Illinois files complaint against Gino & Marty's over unpaid wages

A Complaint Filed Against Gino & Marty's for Unpaid Wages in Chicago

The Illinois Department of Labor has taken the restaurant industry to task, filing a complaint against Gino & Marty's, citing over $20,000 in unpaid wages owed to former employees. The shutdown of the Fulton Market eatery last summer was attributed in part to financial woes.

Details of the complaint reveal that between December 2023 and August 2025, at least nine employees were shortchanged on tips or gratuities, while others were paid below minimum wage. According to state labor agency reports, these employees collectively owe more than $20,000 for unpaid wages.

The Illinois Department of Labor is also seeking additional damages under state law, according to Director Jane Flanagan, who emphasized the importance of adhering to state regulations on worker pay. "Illinois law is clear: workers must be paid fully, fairly and on time," she stated, underscoring the need for restaurants and management companies to prioritize their employees' compensation.

🚨 another restaurant bites the dust 😩 Gino & Marty's just got slammed with a $20k+ bill from the Illinois Dept of Labor and it's all because they were straight up shortchanging their employees on tips πŸ€‘ can't believe some places still think they're above the law πŸ‘Ž makes you wanna shake your fist at 'em πŸ’ͺ guess that means more money for the state, but bad vibes all around πŸ˜”

ugh this makes me so mad 🀯 like whats going on with these restaurants? they can't even pay their staff properly? $20k is a pretty small amount of money, but it's still 9 people who got screwed over πŸ˜• and you know what's even more annoying is that it's not just the employees themselves who get hurt, it's also the customers who have to deal with subpar service because no one wants to work for low pay 🀝

I feel so bad for those workers! I mean, 20k+ in unpaid wages? That's crazy talk πŸ€‘πŸ€― They're literally struggling just to make ends meet, and on top of that, they gotta deal with some restaurants just not paying up. It's like, come on, guys! You gotta respect the law and pay your employees a fair wage for their hard work πŸ’Έ

I'm all about supporting our local businesses, but this is just ridiculous πŸ™„. If someone can't manage to pay their employees, maybe they shouldn't be running a restaurant in the first place? It's not rocket science, right? The peacemaker says: let's hope these workers get the justice they deserve and that this doesn't happen to others 🀞

Ugh, another restaurant getting busted for not paying its staff properly 🀯! I mean, I get it, business can be tough, but that's no excuse for not following the law πŸ’Έ. 20k in unpaid wages is just crazy, and I hope those former employees get their money back ASAP πŸ’°. It's like, they're the ones who are working hard to make that restaurant run smoothly, you know? So, it's not fair that they don't get paid fairly πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. And, I'm sure, this complaint will just make a lot of people think twice about eating at places like Gino & Marty's before trying them out πŸ€”.

I had the craziest dream last night about a giant pizza that came to life and started dancing in my kitchen πŸ•πŸ˜‚. I swear it was so realistic, I could smell the cheese and sauce. Anyway, back to Gino & Marty's - 20k is a lot of money, but I feel bad for those employees who got shortchanged. You know what's even crazier? How some restaurants make you sign away your gratuities on a piece of paper πŸ“πŸ’Έ. Like, what if the restaurant goes under and you're left with nothing? Shouldn't that be the employee's responsibility to keep track of their own tips? Just thinking about it makes me want to go get a slice... or three πŸ•πŸ‘Œ

Can't believe these big corporations think they can just screw over their own employees and not get caught... or at least, that's what it feels like πŸ€‘ Gino & Marty's had the audacity to shut down last summer and now the state is all up in arms about unpaid wages? It just highlights how vulnerable the gig economy workers are. They're already getting paid peanuts and then they find out they didn't even get their tips?! How's that fair? The whole system needs a serious overhaul, if you ask me πŸ€”

Ugh, can't believe this πŸ™„ Gino & Marty's getting roasted by the Illinois Department of Labor... like, I get it, financial struggles are real, but 20k in unpaid wages is just crazy talk πŸ’Έ This isn't just about the money, though - it's about respect for your employees and treating them fairly. If you can't afford to pay 'em on time, then maybe you shouldn't be running a restaurant πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ I mean, I've had some crappy jobs in my time, but at least I got paid, right? πŸ˜’

πŸ€• Just heard about Gino & Marty's getting slammed by the Illinois Department of Labor over unpaid wages 😬 It's totally unacceptable that 9 employees are shortchanged on tips or below minimum wage πŸ€‘. You'd think a restaurant in Fulton Market would be doing okay financially, but I guess they got caught up in financial woes last year and didn't prioritize their staff πŸ’Έ. The director is right, Illinois law is clear: workers must get paid fully and fairly πŸ’ͺ. It's about time someone held these businesses accountable πŸ™Œ. Maybe this will spark change for all restaurants to treat their employees better πŸ΄πŸ’Ό

omg can't believe this 😱 i mean like i know businesses have to deal with financial struggles but $20k is a lot! 🀯 it's crazy that people are being taken advantage of just because they work in the service industry. should be mandatory for restaurants to keep track of employee tips πŸ“Š and pay them out correctly, you know? seems like a simple fix but apparently it's not that easy πŸ’Έ anyway, hope those employees get their wages sorted out soon πŸ‘

OMG, I'm like totally shocked 😱 that Gino & Marty's got slammed with this complaint. I mean, they had some major issues last year, but $20k in unpaid wages? That's just crazy talk πŸ€‘. I've been to their place a few times and the food was always on point, so I guess you can't judge a book by its cover... or in this case, a restaurant by its Yelp reviews πŸ˜‚.

I do think it's super important that the Illinois Department of Labor is looking out for these workers, though. Minimum wage laws are in place for a reason, and it's not cool when companies try to skirt around them. Like, I get that business can be tough, but there's gotta be a way to make it work without screwing over your employees πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ.

Anyway, I'm gonna have to keep an eye on this one and see how it all plays out πŸ’Έ

Ugh, poor former employees of Gino & Marty's 😩 I mean, who doesn't love a good tip? The idea that they're getting shortchanged is just frustrating. And $20k is a big chunk of change πŸ€‘. You'd think a restaurant in Fulton Market would be able to manage their finances better. It's not like it's a small operation or anything - they were doing alright last summer, and then BAM, shutdown. I'm all for the Illinois Department of Labor taking action, though πŸ‘. Prioritizing employee pay is key πŸ€‘. Can't expect people to show up to work if they're getting squeezed πŸ’Έ. Hope these employees get their money back ASAP πŸ’•

Man, this just makes me so frustrated 😩. I mean, how can a restaurant just not pay its employees? Like, what's going on behind the scenes that they're struggling financially? It feels like it's always something with these big businesses... and now we gotta deal with the consequences, right? πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ 20k is a pretty significant chunk of change, you feel me? I get it, businesses can be unpredictable, but still, there gotta be some accountability πŸ€‘. The workers are counting on those tips to make ends meet, and this is just... ugh πŸ’Έ.
