A British boxer has been upgraded to the main event of a BBC Two show after an injury to one of her opponents. Francesca Hennessy, 21, will now face off against Ellie Bouttell in the bantamweight division, which was previously scheduled for Adam Azim's light-welterweight contest with Gustavo Lemos.
Hennessy is undefeated in her seven professional bouts and will be looking to make a statement in her first major title eliminator. She will be fighting for a spot on the WBC bantamweight title, currently held by Cherneka Johnson from Australia.
Bouttell, 29, has won seven of his nine professional fights, including a draw against Chinese opponent Li Wei. The two fighters have a history, with Hennessy previously beating Bouttell's countryman in the ring.
The event will be broadcast live on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer, marking the third time this year that professional boxing has been shown on prime-time linear BBC television. The show also features an all-British co-main event between Scottish light-heavyweight Boris Crighton and Dutch fighter Gradus Kraus.
The upgrade to the main event is a significant one for Hennessy, who will be looking to establish herself as a top contender in her division. If she wins, she could be in line for a world title shot within the next year.
Hennessy's manager has stated that the boxer has the potential to dominate her division and become a future pound-for-pound star. The bout against Bouttell is set to take place at London's Copper Box Arena on Saturday night.
