ChatGPT users faced a collective frustration today as the AI chatbot experienced a partial outage, with over 12,000 reports flooding into Down Detector during its peak. OpenAI swiftly acknowledged the issue, stating that "elevated error rates" were occurring for both ChatGPT and Platform users.

The company assured users that it had taken steps to address the problem, which was resolved at 5:14 PM ET. However, an active status alert remains in place for the fine-tuning component of its API service, suggesting that a final resolution may be pending.

In a separate incident, Anthropic's Claude AI chatbot also encountered outages earlier today, with similar issues reported across all models. The company resolved the issue by 1 PM ET.

As of now, ChatGPT is back online, but its recovery has been complicated by an ongoing concern over its fine-tuning component. OpenAI remains vigilant in monitoring the situation, but it appears that users can resume their interactions with the AI chatbot once again.

This partial outage for both ChatGPT and Claude is a bit concerning, I mean, you're right in the middle of creating some awesome content and then BAM! The whole thing goes down . I'm soooo relieved that ChatGPT is back online!!! I was literally stressing out when it went down lol... I mean, 12k reports flooding into Down Detector? That's crazy! But OpenAI stepped up and got it fixed ASAP - 5:14 PM ET was like a breath of fresh air for me!
