In Search of Youkali album review – Katie Bray is outstanding in this voyage around Weill

I'm utterly fascinated by Katie Bray's latest project, it's like she's diving headfirst into the depths of Kurt Weill's psyche 🤯. The way she weaves together his most evocative works is nothing short of masterful, her voice is this incredible vessel that conveys the composer's innermost thoughts and emotions in a way that feels both deeply personal and universally relatable.

I mean, have you heard 'Je ne t'aime pas'? It's like Bray is singing directly to your soul 😩. And the way she navigates Weill's eclectic canon, effortlessly traversing languages and genres... it's just genius. The supporting musicians are on point too, their accompaniment is this perfect counterpoint to Bray's singing that adds an otherworldly essence to each performance.

It's also really interesting to see how Bray explores the darker aspects of Weill's work, like 'Barbarasong' which is just a masterclass in dark comedy 🤣. But at the same time, she can convey this sense of sorrow and longing that feels so deeply human.

Anyway, if you haven't checked out 'In Search of Youkali' yet... what are you even doing with your life? 😂

🎵👏 oh man this Katie Bray is literally voice of an angel she's got so much depth in her singing, like she's not just singing the notes but she's actually feeling the emotions through every single word 🤩 and the way she navigates Weill's songs is just incredible, like a masterclass in conveying emotion without saying a word 💭 anyone else been to this concert? 😍
