Bulls guard Josh Giddey takes step toward return

Bulls Guard Josh Giddey Takes Step Towards Return, Still Has Some Work to Do

Chicago Bulls guard Josh Giddey took a significant step towards returning to the lineup on Sunday, as he practiced with the G League's Windy City Bulls for the first time since straining his left hamstring. The session marked five-on-five work for Giddey, who had been sidelined for 10 consecutive games.

Coach Billy Donovan reported that everything went smoothly for Giddey during practice, and the guard did some extra work afterwards. However, the coach emphasized that the team will need to see more from Giddey before declaring him ready to return to the court.

"We'll see how he responds, but I didn't get anything that there were any setbacks or any problems," Donovan said. "That was a good sign." The Bulls still hope to have Giddey back in action this week, with games against the Clippers, Timberwolves, and Celtics on their schedule.

However, the key to Giddey's return will be his confidence in avoiding another hamstring injury similar to one suffered by teammate Coby White. Donovan noted that Giddey's medical team would want to see him perform in multiple situations before giving him clearance to play.

Giddey, who was averaging 19.2 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 9.0 assists per game before his injury, had been making a strong case for his first All-Star appearance. Now, he has the opportunity to return to action and help the Bulls in their pursuit of victory.

On the other side of the court, forward Patrick Williams missed the game against the Nets after leaving with a sprained right ankle. Donovan reported that Williams was receiving treatment on Sunday but didn't recover quickly enough to be active. The coach mentioned that he doesn't think the injury will be long-term, but Williams is still feeling sore.

The Bulls' struggles in defensive rebounding have also been highlighted by the team's poor performance in this area. Coach Donovan has emphasized the need for increased hand activity and deflections during pick-and-roll coverage or screening actions.

"We try to work on it," Donovan said. "When you're doing pick-and-roll coverage or you're doing screening actions, two guys are in a pick-and-roll, so let's try to get that hand activity. You're hoping that a guy can get a piece or deflect the pass."

πŸ€” So I'm watching this Josh Giddey comeback story and it's like, on one hand you gotta feel for the dude, he's been out for 10 games and he's already making progress. But at the same time, 5-on-5 practice isn't exactly the same as a real game, right? I mean, how much does this really prepare him for the intensity of an NBA game?

And have you seen Patrick Williams' injury? πŸ€• It's like, one minute he's out there, the next minute he's on the bench with a sprained ankle. That's just frustrating to watch. And the Bulls' defense has been getting destroyed lately... it's like they're playing with one hand tied behind their back.

But you know what? I'm not gonna lie, this team needs Giddey and they need him now. They can't keep relying on other guys to step up and carry them through games. It's time for a change, maybe some new strategy or something. And if they can get Giddey back on the court, that would be a major boost.

I guess what I'm saying is... let's see how this plays out, I'll give it another week before I make up my mind. But so far, not exactly filling me with confidence 😐

Giddey taking steps towards return πŸ”„πŸ€ is a good sign, but coach Donovan's warning about needing to see more work from him before he's cleared to play shows that recovery won't be a cakewalk πŸ’”. The Bulls need Giddey's confidence in avoiding another hamstring injury or it could derail their playoff hopes 🚨. Meanwhile, Patrick Williams' sprained ankle is a minor bump in the road, but the team can't afford any more setbacks 😬. Increased hand activity and deflections during pick-and-roll coverage are key to improving their defense, so let's hope they can crack the code πŸ”’. The Bulls still have a tough schedule ahead of them, but with Giddey returning, they might just have a shot at making some noise in the playoffs πŸ’₯.

He's gotta be more careful with that hamstring thing πŸ€•πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ. Can't afford another injury like Coby White's, especially when he was looking good for an All-Star spot. Need him to show some confidence in avoiding that kind of setback...

