“Abolish ICE” Is More Popular Than Ever. How Will Democrats Drop the Ball This Time?

A growing number of Americans are now calling for the complete dismantling of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency, with support reaching a historic high. This shift in public opinion comes amidst the tragic killing of Renee Good by an ICE agent, as well as reports of widespread arrests and violent crackdowns on communities deemed "undesirable" by the Trump administration.

Contrary to expectations, Democrats have shown little enthusiasm for the idea of abolishing ICE, instead opting for incremental reforms that many see as inadequate. The party's reluctance to take a strong stance on this issue is alarming given the growing public outcry and protests against the agency's actions.

A recent poll conducted by The Economist/YouGov found that 46 percent of respondents support abolishing ICE, compared to just 43 percent who oppose it. Notably, this shift in opinion cuts across party lines, with a significant portion of conservatives now backing the abolition of ICE.

It is evident that Democrats are struggling to adapt to this changing public sentiment. Their reluctance to take bold action against ICE comes at a time when the agency's authoritarian actions and anti-immigrant rhetoric have galvanized opposition across the country.

To capitalize on this momentum, Democratic leaders must be willing to abandon their timid approach in favor of more substantial reforms that align with the growing demands of the American people. By doing so, they can demonstrate their commitment to protecting human rights, upholding democratic values, and standing against authoritarianism.

Ultimately, it is time for Democrats to seize the initiative on this issue and take a bold stance against ICE's destructive policies. Anything less would be a betrayal of the public's trust and an abandonment of the fundamental principles that underpin American democracy.

ICE has been causing so much pain & suffering... 🤕 it's crazy how one person can make such a huge impact on people's lives like Renee Good did. I think what's really important here is to recognize that there are many people who care deeply about justice & compassion, but might not know where to start or feel empowered to take action. That's why it's so crucial for Democrats to lead the charge & show us all what bold reform looks like 🌟

I think Democrats are totally overreacting here 🤔, 46% is still a far cry from total abolition... I mean, come on, who exactly is gonna take care of all those border crossings and immigration issues? And what's with this "authoritarian actions" nonsense, ICE has just been doing their job (or so they claim) for decades... a little reform doesn't hurt anyone 🤑. And let's be real, most conservatives aren't backing ICE abolition because it's actually the right thing to do, but 'cause some lefties are getting on their case about it 😒.

manICE has been such a polarizing agency for so long, but now it feels like ppl are finally waking up to its real impact 🤯. I'm glad to see more ppl across party lines agreeing that something needs to change 💪. It's crazy that Democrats aren't being more aggressive on this issue tho - they need to step up their game if they wanna be taken seriously again 😒.

Man I'm telling you...ICE has been around for like forever, but it's only now that people are really waking up to its messiness 🤯. I mean, 46% support abolishing the thing? That's crazy! And conservatives are backing it too? It just goes to show how far we've come as a country. But you know what's even crazier? Democrats not taking bold action on this stuff. They're all like "incremental reforms"...gag me 😒. We need real change, folks! The public is screaming for it and if our leaders can't listen, then who can? 🤷‍♂️

this is crazy how people are just now speaking out against ice, i mean we've been hearing about these awful stories for years but nothing ever seems to change 🤯...the fact that 46% of ppl actually want ice abolished is wild, and the fact that conservatives are on board too is even more mind-blowing 😲...democrats need to step up their game and show some real leadership on this one, like what's taking so long for them to make a move? 🕰️...the public is getting restless and it's time for them to take action 💪

I just had the most intense discussion with my classmates about this whole ICE thing, you know? We were all like "what's going on with our country?" I mean, I get why people want to abolish it, especially after what happened to Renee Good 🤕... like, how can we even justify treating people that way? And now it seems like a lot of conservatives are on board too which is wild. My friend Emma who's studying abroad is all about this because she's seen firsthand how ICE affects communities... her friends' families have been separated and stuff. Anyway, I think the Dems need to get their act together and take some real action instead of just saying they're gonna "reform" it. Like, what even does that mean? We need concrete changes and not just empty promises 🙄

