New Yorkers should brace for a very chilly week, forecasters say

Frigid Temperatures Loom Over the Big Apple: Prepare for Uncomfortable Wake-Ups and Chilly Afternoons

New York residents can expect a prolonged period of frosty conditions, as a series of cold fronts are expected to sweep through the region this week. According to the National Weather Service, Monday night's temperatures will plummet into the teens, with wind chills making it feel like several degrees below zero.

Tuesday's forecast is similarly bleak, with highs in the lower 20s that will be felt even more sharply by the wind chill factor, rendering it as if temperatures had dipped into single digits and teens. As evening falls, high pressure will move overhead, bringing temperatures down further.

The weather service has cautioned against an uncomfortable week ahead, warning of "wake-up calls" that will make mid-week mornings particularly frigid. While temperatures are expected to rebound somewhat by Wednesday, with daytime highs in the 30s, Thursday's forecast is more mixed, with a chance of rain or snow showers adding to the uncertainty.

As the weekend approaches, cold fronts moving across the region on Thursday and Friday evening will bring frosty conditions once again. New York City Emergency Management has issued a warning, advising residents to prepare for life-threatening conditions, especially for those without proper winter gear or reliable heat indoors.

Residents are advised to limit their time outdoors, cover exposed skin when venturing out, and seek assistance from 311 if heat or hot water issues cannot be resolved with landlords. In a bid to support vulnerable populations, the city has also expanded outreach services to offer shelter to homeless individuals.

🤔 just saw this thread about the cold weather in NYC... honestly i'm kinda surprised it's taken them so long to warn people about it? i mean we're like 2 weeks into winter already 🎄 shouldn't they've had a plan in place by now? and now its life threatening conditions? that's crazy. and whats with all the rush on buying heaters and stuff online? can't they just provide better public transportation or something so ppl don't gotta be stuck outside for hours 🚫

omg just got my ❄️ alert 😱🌡️ thinking of stockpiling warm socks and gloves 4 the week ahead lol 💁‍♀️ anyone else ready for a chill week? 😒 cold fronts are no joke! 🚨 think i'm gonna be all bundled up like the Michelin man ☕️ just don't wanna risk those ❄️ temps 🤣 gotta stay toasty 🍫 hope everyone stays warm and cozy 💕

OMG, IT'S LIKE, ACHOO! 😷 this weather forecast is like the ultimate bummer, you know? I mean, who likes waking up in the teens and dealing with those crazy wind chills?! 🤣 and then Tuesday is like, woah, even worse, lower 20s, yikes! ❄️ they should just bring back those cute little snow boots or something 😂 i mean, i'm all about preparing for winter, but this sounds way too harsh, especially with that rain or snow shower thing on Thursday 🤔

anywayz, i gotta give props to NYC Emergency Management for looking out for the homeless folks and expanding those outreach services 💕 it's like, super necessary, you feel? 🙏 so yeah, just wanna make sure everyone's prepared for this cold snap ⬇️

I don't usually comment but... I feel bad for people who can't afford proper winter gear lol 😂. Like, how are they supposed to deal with freezing temps and windchills? It's one thing if you have a warm place to go, but what about those living on the streets? The city should consider setting up more shelters or warming centers ASAP 🚨.

And can we talk about how cold it gets at night? Like, I don't get why we even bother opening windows when it's freezing outside 😂. It's just gonna let all the chill in and make your place feel colder. Why not just keep those windows closed and enjoy the cozy vibes? 🤷‍♀️

Ugh, can't believe it's gonna be that cold this week 🥶! I hate waking up to subzero temps, like what even is the point of having blinds if you're just gonna freeze outside? And don't even get me started on having to shovel all that snow... 😩. Just when I thought spring was coming back, New York's got a brain freeze 😅. Poor homeless folks, gotta be super worried about getting proper shelter now too 🤝. Guess we'll just have to hibernate for the next few days until this cold front passes ❄️.
