Bengal SIR Tribunals May Take 12 Years to Decide on Appeals The Election Commission's recent affidavit before the Supreme Court has exposed the staggering scale of the backlog in West Bengal's appellate tribunals, established to resolve disputes over voters removed from electoral rolls after a special revision exercise.
The numbers are daunting: more than 37 lakh pending cases, with an average of 25,238 decisions per month since April this year.
At this pace, it would take the tribunals approximately 146 months – or nearly 12 years – to clear the current backlog.
