Liverpool 4-1 Barnsley: Dominik Szoboszlai scores stunner as Reds beat League One side to set up Brighton tie

Liverpool overcame a couple of close scares to secure a convincing 4-1 victory over League One side Barnsley in the FA Cup third round on Monday. Dominik Szoboszlai, Jeremie Frimpong, and Florian Wirtz all found the net for the Reds, who will now face Brighton at Anfield in the fourth round.

The Tykes had a fairytale run to this point, with Davis Keillor-Dunn's header inside 28 seconds setting them on their way. However, it was Szoboszlai who opened the scoring for Liverpool just 10 minutes later with a stunning long-range shot that left goalkeeper Murphy Cooper with no chance.

Barnsley continued to battle in the second half, but Liverpool's quality eventually told. Frimpong doubled the Reds' lead before Adam Phillips bizarrely allowed Barnsley's only other goal of the night to come from his own error. The rebound fell at the feet of Phillips, who slotted it past Mamardashvili.

The Reds sealed their win with two late goals, first from Wirtz and then a second assist for Hugo Ekitike before he scored himself in the dying minutes.

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot was happy with his team's performance but acknowledged that they had been fortunate at times. He felt that Barnsley were a tough opponent and praised their spirit.

Barnsley manager Conor Hourihane, on the other hand, was left to rue his side's narrow escape from a potentially disastrous defeat. The Tykes' only goal came after Szoboszlai's error and he praised the efforts of his players despite ultimately coming up short.

The win has set Liverpool up for a tough run in fixtures over the next six weeks, with three Premier League matches and a Champions League tie against Marseille to come.

OMG 😱 what a match!!! I'm still in shock about how dominant Liverpool was, they could've easily scored like 7 goals easy lol πŸ˜‚. I mean Barnsley gave it their all but at the end of the day, they just couldn't compete with the Reds' quality. That Stefan Bajcetic boy is a gem, his passing range is insane 🀩! The way Szoboszlai scored that long-range shot was straight fire πŸ”₯, I've been saying he's gonna be a top player for ages now. And Frimpong's goals were just so cool 😎. Can't wait to see what the rest of the season holds for Liverpool 🀞

πŸ€” Liverpool's win was pretty convincing, but you can't deny Barnsley's spirit πŸ™Œ They had us on the back foot at times, especially after that header from Davis Keillor-Dunn. I'm not sure if Arne Slot's comment about being fortunate is entirely fair tho... 4-1 is a decent margin 😊 Still, it's all part of cup competitions, and I think Barnsley showed they're more than just a League One side 🀝 They'll definitely be looking to cause some upsets in the future πŸ‘€

LOL what's wrong with Barnsley tho? One minute they're riding high in FA Cup, next they get thrashed by 4 goals 🀣. Like, they gave it their all but just couldn't keep up with the big boys. At least they got some good exposure and a nice payday from this cup run, right? And honestly, Liverpool's performance wasn't that impressive considering how big the gap was between them and Barnsley. They looked kinda sloppy at times, especially after Szoboszlai scored πŸ€”. Anyway, not complaining about the win for the Reds, but it'll be interesting to see if they can maintain this level of form in the rest of their season πŸ’ͺ

I'm loving the comeback story of Barnsley so far 🀩! They definitely gave it their all out there. I think Liverpool was a bit fortunate at times, especially with that own goal by Phillips πŸ˜‚. Still, you can't deny the quality of the Reds and how they dominated in the end. Arne Slot's team talk must've been spot on πŸ’‘. I'm curious to see how they'll bounce back from this win, especially with their upcoming Premier League matches πŸ†. Brighton's gonna be a tough test at Anfield... πŸ€”

OMG I'm still trying to process how Barnsley came so close to pulling off this massive upset 🀯! 10 minutes into the game, Davis Keillor-Dunn's header is like "ok, let's do this" and then Szoboszlai just takes it to another level πŸ”₯ with that insane long-range shot. Liverpool had some close calls in the second half too, but they managed to seal the win 4-1 πŸ’ͺ. Arne Slot's team showed great quality, but Conor Hourihane can't be too disappointed - Barnsley played with so much heart and spirit πŸ’•. Now let's see how they'll bounce back from this cup exit πŸ€”

🀯 I mean, that was just crazy! Barnsley went from zero to hero and totally gave it their all, but unfortunately, they just didn't have enough firepower to take down Liverpool πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ. That one goal from Szoboszlai though was insane, like a rocket ship out of nowhere ⚑️. It's gotta be tough for the Barnsley lads to be so close and yet so far... but I've got to give 'em credit, they gave it everything they had πŸ’ͺ. And what a story to tell, right? They're back in League One after this FA Cup run πŸ“š.

😐 I think it's wild how some teams can just go from nowhere to having a fairytale run in tournaments like this, you know? Like Barnsley's season has been insane so far 🀯. But at the same time, Liverpool is clearly one of the top-tier teams right now and they didn't even break a sweat against Barnsley πŸ˜‚.

I mean, I get that it's good for the FA Cup to have some surprises, but sometimes you just can't help but feel like those underdog stories are a little scripted, you know? πŸ€”. Still, fair play to Barnsley for giving Liverpool a run for their money and to Conor Hourihane for staying positive despite the loss πŸ’•.

