Former home secretary Suella Braverman defects to Reform UK

Suella Braverman, a former Home Secretary, has joined Reform UK, a breakaway faction from the Conservative Party led by Nigel Farage. In a surprise move, Braverman announced her defection at an event hosted by Reform, citing a desire to join a party that shares her vision for a better future. The decision comes after Braverman was sacked as Home Secretary by Rishi Sunak, who accused her of fuelling far-right violence with her rhetoric.

Braverman's departure is the third time this month a sitting Conservative MP has defected to Reform UK, following Robert Jenrick and Andrew Rosindell. Farage welcomed Braverman into his party, saying she was prepared to "put our shoulder on the wheel" and work together to achieve common goals.

However, not everyone is pleased with the defection. The Conservative Party responded to Braverman's announcement by releasing a scathing statement that questioned her mental health, claiming that she had been unhappy in her role as Home Secretary. This move was widely criticized as an attempt to smear Braverman and undermine her credibility.

Labour has seized on the controversy surrounding Braverman's defection, accusing Farage of trying to recruit "failed Tories" who are willing to accept blame for the party's mistakes. The Labour Party chair, Anna Turley, described Farage's decision to welcome Braverman into his party as a sign of "complete lack of judgment".

Farage has responded to criticism by saying that he is only interested in recruiting those who are prepared to acknowledge their mistakes and work towards change. However, the move has raised questions about Reform UK's willingness to accept former Conservative MPs with checkered pasts.

Braverman's defection has also sparked debate about the direction of Reform UK, which has been accused of turning into another Conservative party. The party's press team has denied these claims, but Farage has refused to rule out the possibility of Truss joining his party in the future.

u guys gotta question reform uk's vetting process 🤔 they're just getting a bunch of has beens from the conservative party and calling it a day 😒 suella braverman is like the poster child for this kinda thing, was sacked as home sec for fuelling far right violence and now she's joining reform uk? what's next? robert jenrick and andrew rosindell are already there 🤦‍♂️ it's like they're not even trying to hide the fact that they're just a bunch of conservative party defectors with new labels 😒

🤔 I think Suella Braverman's decision to join Reform UK is super interesting. On one hand, it shows that she's willing to take a risk and try something new. But on the other hand, I'm not sure if it's a good move for her career... 🤷‍♀️ I mean, she just got sacked by Rishi Sunak and now she's jumping ship again? It feels like she's trying to escape some kind of trouble.

And then there's the whole thing with the Conservative Party accusing her of having mental health issues. That's a pretty shady move if you ask me... 🙅‍♂️ I think they're just trying to discredit her and make her look bad.

But what really gets me is that Reform UK has this reputation for being kind of... hardline? I'm not sure if Braverman realizes the direction she's getting herself into. Is she ready to deal with all the backlash that comes with joining a party like that? 🤔 It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out in the coming months... 👀

Its not surprising that Suella Braverman joined Reform UK, given how her departure from the Conservative Party was handled 🤔. I think its a bit harsh on Braverman to be accused of fuelling far-right violence without concrete evidence 🚫. As for Reform UK's intentions, Im not sure if it wants to become just another Conservative party or something entirely different 🤷‍♂️. Its possible that Farage genuinely believes in reforming the system from within and welcoming people with a willingness to change 💪. However, I do think Labour has a point in saying that Reform UK's recruitment strategy could be seen as opportunistic, playing on the discontent of former Conservatives 📊. Ultimately, its up to Braverman and others to prove themselves and show what they can bring to the table 📈.

I'm thinking Suella Braverman making this big move to Reform UK is a bit weird considering her history with the Conservative Party. I mean, she was sacked by Rishi Sunak and now she's basically running away from it? 🤔 It's like, what changed? Was it just one bad experience or something deeper?

And then there's the way the Conservative Party reacted - that mental health comment? Come on! That's a low blow. 😡 I don't think that helps her credibility at all.

I'm also not sure about Reform UK's intentions here. They're basically taking in these former Tories with questionable track records, and now they're trying to distance themselves from the Conservative Party? 🤷‍♂️ It's like, are they just trying to be different or what?

Farage says he wants to recruit people who acknowledge their mistakes, but I'm not convinced. What's his endgame here? Is it really about creating a new party or just playing politics as usual? 🤔

omg, suella braverman just jumped ship from conservative party 🚣‍♀️🤯 and now reform uk is all like it wants change lol what's going on with that? anyway, i think farage needs to get a grip on his party before he starts recruiting more "failed tories" 😂 meanwhile, labour is totally having fun taking shots at Farage's judgment 🎉 and braverman's mental health comment from the cons is just cringeworthy 😳 what do u guys think? should reform uk be more inclusive or does Farage have to clean house? 👀

i think suella braverman making this move is a big deal 🤯. she was pretty vocal about some stuff that didnt sit well with rishi sunak and now shes off to reform uk. personally, im not sure what to make of it... its like she's trying to rebrand herself or something? Farage seems legit interested in working together though 💼. but labor is having none of it, saying reform uk is just a bunch of failed conservatives 🙄. im curious to see how this all plays out, esp with the debate about reform uk being more conservative... does anyone really think they can bring about change if they're just copying the old party's playbook? 🤔
