the opposition movement, and to see her marginalized by trump's team is devastating 💔 what's even more worrying is that delcy rodríguez is now getting all the support from the US... it looks like the opposition has been left with no choice but to accept a leadership structure they never wanted 🤦‍♂️

I'm really worried about Venezuela right now 🤕. It feels like all hope is being crushed for the people living there. María Corina Machado's move to become president was a big deal, but it seems like Trump just shot it down. I mean, what happened to Trump handing back her Nobel prize medal? That whole gesture seemed so genuine at first, but now it just feels like he was using her all along. It's sad because I think Machado really did want to make a difference for the Venezuelan people.

And on top of that, this visit from the CIA chief is just humiliating for Delcy Rodríguez and her team 🤦‍♀️. I mean, who needs that kind of pressure? It feels like Trump is just making it impossible for anyone in Venezuela to speak out against him. The opposition was always going to be tough, but when you add this kind of foreign interference... ugh. It's a tough situation all around.

I just can't even right now this is so sad Machado was really reaching out to bring change to Venezuela but I guess Trump's visit to Maduro's successor was like a huge punch in the gut for her 🤕🇻🇪 I mean what's up with Trump's team being all about those human rights charges though? it just doesn't add up... Machado was trying so hard to be peaceful and now she's just out of the running 🙅‍♀️ on the other hand Rodríguez is still good to go but I don't know how long that'll last 😕

😐 I don't think the US government's decision to back Maduro's allies is going to change much for Venezuela, at least not anytime soon. It just seems like they're trying to prop up their friend without really thinking about the consequences. I mean, Machado was a key player in the opposition movement and now she's basically out of the picture. That's gotta be super discouraging for her and her supporters.

It also makes me wonder if Trump is actually interested in helping Venezuela or if he's just trying to make some political points. The guy has a history of being all over the place on these kinds of issues. And what's with this whole thing about Machado handing over her Nobel prize medal? That was a huge mistake, if you ask me.

I think we're going to see more of the same in Venezuela - politics as usual, but without any real change or progress for the people. It's just so sad. 😔

OMG u guys!!! 🤯 So like I was watching this news & I cant even believe wut happened 2 María Corina Machado 🙈 She was all up 4 b Venezuela's first female president but now shes basically outta the running lol 😂. Its like Trump saw her as weak cuz she handed over her Nobel prize medal 👑🤷‍♀️ & now shes just a footnote in history 📚. Meanwhile Delcy Rodríguez is over here like "hey, I got ur back, Trump" 💁‍♀️ & shes still actin as president lol 😂. I think its really sad cuz Machado was tryna bring about change 2 Venezuela but I guess Trump decided to play the villain instead 👊

man this is so sad 💔 i feel bad for machado she was really counting on trump's support to bring change to venezuela but it looks like he just crushed all hope now 🤕 what a waste of potential for the country and its people 🌎 sadly i think Rodríguez is gonna be back in power now and that's not good news either 😔

I'm literally torn about this whole thing 🤯. On one hand, I think Machado's actions were super bold and maybe even necessary to shake things up in Venezuela. I mean, if she handed over that Nobel prize medal, it showed she was willing to take risks. But at the same time, can you blame Trump for not wanting to work with someone who basically betrayed her own values? It's all so messy 🤷‍♀️. And now Machado's hopes of becoming president seem pretty crushed 💔. I don't know, maybe Rodríguez will do a better job or something? But what if she doesn't? What if Venezuela just gets stuck in this cycle of corruption and authoritarianism? Ugh, I'm so confused 😩. Can't we all just get along? 🤗

I'm really concerned about the direction Venezuela is heading... it's like they're stuck between a rock and a hard place, right? 😔 They have these powerful allies like the US, but at what cost? It feels like they're losing their autonomy and freedoms in the process.

And Machado, poor thing, she was just trying to bring some positive change to the country, but I guess her efforts were crushed. 🤕 It's a shame because there are still so many Venezuelans who want democracy and human rights. But now it seems like they're not even getting a fair shot.

I think this is a perfect example of how politics can be like a big game, where people make deals and sacrifices for power... but what about the cost to their soul? 🤯 Is it really worth it? I don't know... all I know is that we should be paying attention to this situation and wondering if there's another way forward. 🤔

so like I was reading this news about Venezuela and it's all super confusing 🤯, like what's going on with Maduro and Trump and Machado? I mean I thought Trump was just gonna make things worse for everyone, but now he's basically working with Maduro's allies? that doesn't seem right to me 😕. and I don't get why Machado is being humiliated like this, she seemed pretty strong in the news article 📰. and what about all these human rights charges that people are talking about? shouldn't Trump be doing something about that? 🤔 it's just so much going on and I'm really lost 😅

I MEAN COME ON, THIS IS LIKE, A TOTAL LETDOWN FOR VENEZUELA'S OPPOSITION MOVEMENT!!! 🤯 They were like, "WE GOT THIS, WE'RE GONNA TAKE DOWN MADURO" AND THEN TRUMP JUST SMASHED THEIR HOPES WITH ONE HAND TIED BEHIND THEIR BACKS! 🤕 María Corina Machado's whole thing was about bringin' some FREEDOM to the country and now she's just, like, OUT OF THE GAME FOR GOOD. 😔 I feel bad for her, she seems like a strong woman and all...
