Latest snow storm forecast maps show fresh predictions for where winter weather will hit hardest

Millions of Americans are bracing for a massive winter storm that's expected to bring snow, sleet, and freezing rain across nearly three-quarters of the country. The storm system, spanning from New Mexico and Texas to the Northeast, is forecast to impact 35 states, with possible hazardous conditions predicted across 19 states and Washington D.C.

The largest storm in recent history to affect so many states, it's expected to leave a trail of destruction in its wake. As millions hunker down for the worst of it, emergency declarations have been issued in multiple states, including South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, Maryland, Arkansas, Alabama, Delaware, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, Indiana, Texas, and West Virginia.

The storm's effects will be felt across the country, with forecasters warning of frigid temperatures, gusty winds, and wind chills that could bring mercury levels plummeting into negative numbers. Areas at the center of the storm are expected to see up to two feet of snow between Saturday and Monday, with major cities like New York City, Boston, and Oklahoma City bracing for 12-18 inches of snow.

However, it's not just snow that poses a threat โ€“ ice accumulations are also forecast, which can be more treacherous than snow. The weight of ice on power lines is more likely to cause outages, and it's harder to clear than snow, making driving conditions even more hazardous.

The southern part of the country will see both snow and ice, with areas like Texas, Georgia, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee expected to receive significant accumulations. Freezing rain has already begun coating roads in these states, and cars are struggling to stay on the road.

As the storm begins to move across land, residents are being warned to stay home and avoid driving altogether. However, dozens of drivers have already slid off the roads, highlighting the severity of the situation. With 45 snowplows at Nashville's disposal, transportation officials are bracing for a long and challenging day ahead.

The National Weather Service has issued warnings of "catastrophic impacts" where freezing rain amounts exceed half an inch, with over one-inch totals possible in parts of northern Louisiana, central and northern Mississippi, southern Tennessee, and the southern Appalachians. Temperatures or wind chills are forecast to fall below 5 degrees Fahrenheit for over 47 million people under an extreme cold warning, while over 8 million are under a watch for more severe conditions.

As the storm rages on, communities from the Southern Plains to the Northeast will contend with bitterly cold temperatures and dangerously cold wind chills. The National Weather Service cautions that prolonged hazardous travel and infrastructure impacts are expected in the wake of the storm.

๐ŸŒจ๏ธ this storm is gonna be a doozy, I'm not surprised it's causing so much chaos - i mean, 2 feet of snow in NYC is just crazy! ๐Ÿคฏ but seriously, 45 snowplows isn't enough to handle the situation... and what about all the drivers who are still out on the roads? ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ˜ฌ freezing rain is way more treacherous than snow, I get it. ๐Ÿ™ but let's not forget that this storm is also gonna leave a huge trail of destruction behind - not just in terms of snow and ice, but also in terms of power outages and whatnot. ๐Ÿ’ก so yeah, stay home and avoid driving, that's the way to go! โš ๏ธ

๐ŸŒจ๏ธ This is getting serious! I'm watching the forecast closely - 2 feet of snow, frigid temps, gusty winds... it's gonna be a long haul for those bracing for this one. The southern states are already dealing with freezing rain and ice accumulations on roads, which makes driving super treacherous. I'm keeping an eye on those snowplows in Nashville - 45 of 'em? That's a whole lotta salt! ๐ŸŒฎ Stay safe out there, everyone! ๐Ÿ’ก

omg this winter storm is looking super intense ๐ŸŒจ๏ธ! i feel bad for all those people in the southern states who are already dealing with freezing rain and ice on the roads, it's like they're getting hit from both sides โ„๏ธ๐Ÿ’ง. and ugh, 2 feet of snow in major cities? that's a lot to shovel ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. i hope everyone stays safe and warm during this time โค๏ธ๏ธ.

๐ŸŒจ๏ธ oh man, this winter storm is gonna be crazy! I'm not surprised that multiple states have declared emergencies - 35 states is a lot to handle! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ the southern part of the country is gonna get hit hard with both snow and ice... I hope everyone is staying safe and prepared for the worst ๐Ÿšจ. 2 feet of snow in NYC? That's insane! โ„๏ธ and freezing rain can be super treacherous, so let's all just stay indoors and avoid driving altogether ๐Ÿ›‹๏ธ. My heart goes out to those who are gonna have to deal with prolonged power outages and icy roads ๐Ÿ˜“. Fingers crossed the storm passes soon and we get some sunshine back โ˜€๏ธ!

