From incel culture to the White House: American Psycho's dark hold on modern masculinity

I think american psycho is still super relevant today ๐Ÿค”... but in a weird way its like we've gone full circle back to the 80s yuppie culture it was supposed to mock ๐Ÿ˜…. The whole "incel culture" thing is super concerning and bateman's character is more of a cautionary tale than an aspirational figure imo ๐Ÿ’ฏ. I also think it's crazy how bateman's smug face has become a meme, like we're literally laughing at the very same toxic masculinity he was trying to critique ๐Ÿ˜‚. anyway, it's definitely worth revisiting the book and considering its commentary on modern society... maybe we can learn something from ellis's sharp satire ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ’ก

I'm so over how people romanticize Patrick Bateman these days ๐Ÿ™„. Like, yeah, he's a cautionary tale about toxic masculinity and all that, but let's not forget he's also a symbol of privilege and entitlement ๐Ÿ˜’. His world is one of designer labels and luxury, but beneath the surface, it's just a facade of emptiness and desperation. I mean, how can we justify his actions? The book's satire may be biting, but sometimes I think it's just a reflection of our own complicity in this toxic culture ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ. We need to take a closer look at what American Psycho is saying about us, not just its dark and twisted world ๐Ÿ“š.

omg u guys i'm literally freaking out rn thinking about how american psycho is soooo relevant right now like patrick bateman represents the ultimate symbol of toxic masculinity & it's wild how his character has become an aspirational figure for some ppl idk what's more disturbing tho - the fact that ppl are actually relating to batman's struggles or the fact that ppl think he's a hero lol anyway i'm low-key obsessed with this book right now & i need to re-read it ASAP ๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ‘€

Dude its like totally relevant how American Psycho is still eerily relevant today ๐Ÿคฏ. The whole yuppie culture thing and toxic masculinity vibes are straight fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ. I mean Bateman's character is not just some satirical representation but a warning about the dangers of unchecked ego and dehumanization. And let's be real, the "sigma face" meme is like totally cringeworthy ๐Ÿ˜‚. But for real though, this book is still a commentary on modern society and how we're all complicit in our own culture. It's not just about Bateman but about us โ€“ our values, our priorities. We need to revisit Ellis's work and consider its relevance because the themes are still so pertinent today ๐Ÿ’ก

It's wild how this book has become so relevant in today's world ๐Ÿคฏ. I mean, we're still dealing with issues like toxic masculinity, incel culture, and the objectification of women. Bateman's character is more than just a satirical representation of 80s yuppie culture - he's a symbol of our collective darker impulses ๐Ÿ’”. The way Ellis critiques capitalism, male privilege, and hyper-masculine values feels eerily prescient ๐Ÿ“Š. And let's be real, the "sigma face" meme is basically Bateman in human form ๐Ÿ˜‚. But what's really interesting is how this book can serve as a warning about the dangers of unchecked power and accountability. We need to revisit Ellis's work and consider its relevance in today's world because, at the end of the day, American Psycho is all about us - our societal values, cultural norms, and personal demons ๐Ÿค–.
