this is just so heartbreaking thinking about all these people who lost their lives in such extreme weather conditions... it's like they're invisible, ya know? 90-year-old Doreen Ellis was a pillar in her community and had dementia, but still ended up wandering out into the snow to freeze. what can we do to help these people who are struggling with just surviving on a daily basis? I mean, outreach services are trying, but it's just not enough... we need more permanent solutions, like affordable housing and trust rebuilding in our community.

I mean, we all know winter storms are coming but how many of us are actually prepared? Our city needs more than just temporary measures to help those struggling with homelessness or underlying conditions. We need permanent solutions like affordable housing and trust rebuilding . The fact that outreach workers have to check on 350 people every two hours is just staggering... what about the ones who don't show up on their lists? Mayor Mamdani's warnings are clear, but we need more than just a "look out for your neighbors" message when so many lives are literally at risk in extreme cold . We should all be doing more to help those in need, not just during the winter months, but year-round

OMG, this is so sad... I mean, I know people with dementia and it's hard enough when they just forget where they put their keys but I never thought about them going out into the snow like this. It's crazy how hypothermia can happen even in low temps

I'm all for the outreach workers checking on vulnerable folks every two hours, but you're right, we need more permanent solutions too Like, let's get those homeless people into stable housing already! And trust building? Yeah, that's a big one... we can't just keep putting Band-Aids on it

I mean, I'm not saying the mayor isn't doing enough, but what if we have more warming centers and more outreach workers to really make a difference? And can we please get some better public awareness campaigns to educate people about this stuff? This is just so sad for Doreen Ellis's family