πŸ€” finally some good news for the Bulls fans! Giddey was really missing on the court and it's great to see him getting back in practice mode πŸ˜… I'm just worried about his hammy issues tho, don't wanna see him go down again πŸ€• gotta be careful with that leg. Can't wait to see if he can make it back to form and help the team get those Ws πŸ’ͺ

OMG, this is some good news for Bulls fans! 🀩 Josh Giddey finally took some steps towards getting back on the court and I'm so hyped! πŸ’ͺ He's been out for 10 games already and it's clear that his team is feeling the loss of his skills. The extra work he did after practice is a big deal, fingers crossed it helps him avoid another hamstring injury 🀞 like Coby White had. Coach Donovan seems confident in Giddey's progress, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for his return to action this week! #JoshGiddey #BullsNation #ComebackKid

omg i'm so hyped for Josh Giddey to come back 🀩! he was on fire before his injury and i was literally rooting for him to make it to the all-star game πŸ™Œ. coach donovan seems pretty optimistic about his return, which is awesome πŸ’ͺ. but at the same time, we gotta see how he handles the stress of avoiding another hamstring injury... that's a major concern 😬. fingers crossed for josh and the bulls! πŸ‘

🚨 Just saw the latest on Josh Giddey and I'm feeling hopeful 🀞! 5-on-5 practice with the G League team is a big step forward, but you know how it is... gotta see the results on the court πŸ’ͺ. His medical team wants to make sure he's confident in avoiding another hamstring injury, and that's totally understandable 😊. It's like when I'm trying to finish a difficult project at work - you can't just rush through it, you need to double-check everything πŸ“.

I'm also keeping an eye on Patrick Williams' sprained ankle πŸ€•... fingers crossed he'll be back on the court soon πŸ’₯! The Bulls need him to bring that energy and talent to their games. And let's talk about defensive rebounding for a sec... it's like, come on guys! πŸ™„ Get those hands up and deflect those passes! Coach Donovan's been stressing the importance of increased hand activity, but I think we all know that's an easy fix πŸ”©.

Anyway, here's to Josh Giddey's speedy return and Patrick Williams' quick recovery πŸ†. Bring it on, Bulls! πŸ’₯ #BullsNation #GiddeyIsBack #WilliamsInjury #DefenseMatters

😐 I don't think Giddey should rush back into game action... his hamstring is still super sore and he doesn't wanna be out for too long again 😞. He needs to do some more rehab work before we can see him on the court πŸ€πŸ’ͺ. The Bulls need all the help they can get, but they also don't want to risk another injury πŸ€•πŸ‘

just gotta say, i'm keepin it real with josh giddey πŸ‘Š he's been gone for a bit and we all wanna see him back on the court, but coach donovan's right, gotta see some consistency from him first πŸ€” 10 games down, who knows how many more to go? hopefully he can avoid that hamstring thing again, don't want coby white to be his bro πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ and patrick williams' ankle injury, fingers crossed it's not too long-term πŸ’• the bulls need him back ASAP πŸ‘€

idk why people think giddy's return is gonna be a game changer...he's been injured before and we all know how that ends πŸ€”. and don't even get me started on his free throw skills...19.2 points per game isn't even that impressive when you think about it. plus, him missing 10 games already shows he's not exactly the most reliable player. coach donnovan needs to be realistic here and set expectations low 🚫

Giddey's comeback is looking good 🀞, but still gotta be careful not 2 repeat that hamstring injury. Hope he gets back 2 full strength ASAP πŸ‘. Bulls need him 2 make some noise in the playoffs πŸ’₯. On a separate note, Patrick Williams' injury 2 me seems like it might b a pretty minor one 😊. Not as bad as Coby White's hamstring strain last year πŸ™

I think Giddey needs to take it slow and not rush back into action πŸ€”. One hamstring strain is bad enough, but another one would be a major setback for him and the team 🚨. I'm all for getting him back on the court as soon as possible, but Coach Donovan's right in saying they need to see more from him before clearing him to play πŸ’ͺ.

