Apple TV signs TV and movie deal for Brandon Sanderson's fantasy books

Apple TV has secured an unprecedented deal with renowned fantasy author Brandon Sanderson, granting him creative control over film and television adaptations of his popular Cosmere series. According to sources, the arrangement includes not only feature films but also TV shows based on some of Sanderson's most beloved works.

Sanderson, known for his epic high-fantasy and science fiction novels, has long expressed a desire to bring one of his projects to life as a standout film – a "really good Mistborn" movie, in particular. And now, thanks to the deal, that dream is set to become a reality. With major creative control at play, Sanderson will be heavily involved in writing, producing, and consulting on these adaptations.

The extent of Sanderson's involvement sets his deal apart from those of other prominent authors, including George R.R. Martin, who recently recounted an experience with showrunner Ryan Condal, who allegedly stopped taking notes and suggestions into account. In contrast, Sanderson is poised to have a significant say in the development process, allowing for potentially innovative interpretations of his work.

The Cosmere universe, which encompasses dozens of interconnected books across various worlds and timelines, will be featured prominently in these adaptations. With a shared creation myth underlying its diverse magical systems, fans are eagerly anticipating how this vast universe will be represented on screen.

While specifics on release dates and production details have yet to be announced by Apple TV, it's clear that the deal represents an exciting new chapter for Sanderson's work. The company has secured a producer for "The Stormlight Archive" TV series, further underscoring its commitment to bringing this beloved Cosmere universe to life.

omg I'm so hyped about Brandon Sanderson getting creative control over his books on apple tv!!! 🤩 like I've read all the mistborn books like 5 times and it's always been my fave series... I wonder if they'll do justice to the stormlight archive too? has anyone else watched anything good on their service lately? btw, have you guys tried those new pokemon games for switch? 😊

idk about this... Brandon Sanderson getting creative control over his own stuff sounds like a recipe for disaster 🤔. what's to stop him from ruining the whole thing? and how much of a say do we really have in these adaptations, anyway? is apple tv just gonna greenlight whatever sanderson wants no matter how bad it might be? 🤑 need more info on this one before i get too hyped 💡

🤔 I'm low-key hyped about this deal but also kinda concerned... like, how much creative control is too much? Sanderson's getting major input, which is awesome, but what happens if Apple TV starts screwing up the adaptation? We've seen it happen with other authors. I need to see some behind-the-scenes pics or interviews before I get on board 📸

Also, have they considered casting a diverse range of actors for these roles? The Cosmere universe has so many cultures and species... I don't want to see another whitewashing situation 🙅‍♂️. Sources say Apple TV's got a producer lined up for "The Stormlight Archive" series, which is a plus! Fingers crossed they know what they're doing 🤞

I'm stoked about this deal! 🎥 Brandon Sanderson is going to be super involved in the adaptations of his works and that's amazing news for fans like me who have been waiting for a good Mistborn movie. The fact that he'll have creative control over both films and TV shows means we're probably gonna get some really cool interpretations of his universe, especially with the Cosmere series getting its own TV show 📺. I'm curious to see how they'll represent all those different worlds and timelines on screen – it's going to be a wild ride! And let's be real, having someone who's actually passionate about their work behind the scenes is a huge plus. Fingers crossed that we get some innovative storytelling and not just another generic fantasy film 🤞

🤔 finally someone with vision in Hollywood 🎥💡 apple tv must be careful what they wish for tho 😅 brandon sanderson's cosmere is a massive franchise, they'll need to do it justice or risk alienating fans 10/10 would watch a well-made mistborn movie 💫

OMG 🤯, can you even imagine how epic it's gonna be when Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere series hits the big screen? I mean, he's got creative control and all, so we're probably getting some really unique takes on his work. And with a shared creation myth across all these worlds, there's tons of potential for mind-blowing storylines 🤯. I'm hyped that they're gonna bring "The Stormlight Archive" to life, that's been my fave series for ages. I just hope they don't mess it up 😅, Sanderson seems like a total boss in charge of his own projects. This is a dream come true for all us Cosmere fans out there 🙌.
