Coast Guard suspends search for people missing from fishing vessel that sank off Cape Ann

The US Coast Guard has suspended its search for the missing crew members from a fishing vessel that sank off Cape Ann, Massachusetts. The vessel, which was traveling between Gloucester and Provincetown, went down in rough seas on January 26th.

Over a 24-hour period, coast guardsmen covered an area of approximately 1,000 square miles using aircraft, cutters, and small boats to scour the waters for any signs of survivors. Despite their efforts, no one has been found alive.

The Coast Guard had launched its search operation in response to a mayday call from the vessel's captain, who reported that his boat was taking on water and struggling to stay afloat. The Coast Guard received multiple reports of the vessel's location, but none of these were confirmed due to the rough seas and darkness.

The suspended search is expected to remain in effect until further notice.

πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ Another day, another tragic maritime incident 🌊. I mean, what are the chances, right? A fishing vessel sinks in the middle of nowhere, and no one makes it out alive πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ. It's not like the coast guards are made of glass or anything, but seriously, 1,000 square miles to search over a 24-hour period? That's some serious manpower...and maybe a few decent cups of coffee β˜•οΈ.

I'm no expert, but it seems like they were doing everything they could under the circumstances. Rough seas and darkness are no joke πŸŒƒ. The captain did send out that mayday call for a reason, so you've got to give him some props for that πŸ’―.

It's all just really sad now...another family torn apart by the ocean πŸ˜”. Wishing their loved ones all the best during this tough time ❀️.

OMG I just heard about this sad news πŸ€•... it's soooo tragic that no one was found alive. My grandma loves fish and she fishes sometimes with her friends... but not like that, on a big boat with rough seas 🌊😨. I wonder how the captain managed to send out a mayday call though? Like, did they have a phone or what? πŸ“±πŸ‘€ And now the Coast Guard is suspending the search, does that mean they're giving up hope or something? πŸ˜” I just want to know if anyone found any stuff from the boat, like their personal belongings... it's weird how people always seem to find some stuff even in the worst circumstances πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ.

awww my heart goes out to the families of those fishermen πŸ€•πŸ˜” they must be going through the toughest time ever... 1k sq miles searched, can you believe it? so much love & respect to the coast guard crew who risked their lives to help everyone out πŸ’–πŸŒŠ

awww my heart goes out to the families of those missing crew members πŸ€—πŸŒŠ they must be going through such a tough time... hope everyone back home is taking care of them πŸ™πŸ˜” the coast guard's efforts are truly commendable, i know they're doing everything they can to find anyone who might've survived... fingers crossed that maybe someone will turn up soon and bring some closure to those loved ones πŸ’•πŸŒ΄

I feel bad for the families who are still waiting for any news about their loved ones πŸ€•. It's like they're stuck in limbo, not knowing if their family members made it out alive or not. I don't think the Coast Guard did enough, tbh... all that searching and no signs of survivors? It's just too weird πŸ’”. And what's the deal with those rough seas making it so hard to confirm the vessel's location? That's some crazy weather right there β›ˆοΈ. But I guess you can't control the sea, right? 😐 Still, I wish they could've done more to try and find them 🀞. Now the families are just left wondering... 😩

🚨🌊 I feel so bad for the crew members of that fishing vessel πŸ€• They're lucky they made it out to send a mayday call. The Coast Guard did everything they could with those conditions, 1k sq mi search area is massive! πŸ’₯ They used 4 aircraft, cutters & boats, still no sign of survivors... It's like the sea swallowed them whole πŸŒŠπŸ‘€

Did you know that in 2020, there were 428 reported marine incidents off the US coast? That's a lot of risk taken by fishermen. πŸš£β€β™‚οΈ And on average, only 12% of people lost at sea are actually rescued πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

Coast Guard search efforts are pretty intense, covering over 1 million sq mi in a year 🀯 That's like searching the entire US coastline! 🌊 They're doing their best with what they have. πŸ’ͺ The vessel was traveling from Gloucester to Provincetown btw... that's some serious cruising ground πŸš£β€β™‚οΈ

ugh this is so sad... i cant imagine how scary it must've been for those guys on the boat πŸ€• ... 1k sq mi is like, whoa, that's a huge area to search thru, and rough seas makes it even harder. did they at least find out what happened to the vessel? was it just a freak accident or something? i hope the captain who made that mayday call gets some kinda help from the coast guard or something... 🀞

man this is such sad news πŸ€• the coast guard has been out there for days searching for those crew members its like they're just floating out there somewhere hoping someone shows up but its not looking good atm i feel bad for their families and loved ones who are probably going through hell right now my heart goes out to them πŸ˜”

😞 Just saw this news about that fishing vessel off Cape Ann... totally get why they're suspending the search now tho 🌊 Rough seas are no joke, it's a miracle any of them were even able to make that call for help in the first place. Still sad though, hope the crew is at peace and whoever finds out what happened gets some closure πŸ˜”

man this is so sad πŸ€•... i mean, can you imagine being out on that boat with no way to save yourself? it's just devastating to think about all those people out there in the water, struggling to stay alive. and what really gets me is that they were trying to make a living, doing their job, and then disaster strikes. it's not just about the physical toll of being lost at sea, but also the emotional trauma that comes with it.

i think its crazy how quickly the coast guard had to mobilize and respond to the mayday call - 24 hours is no joke, you know? they were out there for hours on end, searching for any sign of survivors. its not like they just threw up their hands and said forget about it... no way, they're still gonna keep looking until they find someone.

anyway, my heart goes out to the families of those people who are missing... let's hope that somehow, someway, they'll be found alive ❀️

πŸŒŠπŸ˜” I'm not surprised they're suspending the search efforts. Those Coast Guardsmen are doing their best out there in those harsh conditions, but it's just so hard to find anyone alive when you're dealing with rough seas and darkness. I mean, think about it - a mayday call is already pretty serious, right? If the captain was struggling that much, it's possible they didn't make it... πŸ€• And now, all we know is that no one has been found in over 24 hours, which is just really frustrating for everyone involved. I hope whoever was on that boat is okay, but sometimes you just can't pinpoint where someone went down in the water. It's like trying to find a needle in a haystack out there... πŸ’”

I feel so bad for those missing crew members πŸ€• Their families must be going through hell right now. I remember when my dad was a fisherman back in the day, he always told me about the dangers of the sea... rough seas, harsh weather conditions... it's no joke.

This search operation is massive, 1,000 square miles covered in just 24 hours... that's insane! 🀯 I hope they're able to find some clues or at least bring closure to the families. It's not easy being out there on those waves, fighting for your life. My grandfather used to tell me stories about shipwrecks and how the sea can be unforgiving.

I just hope they can re-launch the search when the weather clears up a bit. I know it's hard, but you've gotta keep trying until all options are exhausted. These guys are heroes in every sense of the word... πŸ™
