"Enough is enough": Senate marches toward vote to limit Trump's war powers in Venezuela

US Senate Pushes Back Against Trump's War Powers in Venezuela, With Some GOP Senators Defying the President

In a move to curb President Donald Trump's war powers, the US Senate has advanced a measure to limit his ability to wage war "within or against Venezuela" without Congressional approval. The measure passed the upper house with a narrow margin of 52-47, as five Republicans broke party ranks to vote in favor of Democrats.

The defection from Trump's party members immediately sparked outrage, with the president taking to Truth Social to lash out at the dissenters. He labeled them "stupid" and warned that they should "never be elected again."

However, some GOP senators have defended their votes, citing the need for Congressional oversight. Senator Josh Hawley, who broke ranks, explained his decision by referencing the Constitution's War Powers Act. According to Hawley, if Trump plans to deploy troops to Venezuela in the future, Congress would need to vote on it.

Senator Rand Paul, another Republican who defied the president, echoed similar sentiments. He described Trump's actions as an "act of war" and argued that no provision in the Constitution grants such power to the presidency. Paul emphasized that any self-respecting congressman would reject this notion.

Senator Susan Collins, meanwhile, expressed support for US efforts to capture Venezuelan President NicolΓ‘s Maduro but took issue with Trump's comments about deploying additional US forces without Congressional approval. She stated that invoking the War Powers Act is necessary in light of the president's remarks on "boots on the ground" and a sustained engagement in Venezuela.

The resolution now heads to a full Senate vote, which may occur next week following an amendment process.

I'm literally shaking with anger right now 😀... like what is Trump even thinking?! These five GOP senators who defected from his party should get a medal for having the guts to stand up against him πŸ™Œ. I mean, come on, "stupid" and "never be elected again"? That's just disgusting 🚽.

And can we talk about how some of these Republicans are actually doing some actual thinking here? Like Josh Hawley and Rand Paul, they're all like "hold up, dude, let's check the Constitution" πŸ“œ. I love it! It's like they're not completely brain-dead 🧠.

But at the same time, I'm also kinda concerned about the whole thing. If Trump is gonna take this seriously and start deploying troops without Congressional approval, that's just a recipe for disaster 😨. And what about Susan Collins? She's trying to find a middle ground here, but it's hard when you're dealing with someone as reckless as Trump 🀯.

Anyway, I'm rooting for these five GOP senators who defected from Trump's party πŸ’ͺ. They might just be the only ones who can save us from this crazy situation πŸ˜‚.

πŸ˜¬πŸ€” Trump's gonna be mad 🀯 at his own party members for not backing him up πŸ’β€β™‚οΈ 52-47 is like a tiny thread 🧡 that might snap under the weight of more drama 🎭. Those five GOP senators who voted with the Dems πŸ‘ got some serious love ❀️ from the opposition, but they're still gonna face heat πŸ”₯ from Trump's loyal base 🚫.

It's all about finding balance πŸ’― in war powers, you know? Too much power to one branch can lead to a total mess 🀯. The War Powers Act is like a safety net 🌈 that ensures Congress has the final say πŸ‘Š. Rand Paul and Josh Hawley are being super cool β˜•οΈ by sticking to their guns πŸ’ͺ, even if it means going against Trump.

The full Senate vote is coming up next week, so fingers crossed 🀞 that some sanity will prevail πŸ™ and we won't end up in a hot mess πŸ”₯. πŸš«πŸ‘€

"The die has been cast." 🀯
If 5 GOP senators can see that Trump's actions are "stupid", why can't they just say no? πŸ˜’
It's time for Republicans to think with their brains not their party loyalty πŸ’‘
The US Senate is taking a stand, but will it be enough to stop Trump from making more poor decisions? πŸ€”

omg i'm literally shocked by these 5 republicans who went against trump 🀯 they totally did what's right! it's about time we have some courage in our congress πŸ™Œ senator hawley and rand paul are total heroes for speaking up and saying that trumps war powers need to be checked πŸ’ͺ we should all take a note from them and stand by the constitution, not just talk about it 😊

OMG u guys! 😱 I just can't even believe what's happening with Trump right now 🀯! Like seriously, how is he still able to get away with this kinda stuff? He's been all aggressive and threatening towards Venezuela without even getting Congressional approval 🚫! And then the GOP senators who actually had some brains and voted against him get roasted by their own president 😑! Josh Hawley and Rand Paul are like total heroes for standing up against Trump's authoritarian vibes πŸ’―! And Susan Collins is like, "yaaas let's support US efforts to capture Maduro but no thanks to Trump's unvetted plans" πŸ‘ŠπŸ»! Fingers crossed that the full Senate will take a stand next week and pass this resolution 🀞!

can you believe these 5 GOP senators who actually have some brains πŸ’‘ they're basically saying "hey trump, nope we won't let you just go rogue on venezuela" meanwhile the rest of trump's party is too busy cowering behind their own ego πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ and now trump's all like a petulant child throwing tantrums on truth social πŸŽ‰ lol what's next gonna be him tweeting about having a "meltdown" because he didn't get his way πŸ•

I'm low-key impressed by those 5 GOP senators who defied Trump's tantrums 🀯. I mean, come on, Trump is always talking about "making America great again," but it looks like some of his own party members are like "hold up, that includes respecting our democracy too, bro" πŸ˜‚. It's cool to see some folks standing up for Congressional oversight and the Constitution.