I gotta say, I'm surprised that more people aren't demanding the complete overhaul of ICE yet 🤯. The fact that it's getting to this point in terms of public opinion is crazy, and I think it's awesome that conservatives are starting to come around too. It's about time for Democrats to stop playing it safe and take a real stance on this issue 👊. I mean, we all know how ICE has been treating people, it's not right and it needs to change ASAP 🚫. Incremental reforms ain't gonna cut it anymore - we need drastic changes that actually prioritize human rights over politics 💪.

omg i'm so down with this!! 46% of ppl think ice is toxic lol i was like yaaas when Renee Good passed away, it was such a senseless tragedy 🤕💔 and now ppl are finally speaking out against this agency's wrongdoings! i feel for dems tho, they're tryin to navigate this complex issue but it's clear the public is NOT on their side 🤷‍♀️💁‍♀️. Dems gotta step up & show us they care about human rights & democracy 💪🌎

🚨 46% of Americans now think ICE should be abolished 🤯, which is crazy considering how much Trump loved him some immigration control 😂. On a serious note, did you see that poll from The Economist/YouGov? It's not just libs who are on board with abolishing ICE, conservatives too! 👥 43% still oppose it tho. This public outcry against ICE's actions is getting real and I think Dems should take note 📝. Incremental reforms ain't gonna cut it anymore 💪. We need bold action to protect human rights and stand up against authoritarianism 🌎. Can't have our leaders just 'talk' about change without taking concrete steps 💬. Time for a new strategy, Dem leadership 👊.

🤔 I'm kinda surprised to see so many Americans wanting to get rid of ICE, especially after all the stuff they've done in the past... like, what changed? Is it just Renee Good's tragic death making people wake up and realize how messed up ICE is? 🙅‍♀️ I also don't get why Democrats aren't being more aggressive about this - isn't protecting human rights kinda a priority for them? 🤷‍♂️ It feels like they're playing it too safe, which is frustrating when the public is getting so vocal about their concerns. What do you think would be a good way for Democrats to address this issue without alienating anyone? 💬

ICE gotta go 💔🚫, like for real tho. I mean, 46% support abolishin' it? That's lowball. The way they been treatin' people, especially in communities of color, is straight outta a bad movie 🎥. Democrats say they wanna reform, but reforms that just fix the symptoms not the disease don't cut it 🤦‍♀️.

I'm all for incremental changes, but if you're not gonna take down the whole system, what's the point? You gotta stand up to ICE and show 'em who's boss 💪. The public is on their side, and Democrats need to step up or get left behind 👀. Abolishin' ICE would be a major win for human rights and democracy, period 🙌.

I'm still re-reading that poll result from The Economist/YouGov 🤯, 46% support abolishing ICE? That's crazy! I was saying earlier in this thread, when we were discussing the Renee Good case, how ICE's actions are just not right 💔. And now it seems like people are finally starting to wake up and demand change. But, what's with Democrats being all slow on the uptake? 🤦‍♂️ I was saying last week, about those incremental reforms... they're just not gonna cut it anymore 👎. We need some real, bold action here!

ICE needs to go 🚫💥 I mean, have you seen those videos of them raiding apartments in the middle of the night? It's so reckless and scary. My aunt has a cousin who got caught up in one of these raids and had to fly back to Mexico for like 6 months. It was such a nightmare for her. Anyway, it's about time we do something about this. The poll numbers are crazy - 46% want ICE gone? That's huge! We need some real action from the Democrats, not just more of the same old incremental reforms. They're gonna lose voters if they don't take a stand on this one 💪

I'm so done with ICE! 🚫💔 They're basically doing their own thing, ignoring the law and just causing chaos wherever they go. I mean, Renee Good was just another innocent person caught in the crossfire... it's just not right. The fact that some people still support the agency is like, what's going on? 🤯 Democrats need to step up and take control of this situation before things get out of hand. We need real change, not just Band-Aid fixes. Incremental reforms aren't gonna cut it - we need a full-on overhaul of the system. The people are speaking out, and it's time for our leaders to listen! 💪

🤔 I'm not surprised that more ppl are calling for ICE's dismantling, what with all those reports of brutal arrests & police violence towards Latinx communities 🚨💥 40% is a big chunk of Americans who wanna abolish the agency, and it's crazy how even some conservatives are on board now 🤝 Democrats should really take this momentum & make some real changes instead of just tweaking the system 👀
