Light snow in NYC expected to usher in much more on Sunday

Light Snow Hits NYC Ahead of Larger Storm

A dusting of snow swept through New York City on Saturday afternoon, with some neighborhoods expecting to see up to an inch of accumulation before conditions clear later in the day. The light flurry, which fell mainly north and northwest of the city, served as a precursor to a larger winter storm that is expected to bring more significant snowfall.

According to National Weather Service Meteorologist Jay Engle, another system will arrive on Sunday afternoon into the evening, dropping up to 4 inches of snow across the five boroughs. The sudden drop in temperatures will make everything "rock solid frozen," making for hazardous travel conditions.

As a result, New York City's Winter Weather Emergency Plan has been activated, and a travel advisory will be in effect on Sunday. Residents are urged to plan ahead and avoid travel if possible.

The city is taking steps to prepare, with 700 salt spreaders operating constantly through Sunday to pre-treat roads and bridges. Plows will also be at the ready should neighborhoods see more than two inches of accumulation. Outreach teams have been deployed in all boroughs to assist homeless residents who may need shelter during the cold snap.

In addition, a Code Blue weather alert has been issued, effective from 4 pm Saturday through 8 am Sunday. Residents are encouraged to report anyone in need of assistance by calling 311.

When the storm passes, temperatures will plummet further, with some of the coldest air of the season expected to arrive on Monday and Tuesday.

🌨️ I feel for the people stuck in NYC right now 🤕. A dusting of snow doesn't seem like much compared to what's coming... 4 inches is a lot! 😬 But at the same time, it's kinda cool that they're taking steps to prepare, all 700 salt spreaders and outreach teams... it's not just about the snow, it's about keeping people safe 🤝. And I guess the Code Blue alert is a good thing too, people shouldn't have to struggle in this cold 😊. But what I really wonder is how the homeless folks are going to cope? They're already struggling, and then this cold snap hits... it's just not fair ⚠️.

omg i'm so ready for this snow!!! 🌨️💨 i mean seriously though it's not like we haven't seen a bunch of nor'easters already this year lol. but i guess its good that the city is prepping everything because safety first, right? 🙏 700 salt spreaders tho that's some serious prep work! and omg the homeless teams are deployed? that's so awesome! ❤️ we should all just take a moment to appreciate our amazing city workers who do this every year 🤝

🌨️💨 I'm thinking we're gonna see a major snow day in NYC soon 😅. The city's prepping for up to 4 inches, which is crazy! 💥 I'm picturing it like this:
```
The city's got 700 salt spreaders ready to go, which is awesome. 🙌 But seriously, people should plan ahead and avoid travel if possible. The temps are gonna drop, making everything super slippery. ❄️ And with the homeless teams deployed, I hope everyone stays safe and warm.
I'm thinking we might see some pretty intense winter weather by Tuesday too... ❄️☃️ It's gonna be a wild ride! 🎢
omg u guyz NYC is literally getting hit w/ snow rn!! i was thinking of goin out saturday but now i think i'll just stay home & binge-watch my fav shows instead lol. i feel bad for all the homeless ppl in the city tho, hope they r doin ok. 700 salt spreaders? that's a lotta ice melt! 🌨️😂 anyhooz, guess we gotta be careful out there on sunday b4 it gets really crazy. ❄️☃️
Snow in NYC... because you know, I've always wanted to experience what it's like to be a human popsicle 🥶🌨️. Seriously though, 4 inches of snow? That's just enough to make me stay inside, brew some hot chocolate, and binge-watch Netflix for the next three days. A whole week without having to leave my apartment sounds like a dream come true... said no one ever 😴. I mean, who needs that much snow when you can just take a scenic walk down memory lane? 📚
Ugh, snow is coming 🌨️😬! I'm not a fan of driving or walking in all that ice and snow... it's gonna be super slippery out there. Glad they're activating the Winter Weather Emergency Plan tho 🙏. 700 salt spreaders? That's like, so many! Hope they can keep up with all the roads... 🤞
I'M SO GLAD WE'RE GETTING SOME SNOW IN THE BIG APPLE!!! 🌨️💨 IT'S ALWAYS FUN TO SEE THE CITY COVERED IN A LAYER OF FROSTY WHITE STUFF! BUT SERIOUSLY, I HOPE EVERYONE PREPARES FOR THIS BIGGER STORM COMING OUR WAY. 4 INCHES IS A LOT OF SNOW AND I DON'T WANT ANYBODY TO BE STRANDED AT HOME OR ON THE ROAD. I'VE ALREADY STOCKED UP ON COFFEE AND PANCAKES, JUST IN CASE I GET TRAPPED INSIDE FOR A DAY 🍳😂 AND IT'S GOOD TO KNOW THAT THE CITY IS TAKING CARE OF ALL THE HOMELESS RESIDENTS WHO MIGHT BE IMPACTED BY THE COLD SNAP. LET'S KEEP OUR FINGERS CROSSED THAT EVERYTHING GOES SMOOTHLY ON SUNDAY!!!
omg I just wanna stay indoors on sunday 🤣, like who needs that much snow? but for real, its gonna be a pretty rough day with the temp drop and all. i was planning on heading out to brunch in Brooklyn but now ill probably just order food delivery instead lol. anyways, glad theyre taking precautions and preparing everything, cant imagine how messy things would get if they didnt 💪.
just got word that NYC is getting slammed with snow 🌨️ and I'm low-key excited for a good old fashioned winter wonderland vibe 😎. but for real though, 700 salt spreaders? that's a whole lotta work 💼. gotta respect the city's preparations, especially with those outreach teams making sure our homeless friends are taken care of ❤️. hope everyone stays safe and warm during this cold snap ❄️.
its crazy how these little snow dustings can turn into full blown storms 🌨️! i remember one time in january last year when a similar system hit nyc and it was like the whole city ground to a halt ❄️... anyway, gotta feel for all those homeless folks getting prepped ahead of time ❤️ 700 salt spreaders is a lot of people (and equipment) but hopefully gets the roads cleared up quickly ⏱️ dont wanna be stuck in nyc with ice and snow everywhere 😬
