Joachim Trier’s ‘Sentimental Value’ Triumphs at European Film Awards

Joachim Trier's 'Sentimental Value' Wins Big at European Film Awards

Norwegian director Joachim Trier has made a triumphant return to the European Film Awards with his latest film, "Sentimental Value", taking home the top prize for best film. The critically acclaimed drama also swept up awards for best director, screenwriter, actor, and original score.

Trier was visibly emotional as he accepted the award for best director, praising the power of cinema to unite people and create empathy in a world filled with darkness. "I think we're at a core moment when we all have to take into account that the other is not our enemy, and that art can help us, at best, create empathy in the darkness," he said.

The film's lead actress, Renate Reinsve, also took home the award for best European actress. In her acceptance speech, she thanked her sisters, who cared for her as a child, saying "This is a movie about a father and daughter relationship, and two sisters, and I want to say to my two sisters, Helen and Cecilia, that I am the older sister but you were the ones taking care of me when we were growing up, and thank you so much, I wouldn’t have been anywhere without you."

The European Film Awards ceremony also saw a number of other notable winners. The best documentary prize went to Igor Bezinović's "Fiume O Morte!", while Natalie Portman was among the producers of the animated feature film award winner, "Arco". Laura Carreira won the Discovery Award for her first full-length feature film, "On Falling".

The ceremony also featured a number of special guests, including Norwegian acting legend Liv Ullmann, who received the European Lifetime Achievement Award. In her speech, she made a pointed comment about the Nobel Prize, saying "I'm Norwegian... We gave a Nobel Prize to somebody who deserved it, and suddenly that Nobel Prize is going to someone else ... It is so strange."

Other notable winners included Greta Scarano's "Siblings", which won the European Young Audience Award, and Maren Ade's credits in Berlin's Komplizen Film, whose credits include "Sentimental Value".

trier is a genius 🤩 and sentimental value is like the most emotional movie ive ever seen lolol. i was literally crying during the ceremony 😭🎥 its amazing to see norway win big again after that amazing film festival in oslo last year. reinsve is so talented too, she totally deserved that european actress award 💖 and its awesome to see her give props to her sisters. also loved liv ullmann's speech about the nobel prize, very relatable 🙃, who hasn't felt like someone else got what was rightfully theirs when their own did?

omg I'm so happy for Joachim Trier he really deserves it 🎉 his film is literally so good I've seen it twice already and still think about it all the time...it's like a big ol' hug in movie form 😊 anyway, it's awesome to see more female leads winning awards, like Renate Reinsve - she was amazing in that role 💖 I also loved Liv Ullmann's speech about the Nobel Prize 🤔 it's so true what she said...I mean, who else can say they're all about giving deserving people the recognition they deserve? 🙌

OMG, Joachim Trier is a genius!!! 🤯 I mean, his film is literally breaking hearts and minds at the same time. The way he explores complex themes like family, trauma, and human connection is just so raw and honest. And to see Renate Reinsve shine in her role as the lead actress is just incredible 😍.

I'm also loving how the European Film Awards are giving more recognition to up-and-coming talent like Laura Carreira with her Discovery Award. It's about time we saw more of these hidden gems on the big screen! 💫 And can we talk about Liv Ullmann's speech? 🙌 She's literally a legend and I love how she called out the Nobel Prize snub. It's all about calling it like it is, you know? 👏

aww what a moment for Joachim Trier 🤩 his film 'Sentimental Value' is honestly giving me all the feels, and I'm not even crying yet 🎥. with 8 awards under its belt, it's clear this movie has struck a chord with audiences and critics alike. did you guys notice how emotional Trier was when he won best director? 🤯 it's like he's been carrying around that award on his shoulders for the entire ceremony 😂. anyway, let's talk numbers: 'Sentimental Value' is now the 4th most awarded film at the European Film Awards since 2010 📊. and have you seen the stats on Renate Reinsve's acceptance speech? she thanked her two sisters, who cared for her as a child, and it's literally giving me all the feels 😭. fun fact: the average age of the nominees was 47 years old 👵🏻.

