Coldest temps of the season may be on tap this weekend

Chicago Braces for Frigid Conditions Ahead

Temperatures are expected to plummet this weekend, with the possibility of hitting 10 degrees below zero by Friday or Saturday. According to National Weather Service meteorologist Rafal Ogorek, a period of cold air is forecasted to sweep through the area, bringing wind chills as low as minus-20 to minus-30 degrees.

This bout of frigid temperatures comes on the heels of several subzero days that have already occurred this winter. While the exact temperature drop is still uncertain, Ogorek notes that mid-January and early February are typically the coldest months of the year.

"It's been kind of a seesaw this winter," Ogorek said, referencing the area's mix of mild and extremely cold temperatures. "But we're looking at some significant arctic air moving in over the weekend."

Light snow is expected to fall on Tuesday night, with another quick hit possible on Wednesday evening. However, it's not just temperature records that will be broken – wind chills are forecasted to make this winter even colder than usual.

As Chicagoans continue to bundle up, residents like Bears fans and protesters have braved the frigid temperatures. The city has already seen its fair share of subzero days, with only two instances this winter where temperatures dropped below zero.

Ugh my kid's snow boots are literally frozen solid πŸ˜‚πŸ‘  I feel so bad for them having to walk around in that -20 wind chill it's crazy how quickly the temp drops 🀯 and they're not even old enough to really understand what's going on ❄️. And can we talk about how ridiculous the forecast is? Like, are we really expecting wind chills that low? πŸ™…β€β™€οΈ My poor little one just wants to play outside with her friends, not freeze her toes off 😭.

Brrr πŸ₯Ά... feels like it's gonna be a long weekend in Chicago. Been noticing how some ppl are all about braving the cold and I'm over here trying to stay warm just thinking about stepping outside πŸ˜‚. Not sure if I'd wanna be out protesting or cheering on the Bears in subzero temps, that sounds like torture ❄️! Guess it's good they're getting some light snow on Tuesday night, at least that'll make things a bit more interesting 🌨️. Hope everyone stays safe and warm this weekend πŸ’•.

Omg, it's gonna be a super cold weekend in Chi! πŸ₯Ά I'm all about layering up like a pro - thermal tops, leggings, and a warm coat for sure! And don't even get me started on gloves and hats... gotta keep those extremities toasty πŸ”₯πŸ‘ But seriously, have you ever tried using hand warmers? Game. Changer. πŸ’ͺ Just stick 'em in your gloves or pockets and you're good to go! Stay warm, Chicago! ❀️

Brrr... sounds like a real blast from the past πŸ₯Ά. I mean, who doesn't love freezing their butt off on the side of the road protesting something? And Bears fans braving the cold, huh? I'm sure it's not as bad as being stuck in traffic on the Dan Ryan Expressway during rush hour πŸ˜’. But hey, at least we're getting some record-breaking wind chills out of it. I mean, minus 20 to minus 30 degrees is just what we needed to shake off this whole "winter" thing πŸ’¨. Can't wait for the next batch of subzero days πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ.

Brrr! Like, can you even imagine having to go outside when it's -20Β°C? πŸ˜‚ I'm all about being productive and efficient, but like, what's the point if you're gonna freeze your buns off? 🀣 On a more serious note, I'm worried about those Chicagoans, they must be like, super prepared for this kind of weather. I mean, have you seen those -30Β°C wind chills? 😱 That's just crazy talk! As someone who's always on the go, I need to stay warm and cozy while I'm working or running errands. Like, anyone got any tips on how to stay toasty in the cold without having to sacrifice productivity? πŸ’‘

ugh i dont get why they cant just turn on the heating or something πŸ˜©πŸ’‘ like what even is arctic air and how does it affect the weather anyway? my old phone can handle -20 degrees no problem πŸ“±πŸ”₯ anyway, chicagoans are so tough i mean its been -10 outside and ppl still go for a run lol πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ˜‚

I'm low-key excited for a good old-fashioned winter in Chi-Town! I mean, don't get me wrong, it's not exactly what you'd call "fun" to freeze your tail off, but there's something about the city all bundled up that just feels... cozy? πŸ”β˜•οΈ Like, have you seen those adorable little cafes serving hot cocoa and waffles on a cold Saturday morning? It's like the whole city is one big, giant warm hug. Plus, it's always cool to see people come together (literally!) when the temps drop. Bears fans braving the cold for a game, protesters standing strong in their coats... it's like the whole city is saying, "Bring it on, winter!" β„οΈπŸ‘

Ugh, can you imagine having to deal with -20Β°C wind chill? 😷 Like, isn't it bad enough without the added bonus of freezing your face off?! I swear, layout-wise, a good font for extreme cold weather news would be something bold and frosty... like Arial Black! But for real though, let's just hope everyone stays warm and toasty this weekend πŸ’‘

