'Gruffalo Granny is coming to stay': new story to be released in September

Julia Donaldson is set to delight fans with her latest Gruffalo tale, 'Gruffalo Granny', which will be released in September this year. This new addition marks 20 years since the author's previous sequel to the beloved monster's story, 'The Gruffalo's Child'.

In an interview, Donaldson revealed that the idea for the new book had been brewing in her mind for some time, but she couldn't find a way to develop it until the National Literacy Trust approached her with their Early Words Matter programme. The trust used her previous two books as part of their initiative and encouraged her to revisit her idea.

The result is a story that promises to bring back familiar characters from 'The Gruffalo' and 'The Gruffalo's Child', including Fox, Snake, Owl, and Mouse, along with the introduction of Gruffalo Granny. The book will be illustrated by Axel Scheffler, who has worked closely with Donaldson on several projects in the past.

Scheffler was initially hesitant to revisit the deep dark wood but eventually came around when he read Donaldson's new text. He is now excited to bring his own brand of storytelling to the story, which promises to be a thrilling adventure for fans of the series.

The new book comes with great fanfare, with Macmillan Children's Books planning a special project in central London and Glasgow to showcase Scheffler's illustration. The event will allow fans to get their first glimpse at the new Gruffalo Granny before the story hits the shelves.

'Gruffalo Granny' is the latest addition to a series that has already sold over 18 million copies worldwide, with translations in 115 languages and dialects. Donaldson and Scheffler have collaborated on numerous projects, including 'The Snail and the Whale', 'Room on the Broom', and 'Stick Man'.

This new release promises to be just as captivating as its predecessors and will likely become a staple of children's book collections around the world.

omg i'm so excited for this new Gruffalo story πŸ€©πŸ“š i love Julia Donaldson's books, they're like my childhood πŸŽ‚ but i have to ask, what's with all these new additions to the series? can we just keep it simple with one new story every now and then? 😜 anyway, Axel Scheffler is such a talented illustrator, i loved his work on Room on the Broom πŸ“πŸŒΏ but gruffalo granny sounds like a really cool character, i wonder what she's like πŸ€”

I love how Julia Donaldson is still coming up with new ideas for the Gruffalo series πŸ€”πŸ’‘! It's amazing that she found her inspiration again after 20 years, thanks to the National Literacy Trust's Early Words Matter programme. Axel Scheffler's involvement is a bonus too - his illustrations always bring those characters to life in such a wonderful way πŸ“šπŸŽ¨. Can't wait for the September release and that special event in London and Glasgow! I'm actually kinda excited for this new Gruffalo story πŸ€”! 20 years since the last sequel is a big deal, so I hope it does justice to the original. The idea that Axel Scheffler was initially hesitant but then came on board is interesting - it shows he's still committed to bringing his own style to the series. And an event in central London and Glasgow sounds like a great way for fans to get hyped πŸŽ‰. I'm curious to see how Gruffalo Granny fits into the story, though... will she be as lovable as the others? πŸ»πŸ’¬

🀫 I'm low-key obsessed with Julia Donaldson's new Gruffalo tale, 'Gruffalo Granny'! πŸŽ‰ I've been waiting for this announcement since it dropped. Fox, Snake, Owl, and Mouse, plus Gruffalo Granny... my inner child is already getting excited! 🎊 September can't come soon enough!

I'm not getting all excited about this Gruffalo Granny business... I mean, it's been 20 years since The Gruffalo's Child came out, so what's new? Another story with the same old characters just gonna make me go "meh". I like Axel Scheffler's illustrations, don't get me wrong, but do we really need another book from Julia Donaldson? And a special event in London and Glasgow, yeah sure, that sounds like a lot of hype for my money 😐. Give me something new and innovative instead of revisiting old favorites...
