Incoming NT administrator insulted PM and claimed First Nations people 'main group' behind crime

Top End Residents Unsettled by Incoming Administrator's Blunt Statements

The Northern Territory's new administrator, David Connolly, has sparked significant controversy with comments he made in a 2024 speech. Connolly, who will take on the role representing King Charles III in the territory, was chosen by Country Liberal chief minister Lia Finocchiaro despite being known for his outspoken views.

In one instance, Connolly joked about domestic violence, labeling it as a problem caused by the Greens' agenda, which was met with widespread criticism. Another comment made during the same speech was that First Nations people are "the main group responsible" for crime in the Top End, stating they have been perpetuating crimes due to failed policy and a soft-on-crime attitude.

Critics argue that Connolly's views are far from neutral, which raises questions about his ability to effectively represent all Territorians as the administrator. The role is supposed to be nonpartisan, but concerns are mounting that Connolly's past statements may not align with those expectations.

In response, NT Labor leader Selena Uibo expressed concerns over Connolly's suitability for the position, stating that public comments attributed to him have raised serious questions about his ability to unite the community. Despite Finocchiaro defending her nomination, many are left wondering whether Connolly's appointment will bring the territory together or exacerbate existing tensions.

Connolly has yet to publicly comment on the emergence of his old social media posts or previous statements, leading some to question his level of transparency and accountability. As he prepares to take on the role of administrator next month, it remains to be seen whether Connolly's views will have a positive impact on the community or further divide it.

idk how they chose him as admin... his comments about domestic violence & First Nations ppl are super concerning πŸ˜•. like, domestic violence ain't no joke, it's a serious issue that needs proper support & understanding, not some politician using it for clicks πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. and saying First Nations ppl are the main group responsible for crime? that's just plain wrong πŸ’”. we need someone who's gonna bring people together, not drive them further apart 🌎. I'm keeping an eye on this one, definitely not looking forward to it πŸ˜’

πŸ€” I'm kinda split about this whole thing... on one hand, you gotta respect that everyone has their own opinions and perspectives. But at the same time, I feel like those comments Connolly made were way off base 🚫. I mean, domestic violence isn't something you can just blame on a particular party or group of people... it's a serious issue that affects so many lives πŸ’”.

And to say that First Nations people are responsible for crimes in the Top End is not only hurtful but also perpetuates systemic racism and misunderstandings πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. I think we should be working towards healing those wounds and finding ways to address the root causes of crime, rather than pointing fingers at specific groups.

It's gonna be interesting to see how Connolly navigates this situation and whether he can actually bring people together or not 🀞. On one hand, I want to believe that everyone deserves a second chance and that we can learn from our mistakes πŸ’‘. But on the other hand, it's hard not to feel like some of those comments were just plain insensitive 😐.

I'm really worried about this one πŸ€•... I mean, who jokes about domestic violence? It's just not funny at all. And coming from someone who's supposed to be neutral and represent everyone, it's super concerning. Can't they just stick to the facts and not make assumptions or comments that might offend people? πŸ˜’ I don't think this is the right guy for the job, you know? The Top End needs someone who's gonna bring people together, not drive them further apart. And what's up with these old social media posts he hasn't addressed yet? Transparency matters πŸ€₯

πŸ˜• I'm getting really worried about this whole situation with David Connolly. I mean, can't we just try to get along and move forward without all the drama? I've lived in the Top End my whole life and I know how beautiful it is, but these comments he made about First Nations people... it's just hurtful and damaging. πŸ€• And what really gets me is that he's gonna be representing King Charles III and he can't even get his own views straight. It's like, what if we're not all on the same page when it comes to important issues? I'm scared for my friends and family who are Indigenous or have been affected by these kinds of comments. 🀝

πŸ€” I'm totally confused about this whole situation πŸ™„... I mean, come on, Connolly just comes out and says some pretty shady stuff about First Nations people and crime 🚫... like, what's next? Are we gonna get comments from politicians saying that vegans are the cause of global warming πŸ₯—? It just seems so insensitive & out of touch. And I don't get why Finocchiaro still thinks he's a good choice for the job after all these comments πŸ˜’... I think it's time to take a step back and reevaluate who we're putting in these positions of power 🀝.

