Surgeon accused of operating while intoxicated gets license temporarily suspended: Medical board

A Texas Plastic Surgeon's License Temporarily Suspended Amid Accusations of Operating Under the Influence.

The Texas Medical Board has taken swift action, temporarily suspending the state license of plastic surgeon Azul Shiraz Jaffer following his arrest in December for allegedly performing surgery on a patient while intoxicated. The suspension took effect immediately on December 30, with medical board members deeming Dr. Jaffer a threat to patients due to his alleged long-standing use of drugs and alcohol.

According to the Medical Board's release, their investigation revealed that Dr. Jaffer's substance abuse issues compromise his ability to practice medicine safely. As a result, the board has announced plans for a temporary suspension hearing with 10 days' notice to be held at a later date, although Dr. Jaffer can opt out of the hearing if he so chooses.

It is worth noting that when Dr. Jaffer was arrested on December 22, his medical license was still active, but Houston Methodist Sugar Land had subsequently suspended his privileges following an investigation into the accusations against him.

Ugh, this just makes me so mad 🀯! Can't believe some doctor out there thinks they can get away with putting lives at risk like that... I mean, what is wrong with these medical boards? They're supposed to be protecting people, not just covering their own behinds. And now this guy's practice is basically shut down already... 10 days till a hearing? That's still way too long for someone who's potentially put patients in harm's way πŸ€”. What if they can't even get that right?

πŸ€” I mean, I'm not surprised to hear about this news. It's like, no one is immune to mistakes, right? Even with all these fancy technology advancements and AI-powered everything, we still have people who can't even get themselves together long enough to perform a simple surgery without booze 🍻. I'm not saying the Medical Board is being too harsh or anything, but I do think they're on to something here. If someone's going to be operating on you, shouldn't that person be in the clear-headed state? It just seems like common sense to me... πŸ™„

just think about it... a doc who's supposed to fix your face and body problems ends up breaking himself 🀯 how many patients were affected by this one? and what about all those procedures he must've done under the influence?! scary thought. shouldn't we just double check for substance abuse issues before letting someone get licensed in the first place? it's not like it's a secret, right? or maybe it is... anyway, hope everything gets sorted out and patients can trust their docs again πŸ’‰

πŸ€• this is a total bummer for everyone involved! I mean, you gotta prioritize patient safety above all else, and it sounds like Dr. Jaffer just wasn't in the right headspace to be performing surgery 🚨. his license suspension might actually end up being a blessing in disguise, allowing him to get some help and turn his life around 🌈. but seriously, how did this even happen? it's crazy that someone could perform surgery under the influence of drugs or booze – no wonder the medical board stepped in ASAP πŸ’ͺ!

I'm shocked that a plastic surgeon's license getting suspended due to being drunk during surgery isn't considered a major win for public safety πŸ™„. I mean, who needs proof of addiction and a history of substance abuse before stripping someone of their livelihood? It's like they're saying "you might be a drunk surgeon, but we trust you not to kill anyone... yet". Give the guy a break, I'm sure he didn't actually perform any major surgery while intoxicated πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. And can we talk about how unfair it is that his medical license was still active when he got arrested? It's like they were just waiting for someone to catch him in the act πŸ˜’.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this one 🀯... so Azul Shiraz Jaffer is a plastic surgeon who's been accused of doing surgery while drunk? Like, how does that even happen in real life? And what's even more crazy is that he was able to perform surgeries on patients for years without anyone noticing or complaining? I guess you could say the medical board did their due diligence and finally stepped in. But now that his license is suspended, who's gonna cover all those surgeries that were supposed to happen while he's 'indisposed'? I'm no doctor, but it seems like a big mess right now πŸš‘πŸ’‰

πŸ€” I don't think it's fair to label someone as a "threat" just because they've got some personal issues. I mean, we all have our struggles, right? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Azul Shiraz Jaffer's a brilliant surgeon in his own right, and one mistake doesn't define him. He's already lost his privileges at Houston Methodist Sugar Land, but is the medical board really gonna strip him of his license for life over this? That seems harsh to me 😐. I think we need to give people second chances before we start jumping to conclusions about their competence as a professional πŸ€”. Maybe Dr Jaffer needs some help getting back on track, rather than being demonized by the media πŸ“°.

man, this is crazy 🀯! can't believe some ppl r more concerned about lookin good than bein safe! i mean, how hard is it to not drink on the job when u're a surgeon? πŸ˜‚ apparently, it's harder than you think for some people πŸ™„. temp suspension is great 1st step tho, now lets hope they take away his license 4 good 🀞. its scary thinkin about all these other docs out there who might be doin the same thing 🚨. need to make sure doctors r held accountable 4 their actions πŸ’―.

