South African indie studio Nyamakop's highly anticipated heist game, Relooted, has finally been given a release date. The title will make its way onto PC and Xbox consoles on February 10.
In Relooted, players take on the role of a ragtag crew from Johannesburg tasked with liberating real-life African artifacts from fictionalized Western museums. This 2.5d side-scrolling action platformer combines stealth and puzzle elements, requiring careful planning to execute each heist.
Game developer Cukia Kimani and designer Ben Myres have previously discussed the challenges of getting their game noticed as an indie dev in sub-Saharan Africa. Despite this, Nyamakop's previous title Semblance broke new ground by becoming the first South African IP to launch on a Nintendo console, specifically Switch, back in 2018.
In related news, it has been confirmed that Relooted will not be released on the Switch or its successor at this time. However, PC and Xbox consoles are expected to receive the game next month.

it's like, indie devs from south africa are killing the gaming scene right now! Cukia Kimani & Ben Myres are total rockstars 
and i love how they're pushing boundaries with their games, first one on switch back in 2018, and now relooted is gonna take it to the next level 
and yeah, not being released on switch is kinda a bummer, but pc & xbox consoles are still where it's at 
can't wait to get my hands on this game and experience that unique blend of action & stealth! 
. As an indie dev themselves struggles aren't something new to me, it's cool to see Nyamakop finally getting some recognition after Semblance did their thing back in 2018 
. But what's also interesting is how they're playing it safe with PC and Xbox consoles - releasing on those first instead of the Switch or its successor... I guess you could say that's a calculated risk, but hey, at least we get to play it soon enough

It's all about strategy and teamwork, kinda like how we have to navigate our own lives with multiple tasks and responsibilities. But here's the thing, it's not always easy - there are obstacles and setbacks along the way. Yet, if you keep at it and stay focused, you can achieve your goals just like Nyamakop did with Semblance. So, I'd say Relooted is a great reminder to stay committed to our own passions and never give up on what we want, even when faced with challenges 
They're tackling some heavy themes like cultural appropriation and colonialism in this game, which is so important to discuss. I mean, who doesn't love a good heist movie, but the fact that it's set in the real world, with African artifacts being stolen and sold, is a whole different story. Nyamakop's done an incredible job creating a game that's both entertaining and thought-provoking 
. i mean, who doesn't love running around as a bunch of thieves trying not to get caught? it's like every other game ever made. but hey, at least this one has some African flair, and i'm sure that'll make up for the lack of innovation in the gameplay mechanics.

. I'm also really impressed that Nyamakop was able to get their previous game Semblance noticed on the Switch, that's no easy feat! 
On the other hand, PC and Xbox fans are gonna love this 2.5D side-scroller - it's like a new policy initiative that's gonna bring more players into the fold! 
What I'm really hoping is that Nyamakop continues to make waves in the gaming industry and proves that indie devs from sub-Saharan Africa can compete with the big boys!

! I've been waiting for a new game from Nyamakop and it's great to see that Relooted is almost here 
PC and Xbox are cool, but can't they just make the game available on all platforms? It feels like Nyamakop's trying to cater too much to what's "in style" instead of just being true to themselves. 
And now that I think about it, Semblance was a great game too... why should Relooted be expected to live up to that hype without even being available on the same console?
