3 arrested, including 2 juveniles after South Chicago police shooting during stolen car investigation

Chicago Police Shooting Sparks Arrests and Investigation.

A tense standoff in the South Chicago neighborhood ended with gunfire, as police officers confronted a stolen vehicle on Thursday morning. The driver attempted to flee, striking a squad car and prompting one of the occupants to abandon the vehicle and run away, brandishing a firearm.

In response, a Chicago police officer fired their weapon, but fortunately no one was injured in the shooting. Two minors and an adult male were subsequently arrested at the scene, along with two firearms recovered from the stolen vehicle.

A juvenile, who is in good condition despite sustaining scrapes to their hands, was taken to Comer Children's Hospital for treatment.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability will be investigating this incident. The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave for 30 days as a standard procedure.

No police officers were injured during the shooting, although one officer did require observation at a hospital following the incident.

😬 "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." - Edmund Burke πŸ€”

I'm genuinely worried about these young folks getting involved in stuff they shouldn't be. Like, what's going on with our youth? One minute they're playing video games and chillin', the next they're behind bars or worse... 🚨 It's just not a good vibe, you know? We need to find ways to engage them positively, get 'em out of that life before it's too late. 🀞

πŸ€” just wondering why they had to make it so intense... like a standoff in the middle of the day? was that really necessary tho? 🚨 and can we talk about how messed up it is that some minors got hurt bad enough to need a hospital visit πŸ₯ but still managed to run around brandishing a gun after getting away from the car? πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ also, 30 days on admin leave sounds kinda standard for officers involved in a shooting tho... does anyone know what they did wrong that's causing this investigation? πŸ•΅οΈβ€β™‚οΈ

not surprised πŸ€”. another case where people think they can just speed off and threaten an officer. 2 minors and an adult, who's gonna take responsibility for their actions? and what's up with the abandoned firearm? shouldn't that've been found during the initial search of the vehicle? also, a juvenile gets to go to Comer Children's Hospital... good luck getting treatment for that scrapes πŸ€•. 30 days on admin leave seems reasonable though.

im not surprised about another cop-shooting incident... it's like they're just waiting for something to go wrong. i mean, two minors got hurt and they still had to shoot... shouldn't there be other ways to resolve these situations? πŸ€” anyway, at least no officers were injured, which is a good thing... but this whole process still feels super rushed. administrative leave for 30 days is pretty standard protocol, but what about the actual investigation? will it uncover any real issues or just sweep everything under the rug? we need to make sure that these authorities are held accountable... πŸš”πŸ’₯

You know, it's crazy how these incidents always seem to play out in a way that sparks debate about policing and community trust πŸ€”. I mean, on one hand, you gotta admire the bravery of that cop who took down the suspect with his firearm - it could've gone either way, and he made the right call. On the other hand, we gotta ask ourselves if this kind of response is really what we're aiming for in our communities πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ.

And let's not forget about the kids involved here - a juvenile who gets hurt just because they were riding around with some bad eggs? It's like, what's the message we're sending to our young people when we respond to this kind of situation with force rather than understanding and empathy? 🀝 We need to be having these kinds of conversations about how we build trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve.

It's also worth noting that the fact that two firearms were recovered from the stolen vehicle is just another reason why we need better background checks and gun control laws in this country πŸ’β€β™€οΈ. I mean, it's one thing to protect ourselves from harm, but not at the expense of our children's safety and well-being πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ.

man dis is crazy what's goin on in chicago rn i feel bad for da juveniles got arrested but dey was just tryna get away from da cops ugh da police accountability office gotta get to da bottom of dis tho 30 days on admin leave seems like a decent start tho hopefully it leads to some real changes

This is crazy 🀯! A car chase that leads to a shootout? It's like something out of a movie, but not in a good way 😬. I'm glad no one was seriously hurt, but two minors got arrested? That's just too much. The system needs to do better to help kids who get caught up in this stuff πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ.