Omg I'm freaking out over Trier's win 🎉👏 he was so emotional on stage it's giving me all the feels 😭. The way he spoke about art bringing people together and creating empathy is just so true 🙌. And can we talk about Renate Reinsve's speech? 🤩 she thanked her sisters for taking care of her when she needed them most and I am LIVING for it 💕. The European Film Awards are always a highlight of the year, but this one was especially epic 🎊. The diversity in wins is also giving me life 🌈 from "Sentimental Value" to "Arco", they're pushing boundaries and I am HERE FOR IT 🔥

OMG, I'm like totally stoked for Joachim Trier!!! 🤩 He's such a talented director and it's amazing to see him win these awards. I've seen Sentimental Value and it's so beautifully shot and the acting is top notch! Renate Reinsve is literally breathtaking on screen. And that acceptance speech of hers gave me all the feels 😭🎬 I'm also loving the diversity of winners this year, from Laura Carreira's debut film to Liv Ullmann's Lifetime Achievement Award - it's like we're finally recognizing the importance of representation in film 🌈💖

I was just thinking about how awesome it is to have filmmakers like Joachim Trier using their platform to talk about empathy and uniting people 🤝. His speech at the European Film Awards made me feel all warm fuzzy inside ❤️. And can we talk about Renate Reinsve's acceptance speech for a sec? She's just so humble and grateful, it's like she's still a kid who got lucky 😊. I also loved that Liv Ullmann was there, she's such an icon in the industry. It's always great to see talented people getting recognition and using their power to make a positive impact 💖.

omg u guys i just saw that Joachim Trier won the big prize at the European Film Awards with his new movie 'Sentimental Value' 🎥👏 he was literally crying when he accepted the award as best director 💔 and it's so beautiful to see him talk about how art can bring people together in a world that can be really dark 🌧️ i'm also loving Renate Reinsve's speech, she gave me all the feels ❤️ especially when she thanked her sisters for taking care of her growing up 😊 liv ullmann was also amazing at the ceremony, giving a super thoughtful speech and making a point about the nobel prize 🤔 anyway, congrats to joachim trier and everyone who won! 👏

I'm totally stoked that Joachim Trier won Best Director 🎉 but at the same time, I think he's being kinda too sentimental about it 😔 I mean, the film is amazing and all, but can't we just acknowledge that awards are a bit... arbitrary? 🤷‍♀️ Like, what even does "best director" really mean? Is it just subjective opinion? And don't get me wrong, Renate Reinsve's speech was super sweet and all, but I'm not sure if she had to mention her sisters like that... seems a bit weird 🙅‍♀️

But on the other hand, I think it's awesome that Liv Ullmann got the European Lifetime Achievement Award 💫 She's definitely an icon in the industry! And I love how she called out the Nobel Prize situation - it's so refreshing to see someone speak truth to power without being too diplomatic 🙏. Laura Carreira's Discovery Award win is also super exciting, and "On Falling" sounds like such a great film... but what if it didn't actually get made? Was that just some fancy marketing stunt? 🤔

omg i'm so happy for joachim trier!!! 😍 he's such an amazing director and this film is like so emotional 🤯 i love how the actress renate reinsve thanked her sisters in her speech that was so sweet ❤️ and congrats to liv ullmann on winning the lifetime achievement award she's like a legend 💫 can't wait to watch more of her films. the awards ceremony seemed really special too, it's always great to see people come together for art 🎥

so what's up with this award? like seriously, what makes joachim trier's film so special? is it just another feel good movie about love and relationships? i mean don't get me wrong, the guy's a genius or whatever, but let's be real. the nobel prize comment by liv ullmann had me thinking... maybe this whole thing was staged for her lifetime achievement award. you know, to distract us from something bigger? like what if she's trying to hint at some deep conspiracy about the nobel prize committee? idk, just a thought. 🤔

aww man 👏 Joachim Trier is such a genius 🤯 he always knows how to craft these emotional stories that leave you feeling all the feels 😭, and this year's European Film Awards ceremony was no exception 💥 I mean, who can resist a good sentimental value 💕? but what really got me was when Renate Reinsve spoke about her sisters taking care of her as a child - it's like, such a beautiful reminder that family is everything ❤️. and can we talk about the diversity of winners this year? 🌎 from "Fiume O Morte!" to "Arco", there were so many amazing stories being told 📚. anyway, I'm just gonna say it: European Film Awards forever 💖
