Heist game Relooted gets a release date

South African indie studio Nyamakop's highly anticipated heist game, Relooted, has finally been given a release date. The title will make its way onto PC and Xbox consoles on February 10.

In Relooted, players take on the role of a ragtag crew from Johannesburg tasked with liberating real-life African artifacts from fictionalized Western museums. This 2.5d side-scrolling action platformer combines stealth and puzzle elements, requiring careful planning to execute each heist.

Game developer Cukia Kimani and designer Ben Myres have previously discussed the challenges of getting their game noticed as an indie dev in sub-Saharan Africa. Despite this, Nyamakop's previous title Semblance broke new ground by becoming the first South African IP to launch on a Nintendo console, specifically Switch, back in 2018.

In related news, it has been confirmed that Relooted will not be released on the Switch or its successor at this time. However, PC and Xbox consoles are expected to receive the game next month.

Fans of Nyamakop's previous title can look forward to a similar blend of action, stealth, and puzzle-solving in Relooted, with a unique twist on the traditional heist genre.

omg I'm so hyped for this release date!!! ๐ŸŽ‰ it's like, indie devs from south africa are killing the gaming scene right now! Cukia Kimani & Ben Myres are total rockstars ๐Ÿ’ฅ and i love how they're pushing boundaries with their games, first one on switch back in 2018, and now relooted is gonna take it to the next level ๐Ÿš€ and yeah, not being released on switch is kinda a bummer, but pc & xbox consoles are still where it's at ๐Ÿคฉ can't wait to get my hands on this game and experience that unique blend of action & stealth! ๐ŸŽฎ

I gotta say, I'm kinda hyped for this new game Relooted ๐Ÿคฏ. As an indie dev themselves struggles aren't something new to me, it's cool to see Nyamakop finally getting some recognition after Semblance did their thing back in 2018 ๐Ÿ’ช. But what's also interesting is how they're playing it safe with PC and Xbox consoles - releasing on those first instead of the Switch or its successor... I guess you could say that's a calculated risk, but hey, at least we get to play it soon enough ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ! The idea of liberating artifacts from museums sounds like some wild and creative stuff, and I'm here for more heist games with a twist ๐Ÿ’ธ๐ŸŽฎ.

man i'm so hyped about Relooted ๐Ÿคฉ it sounds like such an awesome game. i love that its from south africa, it's not every day you see a game dev from sub-Saharan africa getting their title out there. and semblance was a great game too, so i'm expecting big things from Nyamakop this time around ๐Ÿ’ฅ they're tackling the heist genre in a really cool way, like using african artifacts as a way to comment on colonialism and stuff. fingers crossed it gets the recognition it deserves ๐Ÿคž

I'm so stoked about this new game release! I love how it combines stealth and puzzle elements - sounds like such a fun challenge. It's also super cool that the devs are from South Africa and that they're breaking ground in the gaming industry. The whole "liberating African artifacts" concept is really interesting too... it gives me a sense of something fresh and different, you know? Plus, I'm all about supporting indie devs, so I'll def be keeping an eye on this one. Release date can't come soon enough! ๐ŸŽฎ

so this game is finally out... i mean, it's been in development for ages lol. so it's gonna be 2d side-scrolling heist game where you play as some crew from johannesburg and they're like "we gotta steal these african artifacts from the west" sounds interesting, but what makes me think this is gonna be good? is it really different from other heist games? i mean, we got a similar formula from semblance in 2018 and that game was pretty cool. how do you know this one's not just more of the same? also why switch is out, huh? did they have some beef with nintendo or something?

I'm low-key suspicious about this release date being legit... like, think about it, February 10th is almost exactly halfway through the year ๐Ÿค”. That's just too convenient, you know? What if they're trying to get it out before something big happens in the gaming world or the industry as a whole? And why no Switch? Is that a strategic move to focus on PC and Xbox, or are they just avoiding some controversy or something? I'm not saying Nyamakop is hiding anything, but... ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Ugh, February 10 is literally going to be slammed with all the gamers who were just dying to play Relooted ๐Ÿคฏ. PC and Xbox players are so lucky they get the game next month, meanwhile Switch fans have to deal with a year-long wait... again ๐Ÿ’”. I mean, what even is the point of having a console if you can't play the latest indie releases on it? It's just another case of platform holder favoritism ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

๐Ÿคฉ I'm so hyped for Relooted! As an indie dev is all about taking risks, I love that Nyamakop's team was able to create something new and fresh even when they were faced with challenges in getting their game noticed. It's awesome to see them breaking ground in the gaming industry and paving the way for other devs from sub-Saharan Africa.

And let's be real, a 2.5D side-scrolling action platformer is just what we need after all the intense games lately! I'm loving the idea of liberating African artifacts from Western museums - it's like, totally relatable to me when I'm browsing through Instagram and see all those "exotic" items being sold without any context or credit to their origins.