Now that Liverpool's through to the next round, they're gonna have to start thinking about the bigger picture - those Premier League matches and the Champions League tie are gonna be tough πŸ†. They'll need to stay focused if they wanna come out on top πŸš€.

man...Liverpool was SO lucky to get outta there with a 4-1 win πŸ™Œ! Barnsley had them on the ropes but just couldn't capitalize. I feel bad for Conor Hourihane, he's got some quality players at that club and it's frustrating when they don't get the results they deserve πŸ˜”. Liverpool's bench looked pretty weak tho...like where was JΓΌrgen Klopp? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

you know I was just watching this super funny video of a cat trying to "help" its owner cook dinner πŸ˜‚ it's like the cat thinks it's actually contributing to the meal, but really it's just knocking over utensils and getting in the way. anyway back to liverpool... i mean i'm glad they won and all, but can we talk about how amazing the new season of stratford upon avon is? 🀩 i know it sounds weird, but i'm absolutely loving the costumes and the drama and the romance... i've been binging episodes nonstop. has anyone else seen it? πŸ“Ί

Man... what a game! I mean, Barnsley was giving it their all, no doubt about that πŸ˜‚. But at the end of the day, you've got to give credit where credit is due – Liverpool just outplayed them, simple as that. That first goal from Szoboszlai, oh my... what a strike! πŸ’₯ And then Frimpong just sealed it for them, I was thinking 'this could get ugly' but not like that πŸ˜….

I do feel bad for Barnsley, though – they're a League One side and they went toe-to-toe with Liverpool. That's gotta be tough on the players. Hourihane did well to manage the game, but sometimes you just can't catch a break, right? πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

Liverpool's next few fixtures are gonna be tough, no question. They need to stay focused and keep their heads up – the league is looking fierce this season πŸ’ͺ.

omg u guyz i cant even lol liverpool is on fire πŸ”₯πŸ”΄πŸ˜‚ that barnsley team was giving it their all but you can't win 'em all right? arne slot said they were fortunate at times and that's true cuz szoboszlai's goal was like a rocket ship to the net πŸš€ dominik szoboszlai is a genius btw i'm loving liverpool's style of play, it's so fluid and beautiful πŸ’ƒπŸ½πŸ•ΊοΈ and wirtz's goals are just insane 🀯πŸ’₯ can't wait for the next match against brighton πŸŽ‰

🀣 Barnsley was like that one friend who's always down to earth, thinking they've got this FA Cup thing in the bag... only to get utterly humiliated by Liverpool πŸš€πŸ’₯. I mean, who tries to score an own goal? πŸ˜‚ Adam Phillips, that's who! πŸ™ƒ Still, gotta give credit where credit is due - those Tykes put up a decent fight and gave the Reds a scare. And fair play to Conor Hourihane for being all like "we were just unlucky" πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. Maybe they can try again next season... or get some better defenders πŸ‘.

OMG u guys!! πŸ˜πŸ˜‚ I'm literally freaking out!!! Liverpool just destroyed Barnsley 4-1 in the FA Cup!! Dominik Szoboszlai is a GENIUS 🀯 his long-range shot was insane!! And Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Adam Phillips all got on the scoresheet πŸŽ‰πŸ‘ I'm not even mad at Conor Hourihane for getting eliminated πŸ˜‚ he did great with what he had! Arne Slot is such a cool boss too πŸ‘Š he's always so positive and supportive of his team. And can we talk about how EPIC the Reds' squad looks right now? 🀩πŸ’ͺ I'm SO excited for their next few matches, especially that CL tie against Marseille 😍πŸ”₯ Let's go Reds!! πŸ’›

omg can't believe Barnsley even made it this far 🀯 they definitely gave it their all but I gotta say, Liverpool's squad is just too deep for them to handle. Szoboszlai's goal was straight fire πŸ”₯ and Frimpong's strike was so smooth. The thing that got me was how Barnsley just couldn't seem to contain the Reds' attacking threat even when it mattered most πŸ€”

anyway, on a more serious note, I think this win showcases Liverpool's strength and resilience as a team πŸ’ͺ but it also raises questions about their mental toughness in big games. They had some close calls, but Arne Slot's reaction suggests that they're still getting used to the intensity of these FA Cup matches 😬

Barnsley, on the other hand, has to be proud of their fairy-tale run πŸ§šβ€β™‚οΈ it may have ended in defeat, but they proved themselves as a team and can hold their heads high. Conor Hourihane's post-match comments were spot on - his players gave it everything, and that's all you can ask for πŸ’•

πŸ€” This is like, totally suspicious man... Barnsley's manager Conor Hourihane sounds way too chill about losing to Liverpool despite them being a huge gulf apart in quality. I mean, what does he know? Maybe he was told not to talk to the media beforehand πŸ€‘. And what's up with Adam Phillips letting that rebound fall at his feet? Like, it's an easy mistake to make but come on... was it intentional? 😏 Also, Liverpool's win has set them up for a tough run of games, but you can't help but think they're just gonna coast through and make it to the next round. There's gotta be something fishy going on here 🐟

Ugh, what's going on with the VAR system lately? I was watching this game live and I swear they missed like 3 clear penalties on Barnsley but somehow Liverpool gets away with everything 🀯😑. It's just not fair to the underdog teams. Can't we get a more consistent system in place already? πŸ™„πŸ’”