It's also interesting that he's working with the G League Bulls first... maybe a bit too much time away from the team? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Still, I'm excited for Josh to get back out there and show off his skills ⚑️. Can't wait to see how it all plays out! πŸ‘€

omg i just saw this thread from like 2 days ago πŸ˜‚ guess i'm a bit late to the party... but anyway, i think its good that josh giddey is taking steps towards returning, idk how scary it must be for him to get hurt and now he has to work on building his confidence again πŸ€•. the defense thing seems kinda easy to fix just gotta get those hands up more and stop letting ppl score easily πŸ‘€. hope patrick wills recovers quick tho πŸ’ͺ

Just saw the latest update on Josh Giddey's return from injury 🀞 and I think it's great news for the Bulls! However, I do wonder if they'll be able to replicate his form before he gets back on the court. He was having an amazing season, averaging 19 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 9 assists per game! πŸ’ͺ The coaches are being cautious, which is good, but they should also give him time to get those confidence levels up again.

And what's with all these injuries happening at the same time? First Coby White, now Patrick Williams... it's like they're playing a game of injury roulette 🀣. Can't say I'm surprised though, NBA players are notoriously prone to getting hurt.

On a more serious note, I do think the Bulls' defensive rebounding is something they need to work on. They're not dominating games like they should be, and it's costing them some crucial wins. Maybe if they focus on increasing that hand activity and deflections, they'll start to see some improvements? πŸ€”

I'm totally surprised Josh Giddey just took a step forward with his return πŸ€”. I mean, 10 games out is not nothing, and his medical team is gonna want to see him do more than just show up for practice 😴. And don't even get me started on the Bulls' defensive rebounding issues - it's like they're just giving teams freebies on the glass πŸ™„. Patrick Williams might be out for a while, but at least he knows what's going on with his ankle injury, unlike some people who have been practicing in secret πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. I'm calling it now, Josh Giddey is gonna struggle to make it back to the court without another hamstring injury πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ.

idk how much longer they can keep milking this giddy situation, the guy's been out for 10 games already and still no clear timeline on his return πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸ€ coach donovan sounds pretty chill about it though, but come on, when are we gonna see him back on the court? the team really needs him right now...

πŸ€” OMG, I'm so glad Josh Giddey is taking steps towards returning! He's such a talented player and his injury was super frustrating πŸ™„. I think it's awesome that he got to practice with the G League team and showed no signs of setbacks πŸŽ‰. But, gotta be real, confidence is key here... we don't want him to go down again 😬. Coach Billy Donovan needs to make sure Giddey is performing well in all situations before giving him the green light πŸ’š.

And poor Patrick Williams! Sprained ankle is no joke πŸ€•. Hopefully it's not a long-term thing and he'll be back on the court soon ⏰. The Bulls need him to bounce back quickly because their defensive rebounding game has been kinda weak lately 😳. Coach Donovan's got some good points about increasing hand activity and deflections, but I think they just need to work on it in practice and get those big men communicating πŸ“πŸ’¬.

idk why coaches gotta be so extra with the "we'll see" and "didn't get anything that there were any setbacks"... gimme a break πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ, if he's practicing 5-on-5 already, that's a good sign, right? shouldn't they just give him the green light already?
and what's up with this "confidence in avoiding another hamstring injury" thing? like, come on, Josh Giddey's got skills, can't you trust him to make it through one game without getting injured again? πŸ™„
i'm still hyped for his return tho, 19.2 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 9.0 assists per game is no joke... maybe now we'll finally see that All-Star appearance he's been chasing πŸ’ͺ

man I remember when Jordan came back from his first injury and he was still rusty 🀣 but at least Giddey is on the right track now. 10 games on the bench is no joke, hopefully he doesn't mess up again like Coby White did with that hamstring πŸ€•. Coach Donovan seems to be keeping it real, they need to see him play in multiple situations before giving him a green light. The Bulls are still chasing that W, fingers crossed they can get Giddey back and Patrick Williams too πŸ‘. defensive rebounding is a whole different beast, gotta keep those hands up and deflections going πŸ’ͺ
