Respawn's Decision to End Support for Original Nintendo Switch Ahead of Schedule
Respite is short-lived for players of Apex Legends on the Nintendo Switch. The popular battle royale game, developed by Respawn Entertainment, will lose support for its original version on the console this summer with the release of Season 30. What's more, the move marks an abrupt shift in the company's stance - future seasons will now be playable on both the newer Switch 2 model and other supported platforms, but not the older Switch 1.
As per the announcement made by Respawn on X, season 29 will serve as the final update for Apex Legends on the original Nintendo Switch. This means that players have several months left to continue playing the game on their consoles, with a planned cutoff date of August 4, 2026. For those who plan to upgrade to the newer Switch 2 model or switch (no pun intended) to other supported platforms, their progress, purchases, and earnings will be tied to their individual EA accounts.
It is worth noting that Respawn has confirmed that all progress made on the original Switch will carry over to the new Switch 2 model. However, for those who upgrade later, they may need to redo some of their progress due to the change in hardware.
