No Movement at the Top, Drama Ahead in Super 25 Showdowns
The top 12 teams in the Super 25 high school basketball rankings remain unchanged this week, with no movement expected among the top three. The highly anticipated Joe Henricksen's When Sides Collide Shootout on Saturday could finally bring some drama to the rankings. Top-ranked Benet faces off against Warren, second-seeded DePaul Prep takes on No. 7 Marist, and No. 9 Neuqua Valley squares off against No. 8 Bolingbrook in a thrilling doubleheader.
Newcomers Cary-Grove and Glenbrook North make their debut this week in the Super 25 rankings. Cary-Grove has been on the cusp of joining the rankings after its convincing win over Waukegan in November, and the Trojans have now won nine consecutive games. Glenbrook North's impressive undefeated record with wins against Deerfield, Maine South, and New Trier caught everyone off guard, as did their narrow 47-41 loss to Fremd at the Wheeling Hardwood Classic.
On the other hand, St. Laurence and New Trier have struggled this week after both losing two games each. The Trevians played well without Chris Kirkpatrick initially but hit a rough patch. St. Laurence's performance was also affected by the loss of their standout player.
The rankings are as follows:
1. Benet (20-1)
2. DePaul Prep (17-3)
3. Curie (18-1)
4. Kankakee (15-1)
5. St. Ignatius (19-2)
6. Warren (16-1)
7. Marist (18-2)
8. Bolingbrook (12-5)
9. Neuqua Valley (18-1)
10. Evanston (16-3)
11. Waukegan (15-5)
12. Homewood-Flossmoor (16-2)
The teams moving up the rankings include No. 13 Fremd, No. 14 Mount Carmel, and No. 15 Glenbard East. Loyola is still ranked at No. 16 despite its tough rivalry week ahead.
Rounds out the top 25 are Palatine, Young, Hersey, Kaneland, Glenbard North, York, Hillcrest, and Cary-Grove, who makes their debut in the rankings with a strong record of 18-2.
