I just read this story about the young welder in Louisiana who almost died from anthrax
. It's crazy to think that someone as young as 18 could be exposed to such a deadly disease without any underlying health issues. I mean, I've seen people die of more 'normal' diseases than anthrax at my age!
The thing is, it makes you wonder about the dangers of working with metal in factories and workshops. All those toxic fumes and gases can't be good for your lungs, right? And now we know that exposure to iron might even make you more susceptible to this infection
.
It's a good reminder for all us older folks who are semi-retired from the factory scene to take our safety precautions seriously, especially when it comes to ventilation and respirators. We might not be as young as that poor kid, but we can still learn from his experience
.
Anyway, I'm glad he made a full recovery after just 72 hours! It's a miracle
. But let's hope more people take this seriously and demand better working conditions for metalworkers everywhere
.
