New Jersey Democrats Face Tight Showdown as Primary Heats Up
A narrow margin of roughly 500 votes separated two Democratic candidates, Analilia Mejia and Tom Malinowski, from one another by late Thursday night, setting the stage for a contentious primary in New Jersey's special election to fill the seat vacated by Governor Mikie Sherrill.

this thing with politics and democracy always gets me thinking... is it possible that our system of governance, designed to represent the will of the people, actually creates a scenario where we're pitting one 'representative' against another, rather than choosing a unifying leader for the community? 
I mean, think about it - in this case, two folks are fighting for the same seat, but what does that really say about their connection to the people they're supposed to represent? are we getting what we need from our elected officials or just more of the same old game? 
. And can we talk about how crazy it is that voter turnout has gone up so much? Like, I remember the good old days when voting was just a thing you did because it was your civic duty... now it's like, a movement! 
But seriously, this New Jersey special election is gonna be intense. Fingers crossed whoever wins brings some of that Obama-era magic back to politics 
But at the same time, these candidates are pretty well-funded and well-known so I guess it's no wonder they're neck and neck. 
The fact that turnout went up by a lot this year is actually kinda cool though - it shows that people care about who gets to represent them in DC. 
Hope whoever wins the primary can bring some fresh ideas to the table 
. I think what's really interesting is how enthusiastic Democrats are showing up to vote. That surge in turnout is a clear sign that people are fired up about the future of their state and its politics. Both candidates seem like solid choices, but you gotta wonder if they're ready for the challenge ahead - they've got some big shoes to fill after Governor Sherrill's success
