Gov. Hochul's proposed protections for NY immigrants fall short, policy advocates say

I gotta disagree 🤔. I think Hochul's proposals are a good start, but they're not enough 💸. Creating new avenues for undocumented immigrants to sue ICE officers is a nice gesture, but what about the bigger picture? We need more concrete action on blocking collaboration between law enforcement and ICE altogether 🔒. The New York For All Act is a game-changer 🔄, and I think Hochul should be all in on supporting it 🙌. State sanctuary policies can help prevent profiling and harassment of immigrants, but we need to see more states taking this stance 💪. Republicans might say it makes the state less safe, but that's just not true 🚫. Immigrant communities deserve protection and dignity, not fear and intimidation 😕. We should be supporting legislation that strengthens immigrant rights, not just band-aid solutions 🤷‍♀️.

I'm not sure if a ban on using state resources for federal immigration enforcement is enough 🤔. I mean, isn't it just going to encourage more of these situations where people are being targeted by ICE? Like what's stopping them from just finding another way to do their job? And what about the people who have been harmed by abusive practices - how will they actually get help if no one is willing to enforce the law on ICE officers? I need some actual numbers or statistics on this before I can trust that it'll make a difference 📊. Can someone provide me with some sources on this?
