Family of Alex Pretti retains lawyer who helped prosecute the George Floyd case

Minnesota Family Hires Former Prosecutor to Represent Son Shot by Border Patrol

The parents of Alex Pretti have retained a seasoned lawyer who played a crucial role in the prosecution of Derek Chauvin, the Minneapolis police officer convicted of murdering George Floyd. Steve Schleicher, a partner at Minneapolis firm Maslon, will represent Michael and Susan Pretti pro bono after his son was fatally shot by U.S. Border Patrol officers during an immigration enforcement operation.

Schleicher's experience in handling high-profile cases was highlighted in his previous role as special prosecutor for Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison during Chauvin's trial in 2021. Prior to entering private practice, Schleicher served as a state prosecutor and worked for 13 years in the office of the U.S. Attorney for the District of Minnesota, where he handled cases ranging from murder to organized crime.

The lawyers were retained by the Pretti family to protect their interests following the tragic incident. Alex Pretti's younger sister, Micayla, has also hired attorney Anthony Cotton of Kuchler & Cotton in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as a separate representation.

Videos of the shooting appear to show one officer removing the handgun from Alex Pretti before two others opened fire, sparking widespread outrage and calls for accountability. This incident follows the recent death of Minneapolis resident Renee Good, who was shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer on January 7th.

๐Ÿค• You can't help but feel so bad for this family ๐Ÿค•. I mean, just think about their lives being turned upside down with their son passing away in such a tragic way ๐Ÿ˜”. And now they're having to deal with the complexities of getting justice done ๐Ÿคฏ. Hired a lawyer who's got serious credentials on his resume ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ, but it's just not going to bring back Alex ๐Ÿ’”. It makes you wonder how many more families have to go through this? ๐Ÿค” And what about all these new laws and policies being made around immigration? It's like, what's the real goal here? Protecting people or making sure the system is followed to the letter? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ I just wish we could have a more open and honest conversation about all this without so much drama ๐Ÿ˜’.

๐Ÿค” you know what's wild? I just got back from this random road trip to visit my aunt in Wisconsin last weekend ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’จ and we ended up taking a detour through this super quirky town in the middle of nowhere... it had this crazy old diner that was still open 24/7 and they served the most epic cheese curds I've ever had ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿง€. anyway, where was I? oh yeah, this border patrol thing... it's just so messed up ๐Ÿค• how do we even deal with these kinds of situations? like, I know immigration laws are meant to be strict but does that really justify taking a life? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

just heard about this and it's getting me so frustrated ๐Ÿคฏ. another innocent life lost due to immigration enforcement and no clear answers or justice for the family. it's like they're trying to sweep things under the rug. I'm all for border control but not at the cost of human lives! we need more transparency and accountability in these situations. and what's with this "pro bono" thing? just because a lawyer thinks it's the right thing to do doesn't mean it's fair for the Pretti family to have to rely on someone else's charity ๐Ÿค

OMG, can you believe this? ๐Ÿ˜ฒ The US Border Patrol is under so much scrutiny again! I mean, I'm all about keeping our borders safe and secure, but come on... a kid gets shot by the people who are supposed to be helping him, not harming him ๐Ÿค•. And now his family has a former prosecutor on their side, which is pretty interesting considering Steve Schleicher's past work with Derek Chauvin's case. I guess you could say there's a bit of a history between law enforcement and the Pretti family right about now... ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

๐Ÿค” This is a super tough one... I think it's great that Steve Schleicher has agreed to represent Alex Pretti's family pro bono ๐Ÿ™. It's heartbreaking what happened to their son, and they deserve someone with his experience to help fight for justice. But at the same time, I can understand why the border patrol might have been trying to make a quick arrest in that situation ๐Ÿšจ. We need to figure out how to balance our desire to keep our borders secure with making sure people aren't being killed or hurt by law enforcement ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ. This case is definitely going to spark some important conversations about police accountability and immigration reform... it's all about finding that middle ground ๐ŸŒŽ๐Ÿ’ก

OMG u gotta believe this ๐Ÿคฏ, a dad is literally hiring a former prosecutor from the Chauvin trial to represent his son who got shot by Border Patrol!!! Steve Schleicher's connections are everything right now ๐Ÿ˜‚. The family wants to make sure they're protected and I get it, but like what's next? Are we gonna see a change in immigration laws now? ๐Ÿค” It's all super sensitive rn, so fingers crossed the Pretti family gets justice for their son... this is just too much ๐Ÿ’”

idk how this is fair ๐Ÿค”... a fam hires some rich lawyer to fight their son's case and gets free legal services? that sounds super unfair to all the people who can't afford that kinda cash ๐Ÿ’ธ my guess is it's gonna be a long & expensive process... also, what exactly are we waiting for here? just some answers about how/why this happened? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

This is so messed up ๐Ÿค•. A family loses their kid to Border Patrol and they get handed a seasoned lawyer who just happened to work on another high-profile case from years ago? I mean, I'm all for getting the best help you can get, but it feels like there's been too much waiting around while these officers are facing questions about this incident. It's like, what if this had been your kid? The thought of waiting that long to have someone speak up for them is just devastating ๐Ÿคฏ. And now we've got another case popping up with someone else getting shot by an ICE officer... it feels like justice isn't really being served here ๐Ÿ˜•

I'm really troubled by this case... ๐Ÿค• it's just not right that a kid gets shot by border patrol officers during a routine check, and his family has to go through all this stress and drama trying to get justice done. I mean, what were the circumstances leading up to this shooting? Was Alex doing something wrong or threatening anyone? We don't really know yet... but one thing's for sure, it's gotta be investigated thoroughly so we can get some answers.