๐ŸŒจ๏ธ oh man, this winter storm is looking like a total beast! ๐Ÿคฏ I'm talking widespread power outages, treacherous roads, and super low temps - it's not pretty. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ as someone who's always on the go, the last thing I want to deal with is driving in that mess. โ„๏ธ plus, all those people stuck at home? ๐Ÿ“บ streaming marathons all day sounds like a solid plan to me ๐Ÿ˜‰

I'm kinda sure this storm is gonna be a total disaster ๐ŸŒช๏ธ, but on the other hand, it's also possible that all the preparations and warnings will keep people safe... probably? I mean, we've been through lots of bad storms before, so some folks might not take it as seriously as they should. At the same time, it seems like a lot of states are getting hit hard, which makes me think it's gonna be really tough for everyone involved. The southern part of the country is supposed to get both snow and ice, which sounds super treacherous... or maybe just really slippery? ๐Ÿค”

omg i no how people r gonna freak out over dis winter storm lol ๐Ÿ˜‚ 35 states? dat's like half the country! but seriously, it sounds super bad with all da snow, sleet, and freezing rain... 2 feet of snow in some areas? that's crazy! ๐Ÿคฏ and da icing on top (no pun intended) is gonna make driving conditions even worse. i feel sorry for ppl stuck on da roads tryin to get home. but at least we got plenty of time before it hits, right? so let's all just hunker down, grab some hot cocoa, and hope dis storm passes smoothly ๐Ÿซ๐Ÿ’ค

I'm like "Yeah, I totally think this winter storm is going to be a total disaster... ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ˜ฑ" But at the same time, I'm all like "Nah, maybe it's not that bad... โš ๏ธ๐ŸŒซ๏ธ" I mean, I've seen some crazy storms in my time, and I know how quickly things can get out of hand. On one hand, the fact that 45 snowplows are at Nashville's disposal is kinda reassuring? ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ But on the other hand, those dozens of drivers who have already slid off the roads are giving me some serious jitters ๐Ÿ˜จ.

I guess what I'm saying is... I don't know... maybe this storm will be a total snooze fest? ๐Ÿ˜ด Or maybe it'll be one for the books? ๐Ÿ“š Either way, I'm just gonna hunker down with a cuppa and wait for it to pass ๐Ÿต.

ugh this is gonna be bad ๐Ÿค•... i feel for all those people bracing for this monster storm, like 2ft of snow is a lot to deal with ๐ŸŒจ๏ธ especially if you're not used to it or don't have proper gear. and then there's the ice, which is super tricky to handle ๐Ÿšง. my heart goes out to all those drivers who've already slid off the roads... stay safe everyone! ๐Ÿ’• i just hope emergency services can keep up with the demand โค๏ธ

๐ŸŒŸ This massive winter storm is like a big blanket of challenges, but I see it as an opportunity for people to come together! ๐Ÿ˜Š With millions bracing for the worst, we'll likely see a surge in acts of kindness and community spirit. Neighbors helping neighbors, strangers becoming friends over hot cocoa โ˜•๏ธ, and families making memories despite the storm.

And let's not forget about all the brave snowplow drivers out there, risking their lives to clear roads! ๐Ÿ’ช They're the unsung heroes of this storm, keeping us safe and connected.

Of course, it's scary when temperatures plummet and travel becomes treacherous, but I believe we'll get through this together. We just need to be patient, stay informed, and support each other. And hey, who knows? Maybe the snow will bring a magical winter wonderland to our cities! ๐ŸŽ„โ„๏ธ

Ugh, another winter storm hitting the US ๐ŸŒจ๏ธ๐Ÿ˜ฉ It's like we're stuck in some kind of Groundhog Day, where every few years we get slammed with snow and freezing temps. I mean, I love a good snow day as much as the next person, but this one sounds like it's going to be a real doozy.

I'm a bit worried about all those people out there bracing for the worst โ€“ my grandma is in Virginia and she's not exactly fond of this sort of thing ๐Ÿค•. And what's with all these states getting slammed at once? It's like Mother Nature decided to throw a snowball fight across the entire country ๐ŸŽ‰.

But seriously, freezing rain is no joke โ€“ I've seen those ice accumulations ruin roads and power lines in an instant โ„๏ธ. And 2 feet of snow in some areas? That's just crazy talk! I hope everyone has enough supplies to weather this thing out without too much trouble.

