FBI's "Top 10 Most Wanted" List Man Sought for 2016 North Carolina Murder Extradited from Mexico, Sources Say
Alejandro Rosales Castillo, a 27-year-old US citizen, was apprehended in Mexico on Friday and will be extradited to the United States to face charges in connection with the 2016 murder of Truc Quan "Sandy" Ly Le in North Carolina.
Le, 23, was reportedly Castillo's former girlfriend. Authorities discovered her vehicle at a bus station in Phoenix, Arizona, on August 15, 2016, and found her body on August 17, 2016, in a wooded area in Cabarrus County, North Carolina, with a gunshot wound to her head.
Castillo was added to the FBI's "Top 10 Most Wanted" list in 2017, following his involvement in Le's murder. His arrest marks the second time this year that an individual on the list has been apprehended by Mexican authorities.
In October 2017, another person involved in the case, Ahmia Feaster, turned himself into Mexican authorities after fleeing to Mexico earlier that year. The recent arrests have led to a surge in extraditions from Mexico, with officials stating that it was "no accident" due to the support given by law enforcement.
The latest development comes as President Trump has threatened action against Mexican drug cartels by US forces, sparking speculation about potential military interventions in other nations. A recent US military raid on Venezuela, which deposed then-president Nicolรกs Maduro, has further fueled concerns about Mr. Trump's intentions.
With this latest arrest, the FBI has now brought in five individuals from the "Top 10 Most Wanted" list in the past year, with officials expressing satisfaction at the success of their efforts. The extradition process is set to proceed, bringing long-awaited justice for Le's family.
