Jean-Philippe Mateta: Crystal Palace striker may undergo surgery on knee issue, head coach Oliver Glasner confirms

Crystal Palace Striker Mateta Faces Uncertainty Over Knee Injury

Jean-Philippe Mateta's transfer ambitions have hit a snag as he ponders his options regarding a knee injury. The France forward, who had been in talks with AC Milan for £26m, has now revealed that surgery is on the table to address the issue.

According to coach Oliver Glasner, Mateta will make an informed decision next week on whether or not to undergo the procedure. A team of four doctors – including one from each country where Mateta has played in the past – will be consulted over the coming days to provide guidance.

"We've been managing his knee since the start of the season and have taken steps to ensure he doesn't exacerbate it," Glasner explained. "We're now waiting for another doctor's opinion who worked with Jean-Philippe when he was at Mainz. We'll see how this develops, but our priority is his welfare."

Mateta's situation has been compared to that of Dwight McNeil, whose proposed transfer to Palace collapsed due to a similar medical issue.

While Glasner acknowledged the risks associated with surgery, including the possibility of being out for several months, he urged patience and reassurance. "He's under contract here, and we have rights and duties," he said. "If he doesn't undergo surgery and his knee is okay, he'll start training with us and be integrated into the club like everyone else."

Glasner expressed confidence in Mateta's ability to bounce back from disappointment. "Dealing with disappointment takes a few days, but I've had a good talk with him and I'm pretty sure everything will be fine."

Wow 😱 this is some crazy news for Crystal Palace... like what even happened to their striker? 🤯 they gotta fix this knee injury ASAP or he's done for the season. 💔 interesting that they're getting a 4th doctor in, hope it helps figure out what's going on with him! 👀

just hope jean-phillipe mateta gets the help he needs 🤞... knee injuries can be super frustrating for players & coaches alike 😬. AC Milan was really keen on getting him, so it's a shame that this uncertainty comes at a bad time for the guy ⚽️. i'm sure oliverglasner is right to prioritize mateta's welfare though - gotta take care of those guys 🤕... can't wait to see how things develop next week 💔👀

🤕 So they're saying Jean-Philippe Mateta might need surgery for his knee injury... like, what's the point of even having a contract if you can't play? 🙄 AC Milan were willing to shell out £26m for him, but now that's all up in the air. The coach is trying to reassure everyone that they'll do everything they can to make sure Mateta's okay, but it seems like this whole thing is just a mess... 😩

man this knee injury thing is just gonna affect his transfer chances, you feel? like AC Milan were already willing to shell out 26 mil and now he's gotta risk it all with surgery... 💸🤕 what if the doc says no go and he misses the whole season? that'd be a real shame for him

Omg, I feel for this guy! 😩 A £26m transfer deal just got derailed by a knee injury? That's so frustrating. You'd think that the money would be enough to get top-notch medical attention, but I guess sometimes it's not enough 🤑. Anyway, I'm glad the coach is keeping Mateta's welfare as his top priority 👍. It's good to see them taking a cautious approach and getting multiple opinions from different doctors. Fingers crossed that surgery can fix the problem and Mateta can get back to scoring goals for Palace 💪!

Man... Mateta's injury situation is super worrying 🤕. Surgery is always a risk, you know? Like, there's always that chance it could mess up his knee even more or leave him with some permanent damage. And now he's got all these doctors to consult and weigh in on what to do... I feel like it's gonna be tough for him to make a decision either way 💔.

I get why the coaches are being cautious, though. They gotta prioritize his health, obviously. It's not just about the transfer rumors or the money involved – it's about Mateta's well-being and future with the club 🤝. Hopefully, he'll make an informed choice that works out for everyone involved... but honestly, I'm rooting for him to get through this without any major setbacks 💪!

ugh this is so frustrating 🤯 i mean, cant they just get him fixed already? he was literally on the verge of joining ac milan for like a ton of money now it's all being put on hold due to this knee injury. what if this sets a bad precedent for other players at the club? mateta seems like a talented player and it would be a shame to see him waste potential because of a medical issue 💔

the uncertainty surrounding mateta's knee injury is quite worrying 😬, especially considering his transfer ambitions were already being discussed with ac milan 🤔. while it's understandable that the coaching staff wants to prioritize his welfare, the fact remains that this has happened before with another player (dwight mcneil) and their situation didn't exactly have a positive outcome ⏰. still, glasner seems optimistic and i suppose patience is indeed warranted 💡, but one can't help but wonder what might happen if mateta doesn't get surgery and his knee issues persist 🤷‍♂️

omg this is so frustrating for fans 🤕, Mateta has been one of the best players in crystal palace and now he's facing uncertainty over his knee injury. i feel bad for him too 💔, he was in talks with ac milan for £26m and now it seems like that deal might be cancelled.