And what's with the police officer who fired their gun? Were they really in fear for their life or was it just a routine traffic stop gone wrong? We need more answers πŸ’‘. This incident is a reminder that our communities are still dealing with a lot of issues, but we can't give up hope 🌟. Let's work towards creating safer, better futures for everyone πŸ‘.

OMG, I'm still trying to wrap my head around this... like, two minors and an adult just walking away from a shootout with cops? 🀯 It's crazy! I don't even know what's more disturbing, the fact that they were armed or that they thought it was okay to take off with a stolen car in the first place.

I'm not saying the police didn't have a reason to react, but still... this could've ended so much worse. I keep thinking about the little kid who got taken to the hospital - what if he had gotten hurt? πŸ€• And now they're having to deal with all this drama because of some reckless decision.

And can we talk about how this is just another example of why we need to work on our community and policing relations? It's not just about enforcing laws, it's about keeping people safe and building trust... sigh.

πŸ€” I'm seeing so many conflicting emotions on social media about this incident... some folks are furious that no one was seriously hurt, while others are worried about the safety of our law enforcement 🚨πŸ’ͺ. As someone who's trying to stay informed and empathetic, I think it's essential to acknowledge that we don't have all the facts just yet.

Can we take a step back and consider the complexity of this situation? We know the driver attempted to flee, which could've put innocent lives at risk. At the same time, police officers are trained to respond in crisis situations – did they follow protocol? Were there any mitigating circumstances that led up to this point?

I'm not looking to assign blame just yet πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ... but I do think it's crucial we have a thorough investigation and keep the lines of communication open between law enforcement, community leaders, and our local hospitals. We want to make sure everyone feels heard and supported πŸ’•πŸŒŽ

OMG, like what's up with these stolen vehicles? It's like they're on some wild joyride πŸ˜‚. But seriously, glad no one was hurt, that would've been super messed up πŸ’”. Those kids were just trying to get away, poor little souls πŸ€—. And two firearms found in the car? That's just a recipe for disaster πŸ”«. I hope the investigation finds out what really went down and gets to the bottom of it πŸ‘€. But 30 days on admin leave already? Guess that's just standard procedure πŸ™„. Can't say I'd want to be on the receiving end of a squad car πŸ˜…. And poor kid getting taken to the hospital, hope they're okay 🀞.

I'm getting so tired of these forum discussions where everyone's just jumping to conclusions without knowing all the facts 🀯. I mean, I get that we want answers and justice for the victims, but can't we take a step back and actually read the news before we start ranting? This shooting sounds like a real mess - a stolen car, people running around with guns, and cops doing what they do best: responding to the situation. And yeah, the officer's gun went off, but it's not like he was trying to target innocent bystanders or anything. Still, I'm all for an investigation, just so we can get some clarity on what really happened here πŸ€”.

And honestly, I'm more concerned about the minors who got arrested - two of them were hurt pretty badly and had to go to the hospital πŸ˜•. That's not something you should ever have to deal with, especially when it's because of a stupid car chase gone wrong.

I gotta say, I'm not surprised by this latest cop-shooting incident πŸ€”. It's like a bad movie script – you got your car chase, your abandoned vehicle, and then BAM! Gunfire erupts. Like, what's the protocol here? Can't we just defuse these situations without resorting to violence? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

And two minors get arrested because of it? That's just harsh, you feel? They were probably just caught up in a bad situation and didn't know any better. And now they're facing serious charges? It's like the system is too quick to punish without considering all the facts πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ.

And don't even get me started on the police accountability part... 30 days on administrative leave? That's not enough time for a thorough investigation, in my opinion. I hope the Civilian Office of Police Accountability can get to the bottom of this and make some real changes πŸ’―.

idk why we're still in a cycle where someone tries to flee from cops and things get violent... πŸ€” like, can't we all just talk it out or something?

i guess the fact that no one was seriously hurt is good news, but still... two minors were taken to the hospital with scrapes. it's not exactly a great start for kids trying to make their mark in life. πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ

and yeah, the COPA investigating and officers on administrative leave is standard procedure, i guess it's just a reminder that even when things seem intense, we gotta follow protocol... πŸ•°οΈ
