Jon Filby: Sussex chairman quits in wake of points deductions

I'm really worried about the state of cricket clubs in England . It's one thing for a team to struggle financially but when you're talking sanctions and docking points it gets serious . I mean, I get that the ECB needs to keep everyone level but can't they see how this is affecting the teams? Sussex is going through so much right now and now they've lost their chairman . It's like, what's next? Will they be able to compete with other teams in the championship? The fanbase must be feeling really frustrated . I just hope the ECB can help them sort out their finances soon or it could have serious consequences for the sport

OMG, I just saw this news ... so Sussex cricket team is like totally struggling financially and their chairman had to quit . Like, how did it come to this? The ECB is all like "we gotta help them" but really they're gonna have to make some big changes for the club to survive . I mean, I love cricket, but I don't really get why the ECB can't just give Sussex a bigger budget or something ... it's not like they're asking for a lot! The thing is, I hope they figure out a way to save the team 'cause it's such a shame when sports teams struggle .

just heard about jon filby quitting as sussex chairman... poor guy can't catch a break club's in deep financial trouble and now he gets benched ECB sanctions are basically guaranteeing sussex will tank this season how many more years can they go without turning a profit? it's not like they're the only ones struggling, but their financial situation is getting pretty dire

This is so messed up... I mean, can't these guys just get their act together? The ECB's sanctions are super harsh and it's basically like they're strangling the club. I feel bad for the fans who've been supporting them all these years. It's not just about the money, it's about the pride of the team too... I mean, what's going to happen to the players now? Are they gonna get paid less just because of the ECB's rules? And what about the fans? Are they gonna have to watch their favorite team struggle all season long? It's just not fair. Maybe some more former players need to step in and help out... like that open letter thingy... That's a good idea, maybe it'll get some attention from the ECB and they can work something out... fingers crossed!

I don’t usually comment but... I feel so bad for Jon Filby & the team Sussex cricket has always been my fave team growing up! The thought of them struggling like this is really disheartening. I mean, a player salary cap sounds like a good idea on paper, but it's gonna be tough to implement in practice. It's one thing to have rules in place, but another to actually make it work for the clubs . And with the points deductions... that's just a lot of pressure to deal with. I hope Martin Richards can help stabilize things until they figure out their financial issues

ugh what happened to sussex? they were so close to getting their act together after all those years but now this is just heartbreaking i mean filby gets the boot and now it's like they're back to square one the ecb sanctions are gonna hit them hard, no doubt about it they're already struggling and now a player salary cap? that's just a recipe for disaster what's next? will they be able to compete with the big boys in the county championship? only time'll tell but man i'm worried for sussex
