Disco Time Ready to Steal the Show in Pegasus World Cup
A decade ago, Gulfstream Park's organizers decided to create a multi-million-dollar event for older Thoroughbreds to kick off their breeding season. On January 24, this year, they'll be hosting the prestigious Pegasus World Cup Invitational with an impressive $3 million purse on the line. However, it won't feature the iconic Bee Gees or flashing disco lights β Disco Time, a four-year-old stallion from Juddmonte Farms, is expected to shine.
Disco Time boasts an unblemished record, having won all five of his starts with ease, and is now set to face grade 1 company in the Pegasus. Trainer Brad Cox says the horse has always shown exceptional talent, combining speed with intelligence. "He's a smart horse that has speed, there's a lot to like about him," Cox noted.
In 2025, Disco Time was considered a promising contender for the Kentucky Derby, but an injury bug forced him into a six-month layoff. The decision was made to prioritize his health and let nature take its course. However, after a period of rest, he regained his form with impressive victories in the St. Louis Derby and the Dwyer Stakes at Aqueduct.
Cox acknowledged that returning from an extended break always comes with uncertainty but praised Disco Time's preparation. "We really liked him going into the St. Louis Derby because he had been training so well," Cox said, pointing to the horse's strong performance in the Dwyer Stakes as a promising sign. "He broke well and ran strong the entire way." With this momentum, Disco Time is now ready to take on his toughest challenge yet.
Trained by Brad Cox, who also claimed the 2021 Pegasus with Knicks Go, Disco Time will face 11 other top-notch contenders in the Pegasus World Cup Invitational. The mile-and-a-half race will kick off at 5:39 pm Eastern from post one, and Flavien Prat will ride this talented stallion. With a morning line of 8-5, Disco Time is poised to shine on January 24.