And can we talk about the poor guys on the ground, like the snowplow drivers at Nashville's airport? They're the real MVPs โšก๏ธ. Those folks are braving -20 degree temps and hazardous conditions just to keep us safe. Shoutout to them ๐Ÿ™!

omg u gotta b careful out thur!! i mean, i feel for ppl livin in those states, but seriously, it sounds like this storm is gonna be INSANE ๐ŸŒจ๏ธ๐Ÿ’ฅ with all that snow & ice & freezing temps... 2 ft of snow in NYC?! that's wild ๐Ÿ˜ฑ and the weight of ice on power lines could bring outages left & right ๐Ÿ’ก i hope everyone's prepared with warm clothes, hot chocolate, and a cozy place to ride it out ๐Ÿซ๐Ÿ˜Š

OMG, winter is literally coming for us! ๐ŸŒจ๏ธ๐Ÿฅถ This massive snowstorm is going to hit so many states, it's crazy! I'm talking 35 states, guys... that's like a whole country! ๐Ÿ˜ฒ And the worst part? The conditions are gonna be treacherous. Freezing rain, ice, and sleet are all in play, making driving conditions super sketchy.

I feel bad for everyone stuck at home or having to navigate through this mess. I hope all the snowplows can keep up with the demand, 'cause 45 of them is a lot! ๐Ÿ˜… And those temps? Brrr... -5 degrees Fahrenheit is no joke. Like, how are people even supposed to deal with that?

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for everyone in this storm's path. Stay safe, and may your power stay on, too! ๐Ÿ’ก๐Ÿ’•

๐ŸŒจ๏ธ This storm system is looking nasty ๐Ÿคฏ I'm worried about all those people stuck on the roads, it's not just snow they need to be careful about, it's ice too โ„๏ธ 2 feet of snow and icy conditions? That's a lot for anyone to handle. The weight of that ice can take down power lines and cause outages, which is just devastating ๐Ÿšจ I hope everyone stays safe and warm during this ordeal. It's days like these that remind us how powerful the weather can be โ˜ƒ๏ธ

dude ๐Ÿคฏ this is getting crazy! i'm thinking the government is gonna use this storm as an excuse to roll out some new surveillance tech or something... all these emergency declarations, it's like they're setting the stage for a major power outage or something. and what's with all the extreme cold warnings? 5 degrees Fahrenheit?! that's just plain crazy ๐Ÿ˜ฑ i'm not buying the whole "weather is unpredictable" narrative, there's gotta be some hidden agenda at play here...

๐ŸŒจ๏ธ this winter storm is looking super nasty lol i mean 45 snowplows at nashville and it's gonna be a mess out there i hope everyone stays safe and warm ๐Ÿโ„๏ธ the southern states are gonna get hit hard with both snow and ice that's not good news for anyone driving or trying to get around ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’จ

I'm tellin' ya, this winter storm is gonna be a doozy! I mean, 35 states? That's like, half the country or somethin' ๐Ÿ˜‚. I remember when I was a kid, we'd get snow and it'd be a big deal, but this stuff just keeps comin' and goin'. And now they're talkin' about freezing rain and ice accumulations... that's just nasty. I got an aunt in Texas who's already stranded on the side of the road because her car won't start ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ˜ฉ. And them snowplows, man... 45? That's a whole lotta shovelin' goin' on โ„๏ธ.

I'm worried about all these people out there, especially those folks in the South who are gonna be dealin' with both snow and ice. It's like, can't we just get a break from the weather for once? ๐Ÿคฃ I'm glad they're warnin' everyone to stay home and avoid drivin', 'cause that's just askin' for trouble. And them wind chills... 5 degrees Fahrenheit? That's colder than my grandma's heart โค๏ธ. Anyway, I hope everyone stays safe and warm out there. It's days like this that make me wanna just hunker down with a good book and a cup of hot cocoa โ˜•๏ธ.

ugh i hope everyone stays safe ๐Ÿคž this storm is looking super bad ๐ŸŒจ๏ธ its crazy how it can affect so many states and regions i remember when i was a kid living in new england we had some huge blizzards back then but nothing like this one it's like the whole country is under a blanket of snow โ„๏ธ i just hope everyone has enough food, water, and meds to last them till the storm passes ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿฅ my neighbor told me she's stockpiling supplies just in case ๐Ÿคฃ