I'm really worried about this doc's future πŸ€•... I mean, can you imagine if someone's operating under the influence and you're the one on the table? It's a nightmare scenario come true! The fact that he was able to keep his license active despite his substance abuse issues is just plain concerning. I think it's great that the medical board is taking action and suspending his privileges for now, but let's hope this doc gets the help he needs ASAP 🀞. It's a harsh reality check, but we need to prioritize patient safety above all else in the medical field πŸ’‰

πŸ€” This is crazy! I mean, how can someone who's clearly out of control get away with doing surgery? Like, what kind of surgeon shows up to work drunk? 🍻 And now they're threatening Dr. Jaffer's license? That's gonna have serious consequences for his patients... or lack thereof. πŸ’‰ I want to know more about this investigation tho... how did the Medical Board figure out he'd been partying while on duty? Were there witnesses? Did someone report him? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ Also, is 10 days' notice really enough time to prepare for a hearing after just being arrested? Sounds like a rush job to me. 😬

OMG, I'm like totally shocked 😱 that a plastic surgeon would even think they can do surgery while wasted πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ! I mean, come on, it's not just about them, it's about the patients too 🀝. They're literally putting people's lives at risk by operating under the influence πŸ‘€. And what really gets me is that this dude had a license active and was still practicing 🚫? That's some serious negligence right there πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ.

I'm glad the Medical Board stepped in ASAP πŸ’ͺ and took action, but I do wish they would've done it sooner ⏱️. The fact that he was able to continue operating for so long is just crazy 😲. And yeah, Houston Methodist Sugar Land did the right thing by suspending his privileges too πŸ‘. Safety first, you know? πŸ’―

πŸ˜• this is just not good at all... I mean, you're a surgeon, you're supposed to be in control of yourself and your patients, let alone performing surgery under the influence 🀯 what's even more disturbing is that he's been doing this for a while, apparently πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ substance abuse issues are no joke, and it's amazing that the medical board was able to catch on before someone got hurt πŸ’‰πŸš‘ it's just common sense, really... shouldn't we expect more from our healthcare professionals? πŸ™„

Man, this whole thing just hits you hard... like, a doctor's license isn't just about doing surgery, it's about putting your patients' trust in your hands and being responsible with power... The fact that someone can get so reckless, you know? Like, what goes through his mind when he's operating on someone who's counting on him to fix their life, but he's struggling with addiction himself? It's just a huge failure of self-awareness and accountability... 🀯

OMG, this is crazy!!! Like, who does that?! 🀯 I'm so glad the Medical Board stepped in ASAP to protect their patients... Dr. Jaffer's actions are just not okay and I hope he gets the help he needs 🀞. This is a huge reminder of how important it is for our healthcare professionals to prioritize patient safety above all else πŸ’Š. And can we talk about how scary it must be for his patients who had no idea what was going on?! 😱 Sending all the love and support to those affected πŸ’•.

OMG, like, this is seriously disturbing news! 🀯 A plastic surgeon's license being temporarily suspended due to operating under the influence is just unacceptable. I mean, think about all those patients who trusted Dr. Jaffer with their lives... 😱 The fact that he allegedly performed surgery on a patient while intoxicated is just mind-boggling. #MedicalMalpractice #SafetyFirst

And can we talk about how this happened? Like, wasn't his license already suspended by Houston Methodist Sugar Land after an investigation? πŸ€” It's like, what was the Medical Board waiting for? They need to be more vigilant in keeping patients safe! πŸ’‰ #AccountabilityMatters #ProtectPatients

I'm all for second chances, but not when it comes to something as serious as surgery. Dr. Jaffer needs to get his life together and prove that he's capable of practicing medicine safely again before we can even consider reinstating his license. Fingers crossed! 🀞 #GetItTogether #MedicalPractice

🀯 I mean, what's next? A brain surgeon high-fiving with a patient mid-procedure? πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ This whole thing is wild to me, you know? I don't think it's just about Dr. Jaffer being reckless or whatever – it's about the fact that he was able to get away with operating under the influence for so long. Like, how many lives were at risk? πŸ’‰ It's crazy that it took a arrest and some good old-fashioned investigative work by the Medical Board to finally crack down on him.

I also think this is a bigger deal than just "oh no, another doctor got busted." I mean, people are trusting these docs with their health and well-being. They should be able to know they're in good hands, you feel? πŸ’• Not exactly what you'd call a reassuring vibe when you hear about some doc getting caught up in substance abuse.

And can we talk for a sec about the fact that he was still practicing medicine while having this issue? Like, did nobody notice anything? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ It's like there were blinders on or something. Okay, maybe I'm being dramatic, but it just seems super concerning to me. 😬

man this is crazy 🀯 a plastic surgeon gettin all sloppy with the sauce and now he's gonna have to deal with the consequences... temp suspension from the med board is a pretty big deal, i guess u can't just be a drunk doc and expect to still do surgeries 🚫. it's not like he was the first one to ever do this stuff, but still... the fact that his medical license was already active when he got arrested is wild πŸ€”. i feel bad for the patient who had to go through all this drama πŸ’‰πŸ˜·. u would think that with all the stress of surgery and whatnot, docs would be more responsible with their substances... guess not in this case 😐.
