Rosemont to be AUSL's Home Base: Chicago Bandits Return to Parkway Bank Sports Complex
The Athletes Unlimited Softball League (AUSL) has solidified its presence in Rosemont, Illinois, as the home city for several teams. Among them is the Chicago Bandits, a returning staple at the Parkway Bank Sports Complex, which also happens to be named after Olympic gold medalist Jennie Finch.
Rosemont's association with softball predates AUSL's formation, having hosted events during Athletes Unlimited Softball Launch in 2020. With its newly announced hosting schedule, Rosemont has secured a place for itself as a hub for the sport. The AUSL teams will compete in six cities nationwide: Durham, North Carolina; Oklahoma City; Hillsboro, Oregon; Round Rock, Texas; and Salt Lake City.
AUSL Commissioner Kim Ng notes that these partnerships are crucial for establishing trust with local communities. "Moments like that, you have an understanding of the resonance of what we're providing, of what the athletes are providing," she said in a phone interview. "It really holds in that community."
The Chicago Bandits will open their season on the road and return to Rosemont for their home opener on June 13 against the Oklahoma City Spark. The team will also host a mid-season All-Star Cup event at Parkway Bank Sports Complex from August 8-30.
Jennie Finch, an Olympic gold and silver medalist who played for the original Chicago Bandits from 2005 to 2010, now serves as an AUSL advisor. Her involvement in the league's design phase and its ongoing growth has been instrumental, according to Ng. The Chicago area's strong connection to softball is evident in the team's return, with Finch's name being synonymous with excellence in the sport.
The AUSL aims to become a pillar of each community it enters, providing support and enthusiasm for athletes across regions. With Rosemont firmly entrenched as its home base, the league is poised for continued success, offering fans an exciting experience in softball's newest iteration.
