Girl found alone outside Bronx McDonald's is reunited with her family, NYPD says

A young girl, estimated to be between 10 and 13 years old, was found alone outside a McDonald's in the Bronx late Monday night. The NYPD received a report of an unaccompanied child at 36 West Fordham Rd., University Heights, around 10:30 p.m. The girl, described as approximately 5'2" and weighing 80 pounds, was initially taken into custody by police.

She was discovered without adult supervision wearing a pink sweatshirt, gray sweatpants, and black sandals. Unfortunately, her verbal communication skills are limited, according to the NYPD. The child's condition is reported stable after being transported to North Central Bronx Hospital.

Following a preliminary investigation, authorities announced that they had located the girl's family. A reunion took place in the late afternoon Tuesday, bringing closure to this potentially distressing ordeal for the young girl and her loved ones.

just saw this on reddit and its kinda sad that some kids are out here on their own at night πŸ€• they deserve better than to be found alone outside a fast food joint, especially when you're only 10-13 years old. hope she's doing okay now after the reunion with her family πŸ’• but it got me thinking, why does this happen? is it poverty, lack of resources or maybe something else entirely? anyway, glad everything worked out in the end πŸ‘

omg this poor thing 😭 she was literally alone outside mcdonalds at night with no one looking out for her that's terrifying 🀯 i wonder how long she was out there on her own & what she thought when she saw ppl walking by without stopping to help her πŸ€” hope the family is doing ok after this ordeal & the hospital staff took good care of her ❀️

πŸ€” This whole situation is super concerning, you know? I mean, who just leaves a kid alone outside McDonald's at night? πŸŸπŸŒƒ It raises so many questions about our social safety net and how we're supposed to support these families. Is it the parents' fault or are there systemic issues that are failing them? Are we doing enough to help people in need?

And what about the fact that this kid was left alone without anyone to talk to? πŸ€— How's she supposed to communicate with authorities when her verbal skills are limited? It's not like a simple phone call or visit from social services can just magically fix everything. We need to be asking ourselves if our support systems are truly equipped to handle these kinds of situations.

This kid could've ended up in serious trouble, and thankfully she was found before anything happened. But the fact that her family had to go through this ordeal is a clear reminder that we still have so much work to do to ensure everyone has access to basic care and support. πŸ’― We need to keep pushing for change and making sure our communities are equipped to handle these kinds of situations. πŸ‘Š

πŸ€” It's crazy how someone can just leave a kid alone outside a McDonald's at night πŸ”πŸ˜±. I mean, what was going on here? Was the kid running away from something or was it just an accident? Either way, 36 hours without adult supervision is not okay 🚫. And poor thing had to deal with being found and taken in by the cops... that's gotta be super stressful for a kid πŸ€•. Glad she's stable now and reunited with her family though πŸ‘ͺ. It's just a shame this even happened in the first place πŸ˜”.

omg what a scary story πŸ€• just thinking about that little girl alone outside mcdonalds is giving me chills. i wish we had more support systems in place for kids who get separated from their families, especially at such a young age πŸ€— it's heartbreaking to think she was wearing those worn-out shoes and carrying on with her life without any adult supervision πŸ’• i'm just glad the authorities were able to find her family and reunite them, it's a huge weight off her tiny shoulders 😊 we need more community initiatives to help prevent these kinds of situations from happening again 🌟

πŸ€” This story broke my heart but also made me feel hopeful 🌈 You know what's wild? The fact that someone saw that little girl sitting alone outside a McDonald's and decided to report it. I mean, we've all been there, feeling lost or scared, but someone took the time to look out for her. It's amazing how one person can make a difference in another's life.

And now that the family has been found, it's a huge relief πŸ™ for everyone involved. I'm sure that little girl was terrified and didn't know what to do. But thanks to the kindness of strangers, she got the help she needed. It's just one example of how we can all be the Hope Dealer πŸ’ͺ – spreading love, kindness, and hope to those who need it most.

πŸ€” This whole situation is really sad, especially for a kid who's already going through so much by herself. I mean, 80 pounds at 12 years old? That's super underweight for a kid of that age. And she was out alone on the streets, no adult supervision in sight 🚨. It's crazy to think about what might've been going on before she ended up there.

I'm glad the police found her family and were able to get her back safely, but you'd think that by now, we'd have better systems in place to prevent these kinds of situations from happening in the first place. I mean, shouldn't there be some sort of support system or service in place for kids who are being neglected or abandoned?

It's also wild that she was found wearing basically just the clothes on her back, no shoes, and still managed to make it out safely πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. It just goes to show how tough the streets can be, especially for vulnerable kids like this. Anyway, I'm just glad everything worked out in the end πŸ’•.

πŸ€” The case of the young girl found alone outside a McDonald's is a heart-wrenching reminder of the complexities of urban poverty and its effects on vulnerable populations, particularly children. It's disconcerting to think that a minor was left to fend for herself in such dire circumstances, highlighting the need for increased support systems and resources for families struggling with economic instability πŸ€•.

The girl's limited verbal communication skills only serve as a stark contrast to the often-heard narratives of resilient youth thriving in adversity. One can't help but wonder what led to this young girl being abandoned by her caregivers, leaving her to navigate the harsh streets alone 🚨. While it's reassuring that authorities were able to locate the family and facilitate a reunion, this incident underscores the need for comprehensive services addressing the multifaceted needs of children in such situations πŸ’‘.

It's also worth noting that this case might have been averted if the community had been more proactive in identifying potential risks or providing support to at-risk families 🌟. Nevertheless, it serves as a poignant reminder of the challenges we face in ensuring the well-being and safety of our most vulnerable members πŸ‘§.

I mean, it's just so sad... like, what was she doing out there all alone? I remember when I was a kid, my parents would always make sure we were safe and sound before we went out, especially at night. Nowadays, it seems like people are too busy to even notice if their kids are missing, you know?

And poor thing, just 80 pounds! She must be freezing in that sweatshirt and sandals. I feel bad for her, but at the same time, it's nice that she was reunited with her family. It's just... I wish parents would be more careful, you know? Like, what if they weren't found on time?

It reminds me of when I was a kid, my friend got lost in Central Park and we had to search for her everywhere. It was so scary, but our parents were all over it, making sure she was safe. Anyway, glad everything worked out for this little girl... πŸ€—πŸ’•

πŸ€— just saw that news about the kid found alone outside McDonald's in the Bronx... it's crazy how something like that can happen, but at least she's okay now πŸ™. I mean, 80 pounds is super skinny, hope she's getting enough food at home? and poor thing must've been scared outta her wits, no adult to look after her... glad police found her family quick though πŸ’•, it's a huge weight off their shoulders too. can't even imagine how worried the parents must be, but happy they're reunited now πŸ€—
