Champions Cup: Bulls 49-61 Bristol - Bears win astonishing 16-try contest

Bristol Bears handed a thrashing to Harlequins 61-49 in the Investec Champions Cup in a 16 try contest, moving top of Pool 4. The Bulls centre David Kriel scored four minutes into the second half to reduce the gap but the game was out of reach after that.

The Bristol Bears had dominated play for seven minutes before Janse van Rensburg and Max Lahiff strolled over. After a Bulls response try from Jeandre Rudolph, Heward intercepted a Bulls pass to race over from distance. The Bulls got on the scoreboard after 13 minutes when Rudolph collected a loose ball to dive over but it did nothing to dent Bristol's momentum and they claimed the try bonus point after 15 minutes.

By the time Jacobs had scored his second for the ninth try of the contest the score was 42-21 after 28 minutes. A fortunate bounce allowed Ravouvou to grab his second, before De Klerk and Le Roux crossed for the Bulls and Bristol required an excellent tap-tackle from Janse van Rensburg to stop Mpilo Gumede scoring a 17th try of the day.

Pedro Rubiolo scored and Ravouvou added a second before De Klerk and Le Roux crossed, making it 61-35 with ten minutes remaining. Despite late scores from Sebastian de Klerk and Willie le Roux, the Bears couldn't make up the deficit to claim the win.

The match was played at Pretoria's Loftus Versfeld stadium in front of a crowd of approximately 42,000 fans.

man this brailey bristol bears are on fire 🔥! like seriously they just dismantled those quins harlequins and took that top spot in pool 4 🏆 what can the bulls do at this point? david kriel did show some spark but it wasn't enough to turn that game around 🤔 i think bryc chadwick's squad has got something special, they're dominating play and getting try after try 💪 meanwhile the quins just got thrashed 😩 hope harlequins can regroup and get their act together

I gotta say, that Bristol Bears team is on fire 🔥! They totally dominated the game from start to finish and it's no surprise they came out on top. I mean, Harlequins put up a good fight, but when you're getting thrashed like that, it's hard to see how anyone else can catch up.

The thing that really stood out to me was Bristol's ability to capitalise on mistakes from the opposing team. They were always quick to pounce on any loose ball or interception and turn it into a try, which really paid off for them. And let's not forget about Janse van Rensburg - his tackle on Mpilo Gumede was pure class 🤩!

As for Harlequins, I think they just ran out of steam towards the end. They did have some good moments and guys like Jeandre Rudolph scored some great tries, but when you're getting beat 12 try difference, it's tough to mount a comeback.

What really impressed me was how Bristol handled the pressure and stayed focused throughout the game. I mean, they could've easily gotten complacent after an early lead, but they kept pushing forward and it paid off in the end 🙌!

omg what a game!!! i love how the Bristol Bears just destroyed Harlequins 61-49 lol david kriel scored that try and it was like the bulls were back in the game for a sec 🤯 but bristol's defence was on point and they just kept piling on those tries 👍 janse van rensburg's tap-tackle was SAVAGE 💪

omg what a match ! 🤯 Bristol Bears totally dominated that game! I mean, they were on fire from start to finish 💥. Janse van Rensburg and Max Lahiff scoring back-to-back tries was like a wake-up call for Harlequins, but the Bears just kept pushing forward 🔨. The way Heward intercepted that pass and scored was pure magic ✨. And can we talk about Pedro Rubiolo's try? 🤩 It was such a lucky bounce, but it made all the difference! 😅 Anyways, I'm loving how the Bulls gave it their all, even though they couldn't catch up in the end 💪. That crowd of 42k at Loftus Versfeld must've been electric ⚡️!

the rugby is getting more insane lol 🤯 what a game!!! bristol bears are on fire 🔥 but man harlequins gave them a run for their money 😅 david kriel's late try was super clutch 🙌 and i'm loving the rivalries brewing in this competition can't wait to see how the rest of pool 4 unfolds 👀
