ABC13 Weather Alert: Ice and Winter Storm Warnings begin with freezing rain expected overnight

A potent storm system is barreling towards Southeast Texas, threatening to unleash a significant amount of ice and freezing rain across the region overnight. As temperatures hover just above freezing in the mid-upper 30s, a layer of arctic air will spread across the area, bringing with it a high risk of freezing rain, sleet, and potentially hazardous travel conditions.

By Saturday night, the freeze line is expected to drape into Harris County, including Houston, around midnight. However, this will coincide with another round of precipitation that could mix up rain, freezing rain, and sleet, leading to significant disruptions on roads and sidewalks. Ice accumulations are likely to occur, causing tree damage, power outages, and hazardous travel conditions.

While some areas might make it above freezing along and south of I-10 as the sun shines through on Sunday morning, temperatures will plummet into the 20s by Monday morning, setting up a prolonged period of cold. Extreme Cold Warnings are now in effect for Southeast Texas through Tuesday, with another hard freeze expected to hit on Monday night.

Residents can expect up to half an inch of ice in some areas and two-tenths of an inch in others, leading to the potential for power outages, tree damage, and travel hazards. A hard freeze is coming for nearly all of Southeast Texas Sunday night and into Monday morning, bringing temperatures below freezing and icy conditions that will persist through the day.

The cold air is not just a nuisance; it poses a serious threat to infrastructure and public health. The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Cold Warning due to wind chills expected in some areas, with wind chill factors potentially dipping below zero on Monday morning.

While temperatures are forecasted to climb above freezing by Monday, another hard freeze on Tuesday is possible, followed by a light freeze on Wednesday morning. For now, it's essential for everyone in the region to take precautions to protect themselves and their properties from the cold.

Residents are advised to prepare for extended power outages, stay warm, and plan for potential disruptions over the next few days.

Just another excuse to bust out the hot chocolate 🍫❄️! Seriously though, extreme cold is no joke, gotta take precautions or risk getting caught in a bad situation 😬

Ugh, this is just getting ridiculous! A whole zone of freezing rain and ice on the way... I'm talking like, tree branches snapping left and right, cars stuck everywhere... and don't even get me started on power outages... my grandpa had that last year and he was literally shivering to death in his own house. How's someone supposed to keep warm then? And what about all the poor animals caught outside? I mean, this is just so cold it feels like winter or something! 🥶😩

I'm low-key freaking out about this storm 🤯! I mean, I know it's gonna be bad, but come on... half an inch of ice? That's a bummer for all us Texans who aren't used to dealing with that kinda chill 😂. And don't even get me started on the power outages, we can't afford to lose our internet 💻. What if we gotta cancel plans or something? That'd be a real hassle 🤦‍♂️. I'm just hoping the roads don't get too bad and we can still get around 🚗. Stay warm everyone, we'll get through this ❄️!

Ugh, great, just what we need, another reason to hate winter 🤦‍♀️. I mean, who doesn't love being woken up in the middle of the night by your heater kicking in because it's 30 degrees outside? And don't even get me started on the whole ice accumulating thing... like we haven't seen that enough already ❄️. Anyway, I guess it's good that people are getting a heads up about the potential disruptions, but can we just fast forward to when it all passes and we can go back to not having to shovel our driveways again? 🙄

Ugh I'm so not ready for this 😩! Freeze warnings are always a hassle... remember that time in 2014 when Texas went through like a month of winter? I was stuck at home with no power for days 🤒. This storm system is looking super intense, ice accumulations could be a real problem for our trees and power lines. Hopefully everyone's prepared for the worst and has some warm blankets on hand 😊

I'm getting a chill down my spine thinking about this one... 🥶 like they say, "weather forecast" is a serious business! with temperatures hovering around 30s and arctic air on the move, it's gonna be a tough day for southeast texas, especially houstonites. half an inch of ice? that's no joke. power outages, tree damage... what can we do to stay safe? stock up on snacks and water, maybe even some flashlights, just in case 🤞

Umm... I think they're gonna say we should be all like "oh no, let's prep for this" but at the same time, like, isn't it kinda cool that the arctic air is bringing some much-needed chill to the region? 🤔❄️ I mean, don't get me wrong, power outages and tree damage are bad, but... but... have you seen those temps gonna drop into the 20s? That's like, winter wonderland right there! 😂 But wait, no it's not. We gotta take precautions because of wind chills and stuff. Like, I get it, our infrastructure can't handle this kinda cold. But still, can't we just... enjoy the chill a bit? 🤷‍♀️😒

Ugh, I'm literally shaking just thinking about this storm system barreling towards Southeast Texas 🥶. The thought of freezing rain and sleet hitting Houston is giving me anxiety, you know? 🤯 I mean, who wants to drive around in icy conditions or risk power outages and tree damage? Not me, that's for sure 😩. And the worst part is, it's not just a matter of slapping on some hot cocoa and waiting it out – we're talking about serious infrastructure threats here 🚧. Wind chill factors potentially dipping below zero?! That's just scary 💔. Can't wait until Monday morning when things supposedly warm up (ha!), but for now, let's all just try to stay safe and cozy 🏠💕.