I also appreciate that they're keeping things authentic by not releasing on Switch (no hard feelings there!) but still giving us PC and Xbox fans the chance to get our hands on it. February 10 can't come soon enough! ๐ŸŽฎ๐Ÿ’ฅ

omg I'm so hyped for Relooted!! ๐Ÿ˜† it sounds like such an awesome game! I mean, who doesn't love a good heist game? ๐Ÿค” and that 2.5d side-scrolling action platformer combo is giving me all the vibes of classic platformers but with a modern twist ๐Ÿ’ฅ Nyamakop's done it again, breaking new ground for indie devs in SA ๐Ÿ’ช I'm glad they didn't give up on getting their game noticed ๐Ÿ™ and now we get to experience another sick game from them! February 10 can't come soon enough โฐ PC and Xbox are the platforms I'll be playing on tho ๐Ÿค–

๐Ÿค” So I was thinking about this game Relooted and how it's like life itself - you gotta plan ahead, stay stealthy, and be patient. I mean, those African artifacts aren't gonna just fall into your hands, right? ๐Ÿ˜‚ It's all about strategy and teamwork, kinda like how we have to navigate our own lives with multiple tasks and responsibilities. But here's the thing, it's not always easy - there are obstacles and setbacks along the way. Yet, if you keep at it and stay focused, you can achieve your goals just like Nyamakop did with Semblance. So, I'd say Relooted is a great reminder to stay committed to our own passions and never give up on what we want, even when faced with challenges ๐ŸŽฎ๐Ÿ’ช

I'm super hyped for Relooted! It's amazing how indie devs from SA are making waves globally ๐ŸŒŠ They're tackling some heavy themes like cultural appropriation and colonialism in this game, which is so important to discuss. I mean, who doesn't love a good heist movie, but the fact that it's set in the real world, with African artifacts being stolen and sold, is a whole different story. Nyamakop's done an incredible job creating a game that's both entertaining and thought-provoking ๐ŸŽฎ It's refreshing to see devs taking risks and pushing boundaries like this. Can't wait to dive into Relooted on February 10!

so another "heist" game, how original ๐Ÿ™„. i mean, who doesn't love running around as a bunch of thieves trying not to get caught? it's like every other game ever made. but hey, at least this one has some African flair, and i'm sure that'll make up for the lack of innovation in the gameplay mechanics.

anyway, i guess it's cool that they're finally getting a release date, even if it is two months after we all assumed they'd be out by now ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ. pc and xbox consoles are gonna get the game, so if you're into that sorta thing, you'll be able to play it. not sure what the holdup is with the switch, but i'm sure it's just a minor setback... or maybe they just lost interest ๐Ÿ˜œ.

I'm stoked that Relooted is finally getting released ๐ŸŽ‰! It sounds like an absolute blast to play as you navigate through these museums, liberating all sorts of cool artifacts. The fact that it's got 2.5d side-scrolling action platformer with stealth and puzzle elements just screams "fun" to me ๐Ÿ˜„. I'm also really impressed that Nyamakop was able to get their previous game Semblance noticed on the Switch, that's no easy feat! ๐Ÿคฏ Now, I know some fans were looking forward to it coming out on the Switch, but PC and Xbox are where it's at right now, and honestly, who doesn't love playing games on a big screen? ๐Ÿ‘

So they're finally giving us a release date for Relooted ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ! I gotta say, I'm excited about this game, but I wonder if it's gonna be too similar to Semblance? I mean, can one studio really keep innovating in the same vein without getting stale? It's like a political party trying to run on the same platform for five elections - eventually, you've gotta shake things up! ๐Ÿ’ก On the other hand, PC and Xbox fans are gonna love this 2.5D side-scroller - it's like a new policy initiative that's gonna bring more players into the fold! ๐Ÿ“ˆ What I'm really hoping is that Nyamakop continues to make waves in the gaming industry and proves that indie devs from sub-Saharan Africa can compete with the big boys! ๐Ÿ’ช

omg u think relooted is gonna be sick? i mean its already looked so lit at e3 last yr ๐Ÿคฏ its about stealing artifacts from museums tho who even gets to decide whats culturaly significant lol and i hope the devs did some kinda research on that instead of just winging it. also why no switch release?? wasnt semblance a hit or wut? anyway, cant wait 2 see how relooted turns out

I'm hyped for this new game, Relooted ๐Ÿคฉ! It's so sick that an African indie studio is taking on the big players like they're just another museum. Nyamakop's been grinding since Semblance dropped back in 2018 and it's awesome to see them getting more recognition. The fact that they're doing something unique with the heist genre is really cool ๐Ÿค”. I'd love to see this game get some attention globally, especially since it's talking about cultural appropriation and representation ๐ŸŒŽ. A release on PC and Xbox next month sounds like a solid start, but I hope we'll see more platforms in the future ๐Ÿ’ป. Can't wait to play! ๐Ÿ‘

Finally some good news about South African devs ๐Ÿ™Œ! I've been waiting for a new game from Nyamakop and it's great to see that Relooted is almost here ๐Ÿ’ฅ. I love the idea of taking down fictionalized Western museums - sounds like a fresh spin on the traditional heist genre. And with PC and Xbox consoles getting it first, that's a win for gamers everywhere ๐ŸŽฎ. Hopefully, they can keep up the momentum from Semblance, which was such an amazing title ๐Ÿ‘. Fingers crossed that we'll get to see more indie devs from sub-Saharan Africa breaking into the global gaming scene ๐Ÿ’ช.

Just got the news about Relooted... finally! Been waiting for this one for ages ๐Ÿคฏ Can't wait to see what Nyamakop's done differently now that they've had more time to polish it up. The idea of taking down those museums is pretty cool - love the fact that it's set in Johannesburg and gives you a chance to explore your own culture... even if it's through a fictional lens ๐Ÿ˜Š

Ugh ๐Ÿค”, I'm so over the lack of Switch release for Relooted... like, what even is that? A game made by a talented indie dev from SA is gonna get snubbed like that just 'cause it's not considered "mainstream" enough? ๐Ÿ˜’ PC and Xbox are cool, but can't they just make the game available on all platforms? It feels like Nyamakop's trying to cater too much to what's "in style" instead of just being true to themselves. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ And now that I think about it, Semblance was a great game too... why should Relooted be expected to live up to that hype without even being available on the same console? ๐Ÿ˜’