And can we talk about how Trump always tries to bully people who disagree with him on Truth Social? Like, dude, if you're going to be mad at someone, try being civil instead of just calling them "stupid" πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. I'm all for calling out his behavior, but at the same time, let's keep it classy, right?

Anyway, it'll be interesting to see how this plays out in the Senate next week. Will they vote in favor of the resolution? Only time will tell! πŸ‘€

I don’t usually comment but I gotta say, it’s crazy how some GOP senators are actually standing up to Trump 🀯. Like, yeah, war powers are important and all that, but the fact that he's lashing out at them for even questioning his actions is just wild. And honestly, I can see why they'd want more oversight – it feels like Trump is getting away with some pretty reckless stuff πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ.

And don’t even get me started on Senator Collins and her stance on Maduro... I feel like she’s one of the only Republicans left who actually cares about doing what's right πŸ˜’. It’s all about following protocol, not just blindly following a president who thinks he can do whatever he wants without consequences πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ.

I don’t know if it'll make a difference in the end, but it’s kinda refreshing to see some senators putting country over party for once πŸ’ͺ. Even if Trump is gonna try and whip up some outrage about it on Truth Social...

lol what's up with trump being all salty about 5 republicans not voting for him? πŸ˜‚ like newsflash dude, you can't just make up your own laws and expect everyone else to follow. it's kinda cool that some of his own party members are standing up for the constitution tho πŸ€“ gotta give props to senator hawley for explaining why they voted that way πŸ‘

πŸ€” this whole thing is so crazy i mean trump thinks he can just do whatever he wants in venezuela without congress saying okay? πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ newsflash don't make it personal, dude. we're talking about the constitution here. 5 republicans are like "nope not gonna go along with that" and now they're getting roasted by trump but honestly i kinda respect them for standing up to him. senator hawley is right on point though, this war powers act thing is legit. it's all about checks and balances, you know? πŸ’―

Can you believe Trump's temper tantrum? 🀣 5 GOP senators are like "boo hoo, I don't wanna play with Trump" πŸŽ‰ and he calls them "stupid" like that's gonna stop them πŸ˜‚. Meanwhile, they actually make a good point about needing Congressional oversight. It's like my aunt saying "I'm not nagging, you just need to listen" πŸ˜’. Anyway, it's interesting to see the Senate push back on Trump's war powers. Maybe someone should tell him that being the leader of the free world isn't all about tweeting and flexing πŸ€Έβ€β™‚οΈ.

OMG u guys! 😱 So like I just read this news about the US Senate pushing back against Trump's war powers in Venezuela 🀯 And it's kinda crazy that some GOP senators are defying him, even though he's being super salty about it πŸ™„ Like, I get it, Trump's all passionate but come on, be civil, dude πŸ˜‚. Anywayz, I think this is a pretty big deal because it shows the Senate is trying to hold Trump accountable for his actions πŸ’ͺ. And I'm low-key excited about the amendment process that's gonna happen next πŸ€”. Can't wait to see how it all plays out πŸ‘€πŸ’»

I mean come on, can't believe some of these GOP senators are actually standing up for something 🀯. I get it, Trump's been all over the place with this war thing in Venezuela and it's time someone held him accountable. Those 5 Republicans who voted against him? Total heroes in my book πŸ™Œ! I mean what's next, is Trump gonna start a Twitter rant about how he's invincible too? πŸ˜‚

But for real, it's about time some of these guys started thinking with their heads instead of just following the party line. I don't care if they're Republicans or not, Congress needs to be able to make decisions without the President just making stuff up on the fly. It's all about checks and balances, folks πŸ‘Š!

And can we talk about Trump's response? Like, wow, "stupid" and "never be elected again"? That's rich coming from a guy who thinks he's above the law πŸ™„. Newsflash, Donald: you're not above the Constitution, boo! 😑

Anyway, this is some serious progress for democracy in the US and I'm loving it πŸ’ͺ. Can't wait to see what happens next with this resolution πŸ‘€.

omg I'm shocked by some GOP senators actually standing up to Trump 🀯 like what's going through their minds? they're basically saying "sorry Donald we're not with you on this" and it's kinda refreshing πŸ™Œ I mean, someone needs to hold him accountable for his actions, and if that means a few Republicans have to break party ranks, so be it 😊.

i'm also loving the fact that some senators are actually reading up on their Constitution πŸ“š like Senator Josh Hawley who cited the War Powers Act, that's some solid research right there πŸ™Œ. And Senator Rand Paul making sense with his whole "no provision in the Constitution grants such power to the presidency" vibe πŸ‘ it's about time someone called Trump out for overstepping.

anyway, I'm keeping an eye on this development, it'll be interesting to see how it plays out πŸ’‘