Ugh, cold weather is no joke! I'm not gonna lie, 10 degrees below zero sounds freezing ❄️. I mean, we've had some pretty harsh winters here before, but this seems like it's gonna be a doozy. I hope people are taking care of themselves and staying warm... my heating bill is already gonna sky-rocket in February lol. Can't say I'm thrilled about the possibility of breaking records for wind chill either - that just sounds miserable πŸ˜“. Guess we'll just have to bundle up, drink plenty of hot cocoa, and hope this passes quickly β˜•οΈ

Ugh, looks like Chi-Town is in for a real freezer burn πŸ₯Άβ„️ This cold snap sounds like it's gonna be a doozy! 10 degrees below zero? Minus 20 to minus 30 wind chills? No thanks πŸ˜‚ I mean, I guess some people are tough and all, but 6 inches of snow on top of that? That's just a recipe for disaster β›ˆοΈ. And what's up with the weather service not being more prepared to warn us about this stuff? It's like they're saying "Hey, we warned you" πŸ™„ anyway, I guess folks around here are bracing for it... good luck, Chi-Town! 😬

Brrr, I'm so not a fan of super cold temps πŸ’€πŸ₯Ά. Like, I know some ppl enjoy it or whatever, but not me. I need my warmth and coziness when it's that chilly outside πŸ˜‚. And 10 degrees below zero? No thank you ❄️! That sounds like something out of a horror movie πŸŽƒ. I'm just gonna be over here all snug in my house with the heater on, sipping hot cocoa β˜•οΈ and enjoying the warmth 😊.

omg 10 degs below zero?? thats crazy! i mean im not a fan of cold weather at all but chicago is built for this kinda thing πŸ˜‚. i bet the bears fans are lovin it tho, can you imagine playin a game in -30 degs? 🀣 and dont even get me started on people protesting in that kinda weather lol. seriously though, its crazy how the weather can just change like that. is anyone else ready for some hot chocolate to warm up the city?β˜•οΈ

I think people are overreacting a bit about the cold temps coming up πŸ€”. I mean, 10 degrees below zero? That's not that bad. I've been to Chicago in Feb and it was way colder than that! And let's be real, Bears fans love complaining when their team loses, even if it's not even related to the weather πŸ˜‚. On a serious note, though, I think we should focus on supporting our residents who are struggling with the cold, like the homeless guys who have been braving the streets all winter. We shouldn't be too hard on them. And let's give credit where credit is due – the city is still recovering from that protest last year, so a little cold isn't gonna hurt anyone πŸ€—.

OMG, can you believe it's gonna be that cold in Chi-town? 😱🌨️ I'm all about layering up for this arctic blast - thermal underwear, anyone? πŸ˜‚ I hope the snowfall is just a sprinkle and not a full-on blizzard. Minus 20 to minus 30 degrees? Brrr! ❄️ That's even colder than my ex's heart πŸ’”. Seriously though, mid-January and early February are usually the chilliest months, so let's get ready for winter's icy grip πŸ‘Š. At least the Bears fans are tough - they're used to freezing their butts off at Soldier Field 🏈!

ugh πŸ€• just when you think it's gonna be a decent winter we gotta go back to that cold stuff again ❄️ chicago is like the ultimate test subject for hypothermia anyone got a warm coat i'm freezing over here lol πŸ˜‚

I'm telling ya, it's not just the cold weather we gotta worry about πŸ€”... think about all those folks in the utility companies and snow removal services, they're gonna be raking it in, making bank off our misery ❄️! And don't even get me started on the wind chill thing, that sounds like some sorta experiment to me πŸ˜’. I mean, what's really going on with this 'arctic air' anyway? Is it just a natural occurrence or is there more to it? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ It seems like they're always trying to break records for something, whether it's temperature or wind chill... it's like they want us to focus on the wrong things 😏.

Brrr πŸ˜“... 10 degrees below zero? That's crazy! Chicago's already been having a weird winter, like a seesaw that just won't stop 🀯. I'm no expert, but even I know it's gonna be a tough few days ahead ❄️. Wind chills are supposed to be way low too - minus 20 to minus 30? That's harsh! 😨 My neighbors are always talking about how cold it gets in the winter, but this is on another level 😲. Light snow might make things a little better, but I'm still not looking forward to braving the streets all bundled up 🀴. Anyone got any tips for staying warm without freezing? πŸ’‘

Brrr, can you believe it's gonna be that cold?! I feel for all the bears fans out there who are gonna freeze their seats while watching the game at Soldier Field πŸˆβ˜ƒοΈ. And poor protesters who were already showing up to make their voices heard, now they gotta brave the wind chill too... β„οΈπŸ˜·. As a Chicagoan myself, I know how hard it can be to deal with these temperature swings - one day it's mild, next day it's like arctic warfare πŸ˜…πŸŒ«οΈ. I guess mid-January and Feb is when winter decides to really get nasty, huh? Can't wait for the light snow on Tuesday night... or at least I think that's what they're saying πŸŒ¨οΈπŸ‘€!
