Cam Knowles remains frontrunner to be Loons’ next head coach

Minnesota United Sticks with Familiar Face as Search for Next Head Coach Continues

The exit of Eric Ramsay as Minnesota United's head coach has marked the beginning of a new era in Minnesota, and the team appears poised to name Cam Knowles, its current assistant coach, as his successor. The news comes after Ramsay left MNUFC to become the next head coach at West Bromwich Albion in the English second division.

Ramsay's departure leaves United with no shortage of experience, given that he was under contract until the 2026 MLS season and will require compensation from the club as per his terms. However, the exact figures have not been disclosed yet. The team is now focused on finding a new head coach to take over from Ramsay.

Knowles has long been considered the frontrunner for the role, thanks to his experience working alongside Ramsay for two seasons. As an interim head coach at the start of the 2024 season, Knowles helped the team navigate its first three games, securing a 2-0-1 record. Prior to joining United as an assistant coach, he spent nine years with the Portland Timbers and was also in charge of MNUFC2, the club's developmental team, in MLS Next Pro.

Despite Ramsay's impending departure, the current head coach has expressed his gratitude towards the Loons organization, praising the staff and players for their professionalism and commitment. United Chief Soccer Officer Khaled El-Ahmad has also wished Ramsay well in his new role, while emphasizing the club's confidence in its foundation.

As the search for a new head coach continues, Knowles will lead the team through preseason training sessions, starting on Monday in Blaine, before heading to Irvine, California, from Thursday to January 24. The Loons' first game of the season is set to take place on February 21 at Austin FC.

🤔 yooo what's good fam?? so i'm thinkin about this whole thing with minnesota united and cam knowles... it's like, he's been prepped for this role by working under ramsay for two seasons, so that's def a plus 🤝. but at the same time, you gotta wonder if they're making the right move... i mean, knowles has experience on his side, but how long can one guy run a team without getting burned out? 🔥 we'll just have to wait and see how it all plays out 💡

🤔 just wondering if Cam Knowles has what it takes to lead MNUFC to more wins this season 🏆💪 i mean, he's got experience working with Ramsay and all that, but can he bring something new to the table? 🤷‍♂️ also, is the team ready to move on from Ramsay's style of play? 📈 they had some ups and downs last season, so it'll be interesting to see how Knowles adapts 😊 anyway, wish him all the best! 👍

man i feel like mnufc is gonna be alright with cam knowles as head coach 🤞 he's been doing a solid job so far and has the experience to lead the team, plus ramsay leaving is a bit of a blow but they gotta keep moving forward 💪 knowles is the right choice in my opinion 👍

idk why ppl are hyped about this new head coach thingy... cam knowles is like the ultimate squad player, always in the shadows, doing his thang. he's not exactly known for being a risk-taker or innovator, you feel? i mean, he helped mnufc get through three games with a decent record, but that's not exactly what they're looking for, right? they need someone who can shake things up, bring some new energy to the table. knowles is like the safe bet, but where's the excitement in that? 🤔👎

I'm not sure if I'd be happy about Knowles taking over as head coach... don't get me wrong, he's been solid with United in the past 🤔. But, can we really trust that MNUFC2 stuff? What kinda experience does he really have? 🤷‍♂️

I dont really get why they need a new head coach tho 🤔 Like, whats wrong with cam knowles? Isnt he like super experienced and stuff? And what's the deal with eric ramsay leaving for another team? I mean, i like west bromwich albion but i dont really follow their league 🏟️... anyway, im just gonna watch mn united games on dazn and cheer for cam knowles lol

I feel like this whole thing is about growth and transition... like Knowles stepping up into a new role 🤝. We've gotta remember that change can be scary, but it's also an opportunity for us to learn, grow & become better versions of ourselves. The fact that Ramsay left with appreciation for the Loons organization shows he valued the experience & people around him... that's really admirable 💕. The team's focus on finding a new head coach now is like navigating through life's ups & downs - we gotta stay flexible, adapt & trust in our own abilities & those of others 🌱.