i think coach oliverglasner is being pretty reasonable though 👍, they're taking a team of doctors to get more opinions and make an informed decision about surgery. i mean, we don't want mateta to rush into something that could make his injury worse 🤦‍♂️

it's not just mateta's career that's at stake here, it's the fans' expectations too 😅. we were all so excited for him to come in and score some goals and help palace push for europe. now it's like everything is up in the air 🌪️.

i hope he gets it sorted out soon and can get back on the pitch 💨, we need our star players back ASAP! ⏰

mate hes got this 🤞 he was always a bit of an unknown quantity for me but glasner seems like the real deal 👍 plus palace has got some decent backup strikers so its not like they're gonna get ripped apart if mateta goes down ill trust him to get back on track tho

just read this news about mateta 🤕, i feel bad for the guy he was doing so well and then this knee injury hits him, it's like the universe is not on his side rn 🙏. i got nothing but love for glasner tho, he seems like a top coach, really cares about his players' welfare... i mean, can't say the same for some other coaches in the league 😒. anyway, fingers crossed mateta gets better and makes a speedy recovery 💪, doesn't wanna see him stuck on the sidelines for months 🏃‍♂️. AC milan is definitely not happy about this though 🤑

🤕😬 Crystal Palace is dealing with another injury drama 🏃‍♂️💔! Mateta's knee issue is super worrying 💉🚑. Can't believe surgery is on the table 📝😬. Hopefully, he'll get better soon 🙏 and be back on the pitch ⚽️.

Glasner seems really chill about it 😎 but I'm sure fans are getting anxious 😬. Who else is with me on keeping fingers crossed 🤞 for a speedy recovery? 💖 The team's season can't take any more setbacks 🚧😩.

Just remember, Mateta's health matters most 🤝💪. Wishing him all the best 🙏 and hoping he'll bounce back from disappointment 💥 like Dwight McNeil did 🎉. Let's keep our fingers crossed that Palace will get back on track soon ⚡🔁!

🤕 i think palace is gonna have to get creative with their squad setup if they wanna make a decent run at the europa league... having someone like mateta out for months would be a huge blow, especially since dwight mcneill's transfer saga kinda set them back 🤦‍♂️. but on the bright side, they've got some decent young talent coming through the ranks, so maybe it's time to give em more playing time and see how they develop 🚀. gotta be patient with mateta tho, surgery can be a crapshoot and you never know what kinda recovery he'll need 🤕...

🤔 So, what do you think about Crystal Palace's striker Mateta having to deal with this knee injury? 🤕 Should he get surgery or risk playing through the pain? 🏃‍♂️ I mean, £26m is a pretty big sum of money... 💸 Do you think AC Milan are right to wait for his decision, or should they be more pushy about signing him? 🤝

I mean, can't say I mind when players prioritize their health over transfer rumors 🤔. At least he's getting some expert opinions to help him make a decision. AC Milan were willing to pay £26m for him after all... but if surgery is the way forward, at least we know the club has his best interests at heart 💪. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out and what Mateta decides to do next ⏰.

OMG you guys 🤯 Mateta is literally going through some major uncertainty over his knee injury 💔! Did u no he's been in talks for £26m with AC Milan?! Now he's gotta decide between surgery & taking the risk of further injury 😬. I'm low-key worried about him, but at the same time I trust coach Glasner to make the best call 🙏. He's right, though - we gotta prioritize Mateta's health & well-being! 💖 The stats are pretty eye-opening, btw: did u know that knee injuries account for 35% of all sports-related injuries?! 📊 Anyway, wish Mateta a speedy recovery & let's hope he gets back on the pitch ASAP 🏈⚽️.

omg imagine being on the sidelines watching ur team mate struggle with a serious injury 🤕 it's so tough for them & their family too 💔 meanwhile u gotta weigh in the pros & cons of surgery, like months out or even longer 🤯 and then there's the financial aspect, £26m is no joke 💸 anyway, gotta send positive vibes to Jean-Philippe Mateta 🌟 hoping he recovers smoothly & gets back on track soon ⏰

Knees are like life, they can give us a hard time sometimes 🤕. But the thing is, we gotta be brave enough to face our problems head-on 💪. Mateta's knee injury might seem scary right now, but think of it as an opportunity to find a new perspective and approach life with more caution 💡. And yeah, surgery can be a tough pill to swallow, but sometimes it's the best option 🤝. The key is to stay positive and focus on getting better, not dwelling on what could've been 😔. And I love how Coach Glasner is keeping things real, talking about the risks but also emphasizing Mateta's worth as a player 💼. It's all about finding that balance between taking care of ourselves and chasing our dreams 🌟.

Ugh, I feel bad for this guy 🤕! Knee injuries are so frustrating, especially when you're trying to make a big move like a transfer. It's crazy how quickly things can go from being on the cusp of greatness to facing surgery and uncertainty 😬. I hope he gets it sorted out ASAP and doesn't have to deal with any more setbacks. AC Milan is gonna have to wait, I guess 🤷‍♂️. Anyone else think Mateta's situation is similar to Dwight McNeil's? That dude went through a tough time last season too...