And then you see the connection between Alex's family and a former prosecutor, Steve Schleicher, who worked on Derek Chauvin's case back in 2021... that's just crazy. You'd think that justice would've been served already, but I guess it takes time and people like Steve Schleicher to take up the cause.

It's also interesting to see Alex's sister, Micayla, hiring a separate attorney from Wisconsin... maybe they need someone with different expertise or experience? Either way, my heart goes out to the Pretti family during this tough time. ๐ŸŒŸ

๐Ÿค• The data says that in 2022, US border patrol agents were involved in 1,416 fatal shootings, with 85% of them being unarmed individuals ๐Ÿ“Š. And in the last year alone, there have been over 200 reported cases of people being shot by immigration enforcement officers... like Alex Pretti ๐Ÿšจ. The odds are stacked against these families, and it's heartbreaking to think about the trauma they're going through ๐Ÿ’”. What's concerning is that 71% of border patrol agents have never received any formal training on de-escalation techniques or crisis management ๐Ÿ˜•. It's time for some serious reforms and accountability measures... our system can't keep failing these families ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. Did you know that since 2017, the US has seen a 30% increase in deaths at the southern border? The stats are just numbers, but they tell a story of tragedy and loss ๐Ÿ“ˆ.

I'm really worried about this situation, it's just too much... a kid getting shot by border patrol and no one knows why ๐Ÿคฏ. I think we need to be more careful about how our immigration system is handled, there gotta be better ways to resolve conflicts without resorting to violence ๐Ÿ’”. I hope Steve Schleicher can do some good for the Pretti family, but it's not like this will bring Alex back or anything ๐Ÿ˜”. And another thing that's got me thinking, why do we need a special prosecutor to deal with these cases? Can't they just investigate and prosecute normally? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

I'm all about giving people a second chance ๐Ÿค, you know? So when I heard that Steve Schleicher, the lawyer who worked with Derek Chauvin during his trial, is now representing Alex Pretti's family pro bono... it just makes me think he's trying to do the right thing. I mean, the guy was a part of the system that led to Chauvin's conviction, but that doesn't necessarily make him guilty by association ๐Ÿค”.

Plus, let's be real, these things can get super messy and emotional ๐Ÿ’”. The Pretti family is already dealing with one tragedy, so if Steve Schleicher can help them navigate this whole situation without making it worse... I think that's a pretty good thing. And hey, maybe this will lead to some changes in the way Immigration and Customs Enforcement operates ๐Ÿคž?

I'm so glad to hear that Steve Schleicher is taking on this case pro bono! ๐Ÿ™ It's amazing how he can use his skills to help another family in need after making a difference in the past. This whole situation is just heartbreaking, but I think it's awesome that the Pretti family has found someone with such experience and expertise to help them navigate this tough time.

It's also good to see Micayla getting her own lawyer, Anthony Cotton - two families getting the support they need! ๐Ÿค— The fact that there are lawyers willing to give their time and effort to these cases is just a testament to how much people care about justice and doing what's right. And let's not forget all the outrage and calls for accountability - it's not easy to talk about, but it's great that we're having this conversation! ๐Ÿ’ฌ

the thing that gets me is that family can't even trust the border patrol to keep their own kid safe ๐Ÿค• meanwhile, we need more people like steve schleicher doing pro bono work for these families... it's crazy that they had to hire a lawyer with experience in high-profile cases just to protect their interests ๐Ÿ’ผ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ

[diagram of a person holding hands with two lawyers]

the border patrol is still working on its issues, but at the same time we need systemic changes to prevent these kinds of tragedies from happening again ๐Ÿค

I FEEL SO BAD FOR THE PRETTI FAMILY!!! THEY'RE GOING THROUGH THIS TRAGIC STUFF AND NOW THEY'VE GOT A TALENTED LAWYER LIKE STEVE SCHLEICHER TO HELP THEM OUT!! IT'S JUST NOT RIGHT THAT THEIR SON WAS SHOT BY BORDER PATROL OFFICERS AND NOW HE'S FALLEN AWAY!!! I HOPE JUSTICE IS SERVED AND THE PEOPLE RESPONSIBLE ARE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS!!!!

This is just getting crazy ๐Ÿคฏ. First responders like Steve Schleicher are doing their thing to help families in need. I mean, it's pro bono? No questions asked... but still a huge relief for the Pretti family, right? They're gonna fight hard for justice and make sure this never happens to another kid. 13 years of experience is a lot to handle, and now he's gotta deal with all this drama ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. But I guess that's what makes him a good lawyer - he can take on tough cases like this one.

omg this is so sad ๐Ÿค• my heart goes out to micayla and michael pretti their son alex's life was cut short and it's just not fair ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ the fact that his family needs a former prosecutor like steve schleicher on their side just shows how messed up things can get in america sometimes ๐Ÿ˜” but i do hope justice is served and those responsible are held accountable ๐Ÿ’ช
