Brooklyn man charged in stabbing death of his 85-year-old grandmother

A 22-year-old Brooklyn man is facing serious charges after allegedly stabbing his 85-year-old grandmother to death in their shared apartment. The NYPD confirmed that Jackson King had been taken into custody hours after the brutal attack, which took place on Tuesday night.

According to police, Julia Boomer suffered multiple stab wounds before being pronounced dead. Despite initial concerns over a possible psychotic episode triggered by King, authorities have since charged him with murder and a weapons offense.

The incident has sent shockwaves in the 79th Precinct, where Boomer's death marks the first homicide of 2026. While the precinct has seen a relatively low number of homicides in recent years, with only eight reported in each of 2024 and 2025, King's case remains a sobering reminder of the devastating impact of violence.

The arrest comes as citywide homicide rates have fallen by over 20% compared to previous years. As authorities continue to investigate King's motives, his attorney's information has yet to be made public.

I mean, yeah, another random case like this happens and suddenly everyone's all shocked 😒...like we haven't seen enough of these stories before? The fact that the guy was just 22 and got charged with murder already shows how much weight the system places on young people...it's not like he was some wild card who snapped or anything, he actually planned this whole thing out. And the NYPD is acting all surprised that they didn't know about any potential "psychotic episode" beforehand...sounds to me like they were just waiting for an excuse to book him 🙄. The 20% decrease in citywide homicide rates is definitely a good thing, but we can't let ourselves get too comfortable thinking everything's going downhill...because honestly, it probably isn't 😏.

can you believe what happened in Brooklyn?! 🤯 a young guy stabbed his own grandma to death in their apartment... it's just so senseless and tragic 💔. 22 is way too young to have to deal with something like this. I mean, I know life can be tough and all that, but stabbing someone you love? no excuse 🚫. and to think he was taken into custody just hours after it happened... justice is gonna be served hopefully 🤞. it's crazy how one incident can send shockwaves through a community like that. and yeah, the fact that it's happened in 2026 when citywide homicide rates have been going down is just heartbreaking 😔.

can you believe this? some 22-year-old guy just goes and kills his own grandma! what was he thinking?! i mean, i know we all have bad days, but stabbing someone to death is never the answer. and for a 79th Precinct resident to get killed like that, it's just so senseless. I guess this does make me think about how mental health affects people sometimes... but still, there should be other ways to deal with problems than resorting to violence

😱 Can't believe this is how it ends... for a grandma who deserves so much love and care. Stabbing your own family member is just unimaginable 🤯. I'm still trying to process why someone would do such a thing, especially to their own grandmother. It's like the thought of such cruelty sends chills down my spine. The fact that it happened in their shared apartment makes it even more disturbing... how did they not notice or hear anything? 💔