I gotta say, it's crazy that they're gonna stick with Knowles 🤯. I mean, he did do a decent job as interim head coach last year, but I'm not sure if he's ready for the big role just yet 🤔. I remember back in my day, we had coaches who were like, totally unproven before becoming head coach and it worked out okay 👍. But, I guess that's just the way the league is going nowadays 💼. Anyway, I'm kinda excited to see how Knowles does as head coach... or whatever 😅.

🤯 I'm literally so done with the constant changes in MNUFC's coaching staff. Like can't we just keep it stable for once?! 😩 Eric Ramsay leaving and now Cam Knowles taking over? What's next?! 🤷‍♂️ The team has all this experience under their belts, but still they're having to figure things out on the fly. I swear, I've been following this team since day one and it's like Groundhog Day – same old story, different coach, same old hopes and dreams 😔. Knowles is a solid choice though, I guess. He knows what works with Ramsay so maybe that'll be an advantage? But still, can't we just have a good run for once?! 🤦‍♂️

🤔 I'm kinda surprised that Knowles is being considered as the next head coach after Ramsay left... but like, it makes total sense too? He's been with the team for a while now and has some great experience under his belt. 😊 The fact that he helped them navigate those first three games in 2024 was pretty impressive. I'm curious to see how they'll do with him at the helm this time around... maybe they can finally make it out of the playoffs? 🏆

🙏 think knowles is a good choice 🤔, been around the block a few times with portland and timbers, so knows what it takes to win 💪. maybe can bring some stability to mnufc after ramsay left 🌎

omg i just got my favorite new sneakers and theyre so comfy 🤩 but anyway this is kinda interesting that Minnesota United chose Cam Knowles as their new head coach, i guess he did a good job as an assistant coach under Eric Ramsay lol what do you think about soccer, have you been to any games?

Ugh 🤦‍♂️, another new head coach at Minnesota United and I'm still waiting for them to fix their streaming issues... Like, can't a guy watch a match online without buffering every 5 seconds? 😩 And don't even get me started on the lack of social media presence updates - how do you expect fans to follow the team when there's no new content posted for weeks at a time? 📱💻 Still, I guess Cam Knowles being the new head coach is a solid choice... he does have experience working with Ramsay and all that. Fingers crossed they'll sort out their tech problems soon 👍

so Cam Knowles is the top choice 🤔... I think it's a solid move considering he has experience working with Eric Ramsay and was in charge of MNUFC2 too 👍. But on the other hand, it's a shame that Ramsay got to leave because I thought he did okay as head coach 🤷‍♂️. The team is still gonna need some new blood to really make some changes around here 💪. Knowles will have his work cut out for him, especially with preseason starting soon 🕒... do you think the team will be competitive this season? 🏆

omg I'm so hyped for Cam Knowles to become the new head coach 🤩 #TeamKnowles 💪 He's been with MNUFC for two seasons and has already shown his skills as an interim head coach, helping them secure a 2-0-1 record at the start of the 2024 season! I'm loving the vibe around Knowles being the frontrunner for this role #LoonsFuture 🌟 The fact that he's got nine years of experience with the Portland Timbers and was in charge of MNUFC2 is a major win for me, can't wait to see what he does next! 💫

🤔 so i'm thinking, if cam knowles is gonna be the next head coach, it's a pretty safe bet he'll try to stick with the same formation that worked under ramsay... might not change much in terms of squad depth, but hey, stability can be a good thing, right? 💯 and yeah, gotta give credit to khaled el-ahmad for being understanding about eric ramsay's departure... i mean, it's all part of the business, but still nice to see some class from the chief soccer officer 🙏

just wonderin what went wrong for Ramsay at MNUFC 🤔👥 he had some good seasons but now hes chasin another big league gig... hope Knowles can bring stability to the team, dont wanna see them take a step back ⚽💪

lol what a cop out lol they're just gonna stick with knowles cuz he's familiar face i mean c'mon eric ramsay got a new gig but we still gotta give it up for him 🤷‍♂️ anyway knowles is cool and all but can't they find someone way better like maybe someone who actually won the cup or something? 😂