πŸ€” This guy David Connolly is giving me major red flag vibes 🚨! He's got some seriously outdated and tone-deaf opinions about domestic violence and First Nations people, which just aren't acceptable in today's society πŸ’―. Like, what was he thinking with that whole "Greens' agenda" joke? πŸ™„ And to say that First Nations people are responsible for most crimes in the Top End is just plain wrong and racist 🚫. I'm not surprised that Labor is speaking out against him and calling into question his ability to unite the community, tbh πŸ’¬. We need someone who's gonna listen and learn from everyone, not just spew hate speech and divisive nonsense πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. I don't think this appointment is going to end well for anyone involved πŸš«πŸ‘Ž

I'm like totally worried about this new admin dude coming in 🀯. I mean, what if his comments are real and he's gonna make things worse for our NT fam? 😟 David Connolly's gotta explain himself ASAP - we can't just sit back and let him spread hate talk about our Indigenous brothers and sisters. πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ As a fan of the NT, I want someone who's gonna bring people together not tear them apart! πŸ‘« Can we get someone more neutral for this role? πŸ€” Please let's keep it positive up here in the Top End πŸ’›

omg is this guy for real?? i mean idc about politics but come on ppl who make fun of domestic violence r total trash like his comment about greens being responsible for crime lol what is wrong with these people? first nations ppl are already marginalized enough dont need some clueless admin making it worse. i no finocchiaro thinks hes doing the right thing but i gotta side w/ labor on this one gotta ask if connollys even qualified 2 be in charge of somethin as important as this πŸ€―πŸ‘Ž

πŸ€” I'm totally shook by this... how can someone just say that? Like, what even is that kind of thing to joke about domestic violence? πŸ’” It's so not funny and it's got people really upset already. And now they're saying he thinks First Nations people are responsible for all the crime in the Top End? 😱 That's just not true and it's not fair. I don't think this guy is a good fit to represent King Charles III at all. πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ

I'm really worried about this situation... I mean, you've got someone coming in as admin and already making waves with their comments 🀯 It's like, we need someone who's gonna bring people together, not drive them apart. And to be honest, some of those comments just sound super hurtful πŸ˜” Like, domestic violence is never the victim's fault - it's always about the abuser and how we can support the survivors more. And regarding the Indigenous population... I get that policy failures are real issues, but we need to be talking about solutions, not perpetuating stereotypes πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ We just gotta hope that Connolly takes some time to reflect on what he's said and maybe learn from it πŸ’‘ Only time will tell if his views actually help bring the community together or make things worse πŸ˜•

idk how ppl can't see thru finocchiaro's move here... choosing connolly over some1 more neutral seems like a huge gamble πŸ€‘πŸ€” he's got some pretty out-there comments, and now he's in charge of representing the whole territory? that's just gonna cause more headaches than it's worth. what if he starts makin some stuff up or takin sides? it's not like he can just "get along" with every1 after bein so vocal about sensitive topics πŸ˜’

I'm really worried about this appointment, tbh πŸ€•πŸŒΏ I mean, Connolly's comments about domestic violence and crime rates just don't sit right with me... they seem super insensitive and uninformed 😐. And can we talk about how he blamed the Greens for creating problems? Like, that's not how it works, mate πŸ™„. We need someone who can genuinely listen to all perspectives and work towards unity, not just stick to a personal agenda πŸŒˆπŸ’–

I'm telling you, something fishy is going on here πŸ€”. This guy Connolly just waltzed in and starts making these super out-there comments about First Nations people and crime? It's like he's trying to stir up some drama πŸ’Έ. I mean, what's his real agenda here? Is this some kind of setup for the new admin to be a puppet or something? And don't even get me started on that joke about domestic violence being caused by the Greens' agenda... that's just plain tone-deaf πŸ™„. You gotta wonder if Finocchiaro knows what she's getting herself into with this nomination πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. I'm not saying Connolly is a bad guy or anything, but something doesn't add up πŸ“.

Ugh, this is so deep 🀯! Like, I'm all about keeping it real, but come on, making jokes about domestic violence and blaming First Nations people for crime in the Top End? That's just not okay, fam πŸ˜”. I feel like he's gonna be super divisive, like, everyone's already talking about how he's supposed to represent everyone as a neutral person, but his past comments are straight up problematic 🚫. I hope he knows that being a good admin is all about listening and understanding the community, not just spouting your own opinions πŸ’¬. Can't wait to see how this plays out next month πŸ‘€

πŸ€” I'm getting major vibes that this whole appointment thing is gonna be super rocky. Like, what even is the deal with the guy saying domestic violence is caused by the Greens' agenda? That's just cold and insensitive. And come on, blaming First Nations people for all the crimes? It's not like it's a new problem or anything... like, we've been trying to address this stuff for ages already πŸ™„

And don't even get me started on the fact that he hasn't publicly addressed these old statements yet. Like, if you're gonna represent us as the admin, shouldn't you at least be honest about your views? It just feels like he's dodging accountability... which is kinda a major red flag in my book 🚨
