Broadway Power Couple Sparkles on Valentine's Day as They Star in Shows Next Door to Each Other.
Hannah Cruz and Edred Utomi, a married couple and Broadway stars, are lighting up the Great White Way this Valentine's Day with their shows situated next door to each other on West 46th Street. The star-crossed lovers will have a chance to sneak in a quick kiss between performances, despite having two shows scheduled for February 14.
"I think we'll probably just give each other a little hug," Cruz told The Post. "That would be nice." But they won't forget to celebrate the Monday after their Valentine's Day performances. Each year, they take turns planning a special evening, with last year belonging to Utomi and this year being his turn.
Utomi, 34, stars as Alexander Hamilton in "Hamilton" at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, while Cruz, 33, plays Svetlana in "Chess," at the Imperial Theatre. While their schedules can be hectic, they've found ways to make it work. Utomi's earlier curtain time allows him to sign autographs and still commute back home to their Battery Park apartment with Cruz.
The lovebirds met during the first national tour of "Hamilton" in 2018, where Utomi played Hamilton and Cruz played Eliza, his wife. They quickly realized they had chemistry due to their characters' multiple on-stage kisses per show. After a brief relationship with another person, Cruz eventually ended it so she could pursue her growing feelings for Utomi.
Utomi, who grew up in San Diego, proposed to Cruz during the last night of the "Hamilton" tour in 2023 with his family present. The couple tied the knot in Hawaii last year and have been making waves on social media with a Valentine's Day video featuring them waving from their respective theaters, which garnered over 2 million views.
In a recent twist, Lin-Manuel Miranda, creator of "Hamilton," stopped by Utomi's dressing room to reveal that there's a secret tunnel connecting the two theaters. While they haven't used it yet, they're eager to do so in the future.
