Connor Bedard notches two points, rues missed shot in Blackhawks' loss to Blue Jackets

Connor Bedard Struggles After Missed Shot in Blackhawks' Loss to Blue Jackets

In a frustrating 4-2 defeat against the Columbus Blue Jackets, Blackhawks forward Connor Bedard recorded two points for the first time in several weeks. However, it was his late-third-period missed shot that left him visibly disappointed on the bench and in the locker room.

The Blackhawks were unable to capitalize on numerous scoring opportunities throughout the game, with their power play going 0-for-26 in what marked their fifth consecutive loss. Despite outshooting the Blue Jackets 16-5 during the second half of the game, Chicago was ultimately unable to rally back from a 3-1 deficit.

Bedard did manage to score in a second consecutive game and assisted on Frank Nazar's first goal in six games since returning from injury. However, his frustration at missing that late shot seemed to be more palpable than any words he might have chosen to express it.

On the flip side, rookie defenseman Sam Rinzel had an impact skating and moving the puck with reduced errors during his first NHL appearance since early December. Coach Jeff Blashill praised Rinzel's performance, citing that "he played well" outside of one decision made on a late step into the offensive zone.

Meanwhile, Blue Jackets forward Charlie Coyle notched a hat trick, but his go-ahead goal early in the second period was heavily assisted by Blackhawks forward Andre Burakovsky. This marks another stretch of January where Burakovsky has struggled, entering Friday with just one point in 10 games since Jan. 9.

The Blackhawks' frequent call-ups of Rockford's best players have taken a toll on their AHL win-loss record, currently sitting at the fourth-worst mark at 16-23-4. In addition, goalie Drew Commesso was placed in concussion protocol following Friday's game.

Three Blackhawks reached milestones during the match: Connor Murphy and Teuvo Teravainen played their 800th career games, while Mikheyev marked his 400th career game.

so bedard's having a bit of an identity crisis? πŸ˜’ like, two points in weeks is fine i guess, but then you gotta go and miss that easy shot πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ and now he's all bent outta shape on the bench. meanwhile, sam rinzel comes in and suddenly becomes a pro πŸ’ͺ, but let's be real, he's still gonna make some rookie mistakes πŸ™ƒ. on the other hand, charlie coyle gets to have his hat trick party πŸŽ‰, but it's all thanks to burakovsky's... um, "helpful" passing πŸ˜’. and poor drew commesso has to deal with a concussion protocol πŸ€• because of course he does πŸ’”

Connor Bedard is really struggling right now πŸ’”πŸ’οΈ He had a couple of good plays on the ice, but that one missed shot really got to him and it's clear he's frustrated. It's like he's just not getting the confidence boost he needs from his team or something. On the other hand, it's cool to see Sam Rinzel making a big impact in his first game back – he showed some solid skills out there πŸ€©πŸ‘

But what's up with all these call-ups from Rockford? It can't be easy for them to keep getting pulled away from their games and trying to adjust to the NHL again. And with Drew Commesso in concussion protocol, it's like this team is just getting hit with one thing after another... not exactly the best feeling to watch πŸ€•πŸ’οΈ

πŸ€” Bedard's frustration is pretty relatable, you know? We've all been there when we're so close to scoring but just can't seem to get it right πŸ’οΈ. He'll bounce back though, and that second goal was a nice consolation. The Blackhawks need him to find his rhythm ASAP ⏱️. Rinzel looks promising on the defensive side of things, but those power play woes are concerning... 0-for-26 is just ridiculous 😩. Maybe they can mix up their lines or something?

😐 I don't get why coach Jeff Blashill is all like "he played well" when it's super obvious that Sam Rinzel made a bad decision on the ice πŸ€”. Like, you can say something nice and still acknowledge the mistake, right? 😊 And what's up with Connor Bedard missing that shot in the last minute of the game? He looked so close to scoring πŸ’”.

omg u think bedard gonna snap out of it soon? he's been looking so off lately πŸ’”πŸ˜’ i feel bad for him, he's such a talented player and we know he can do better 🀞 meanwhile, sam rinzel is quietly making a name for himself in the nhl πŸ™Œ coach blashill seems to be recognizing his potential too πŸ‘ what's up with burakovsky tho? still struggling like 5 games ago πŸ€”πŸ‘€

Connor Bedard just can't seem to catch a break for that one shot πŸ˜”. Like, two points in weeks isn't bad but then you miss the chance to tie it up and he's gonna be thinkin' about what could've been 🀯. On the flip side, Sam Rinzel looked like a total pro out there πŸ’Ό. We need more players like him on our team. And can we talk about Charlie Coyle's hat trick for a sec? πŸŽ‰ Like, congrats are in order but that assist from Andre Burakovsky was pretty sketchy πŸ€”.
